Well, it's increasingly unlikely that we'll see March hobby kits due to administrative bollocksing of the application, which is immensely frustrating. At least April will have some good EAs, though it'll be tough drawing people to the shop without a City Championship to advertise.
We still have backup plans in mind. We've opened about 2-3 boxes of MTU thus far, and all the point cards we've gotten will be given out as prizes during our HL in March, and I'll see about packs of MTU as prize support on top of that.
As to giving out cards, I'm in full agreement. I taught a new player how to play, let him tool around with X-Men and Spider-Friends decks I've constructed to teach people the game, and finally let him go crazy through my 4ish boxes of commons, uncommons, and untradeable rares. Of course, there was a bit of cost (he bought me some Chinese food from a local play, totaled $4.80), but in exchange he's gotten quite a lot of Doom stuff, including a playset of the 3 drop Doom. Giving out cards for free or as close to as possible is one of the absolute best ways to get people into the game, and letting them go through boxes of cards can help them get accustomed to older sets and the playstyles of certain teams.
This here, what I'm doing, is what needs to be done if the game is to survive. Everyone complaining about not having a store to play at, well, now is the time to find the store and make the group. Raid the Heroclix events, Friday Night Magic, hell even Yu-Gi-Oh! for players. Meet new people, and let them knock the hell out of you in this wonderful game.
I've done all of they above and it has happend I have more players that play VS than yu-gi-oh now and magic.

Never do that. All ways teach them how to play the game, use combos and teach them how things interact with each other. Never LOSE to a noob.

Yes, you'll have to stay away from tier one for a while to build a group, but you'll soon discover that low-level play is its own reward.
I have about 7 tier one decks (golden) 6 (Silver) and 2 (modern) The thing with this game is that you have to get players to Play it. I've been playing card games since I was 12. (Yes Magic and LoFR)I've play every game you can Imagine. I've been playing at the same shop now for Ooo 6 years. So I know a lot of Players from all kinds of games. So I've got about 9-12 players coming every Sunday to play. Just last year I had just ME playing VS and getting the word that this game rules.I figure If I can get One person a month to pick up the game I'm happy.

I don't think golden is good for Hobby. Just because it has some Reallly Broken decks. Silver YES, Modern yes Sealed yes.

just to inform you I have done a lot for VS. http://www.vsrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45675 this was another thread about this same question about how they got people to play. This was my awnser to that question.
OK I've been playing VS Since the beging. I traded All my YU-GI-OH except for one deck got about $500.00 dollars in store credit got 4 boxs of each dc and marvel origins Ever since then I've been byeing a case of every set that comes out.
There were about 4 of us that started to play then they went there own way they moved away . I kept in touch they told me that VS was huge out west and south . While I was here with NO ONE to play with it stinks .
So to promote play at my local hobby store ( HARRISONS--@ LIBERTY TREE MALL --DANVERS, MA ) I put a sign up for a tournament. I put up my own money ok 1st place 100.00 dollars ,2nd place 50.00 dollars CASH . I had about 20 people saying ''o ya I'll be there '' . 4 people showed up ok YA I wasn't to happy .
Next week I see all the people and I asked where they were. They all said '' We didn't think the prize would be that high ! '' some said '' I didn't have the money to buy any cards '' So I told them ya well It was Cash prizes and I told the others that they could have borrowed one of the 19 other decks I had .
So I had all these extra common and uncommon cards sitting there so I brought them into the store and told people HERE make decks . Now My store has some of the best card playing minds Any where !
This one kid Soul (Sorry man I don't know how to spell it ) anyway He mad a SICK common uncommon deck Whoped My Squadtron deck TT deck HV deck (sick deck got to put it up same time ) Any way You see what I mean.

Aceswolf... If I could, I'd be out there too. Curse you, lack of car.
Anyways, Your Move Games will also be getting their HL Kits in, and we are starting to build up a player base. Once the kit comes in, we will start doing weekly stuff on Wensdays.
Wergoheb Ya I know. But you guys hVAVE TO START COMEING ON SUNDAYS.
We gave away packs 5 buck sign in 1st got a case ofMTU and 2-3 got 8 packs a piece of LoSH. I'm suppling tournament pay out. till we get owers.
Man, aces. Spellcheck. Please. It's like you're taking a pointed spork to the English language, and mine eyes do not appreciate it.
Anyway, my HL looks to be packing about 8 players for the League, which is a great number for draft and tourneys.
However, once we get our April kits, my worry is about a lot of new people showing up. 10-man drafts aren't very great from what I've heard. Anyone have any suggestions?
How does UDE let the store know if they have been approved/denied? Email, phone, snail mail? A LGS owner said he mailed his application in on about April 24th/25th. I figure he should hear back this week, just not sure how.
