Perhaps THE most difficult fiend to run, DO NOT ATTEMPT to run this Fiend unless your skills with a Fiend deck is in the stratosphere!!!
Unless you're going to REALLY Concentrate on using Baou, he REALLY shouldn't be in your deck.
He can be EXTREMELY powerful at times but unless you have an insurmountableamount of skill with the Fiend deck, stick with something else.
Are you really sure Guardian Baou is that difficult and absolutely must have a deck of his own to work? I can see Dark Jeroid, which is a staple in fiend decks being handy here, in addition to Bark, Flamberge and Axe of Despair, for getting him off the ground. There's quite a bit of luck involved if you're not running a deck concentrating on protecting him but I don't think he's completely impossible...
The reason I ask is because I got one as a gift today and I've always loved this card. I suppose I COULD start a new deck based on him but that would require me to buy more cards, which I do not want to do.
I'm a Flamberge fan, and had him it my Fiend deck for a while, but with the Dark Ruler, Twin Headed Worlf and a few others that can do effect negating, the 1 card discard is almost not worth it to run it in the deck. Unless you're running some serious burn for necrofood in your deck, your fiends are usually pretty valuable and not always smart to dump. What's worse is when you dump your extra fiend and have Baou Jammed or otherwise eliminated before it is even used. At least that is my 10 bits on the matter.
If you were running heavy Archfiends and wasn't going to use the Dark Ruler, the "Fiend Sword" might be worthwhile to add for additional fiendishness...
Cypherman- mmm, well, Baou has to be one of the trickier fiends to use.
- needs the Wicked Breaking Flamberge. There is the combo of Book of Taiyou to get him face up without the equip, but that is so narrowly structured compared to the uses that you can put the Sword to, that its not worth running unless you have a strict Guardian Decks. (hows that for a run on sentence?)
-needs to have a monster that can be killed by Baou, either alone or equipped with something like Axe of D. Ojama Tokens even have a higher defense than his attack.
-needs to be run in multiples to have any hope of being used. And then there is the fact that if Baou is destroyed, bounced, RFP, or flipped face down, that his effect resets and you start all over.
-Do I really need to mention what this card looks like as a topdeck? Only good there is as necrofear food, because he is surely about to hit the tombstones.
You've mentioned Jeroid, Flamberge, Axe, and Bark of the Dark Ruler. So, its pretty easy to see you know how to find the combos. there are others if you look into it, but then that requires more alterations.
In short, yes, you had better know your stuff and know it well to use Baou. Ive built 2 Baou decks so far and I can tell you....... they stunk. Im still looking for that right combination of cards for a deck. and I can tell you if I EVER get a winner out of a Baou deck, it will be my coup de gras.
As for Using Flamberge alone, well, Im all about it. there are many fiend decks I ve made that prefer having that than they do having Dark Ruler, believe it or not. It has let me feel more free in using 2 Necrofear and Mesfit, 1Necrofear and 2 Lesser, 3 Great Maju, 2 mesfit and 1 Dark Ruler, 1 Necrofear and 1 Dark Ruler, ..... anyways, I dont have to rely on Dark Ruler ha Des to be the source of my effect negation all the time.
And the discard is easily done by Fiends. Sure, there is timing needed, and a certain amount of prediction, but it is still "Wicked".
Whoa! I just got 2 boosters(SOD, 1st edition)
And i just got 2 holos, Ojama King and more importantly, hallowed life barrier.
Would Hallowed life barrier be worth anything in an archfiend deck?(ive decided to try to trade away most of my super/ultra rare cards) To perfect my Archfiend deck~
But would Hallowed life barrier be worth using in an archfiend deck?
Not really, I can't think of any combos with it. Waboku could be useful against Beserk Gorillas, but Hallowed Life Barrier? Archfiend's don't really need that type of defense I think.
Maybe I could make good trading use of them at 401 ...Meh
I guess i better trade quickly^_^ So i can get all the archfiends i want
whats the general price range of
Terrorking
Infernal Quen
Archfiend soldiers
and other archfiend cards i might need:)
I'd keep Hallowed Life Barrier, its good against any kind of damage, so if they try to ROD your TerrorKing and the roll fails, Hallowed will protect against that.
shouldnt i just let them ROD my king? ~ Im not sure on arch fiend tactics yet, ive yet to duel with my complete deck(Which i intend to complete in the next 2 weeks)
Im sure ill be able to work it out, some time or another
I'm not an archfiend master myself, but TerrorKing would hit you for 2000 damage, or worse yet, Skull Archfiend of Lightning would get you for 2500 (provided the roll negation didn't work) which is not something I would want to have hit me, even if I could bring a lower monster out with Pandemonium. Now the DesRook Archfiend might be a nice candidate for it since the damage is not as bad as others, but in general damage to my lifepoints is bad is most cases, in my opinion 8^D
Hey, could someone give me the general layout of an archfiend?(Attack, post ban)
Because i want to know what i need before i go to the store like a madman and start trading^_^!!!!!!!!!
just skim briefly back through the pages of this thread, TF. I know it seems like a lot at first, but you only need to look for decklists. There are quite a few Archfiend decklists in here. that should be all you need to compare. Plus, I think that Prolink has given you a great basis for what cards you can be looking for.
As for Hallowed life, keep it in the side deck. Archfiends are well able to withstand Battle Damage, due to the high attacks of Terrorking and Shadowknight and Skull. They almost encourage their own destruction for the benefit of Roar, Pandemonium, Desrook, and many others. What they will fall prey to more, are the direct damage of Burn cards. Therefore, even though HLB may not be maindecked all the time, its a card you may want to sub in for those times when you cannot get through their stall cards in time to stop the burn.
NinjaDuelist and Waldo-
Well, I havent been able to find any Ectoplasmer cards yet, so I am using Mass Driver as a proxy replacement for the Malice doll deck idea. I have to admit, it is super FUN :D. It is just in the first stages of being a deck and has only won 1 out of 4 duels, at this stage, but I have been enjoying it so much, I am going to take apart my RFP/Fiend deck in order to build this. (Now if only I could find Ectoplasmers)
Ectoplasmer
Continuous Spell
Only once during each player’s End Phase, each player tributes 1 face-up monster on his/her side of the field and inflicts damage to the opponent’s Life Points equal to half of the original ATK of the Tributed Monster.
Mass Driver
Continuous Spell
Offer 1 monster on your side of the field as a Tribute to inflict 400 points of Direct Damage to your opponent's Life Points
Both cards treat the monster as a Tribute. the only difference I can see is the specific wording of Ecto, which says "tributes 1 face-up monster on his/her side of the field and inflicts damage
...while Driver says, "Offer 1 monster on your side of the field as a Tribute to inflict ..."
I would think that both cards are treated the same, but I will do some research to see if a difference is noted anywhere in JERP, Netrep, or elsewhere.
du-du-d-u-du-d-ud-d-u batman!!!!!! "To the Rules Forum, Robin!"
Woohoo! 40 Pages of Fiend Information! I'm so proud of all of you ^_^.
Anyway, I think Mass Driver works, but it would be safer to check it out in the rules forum. I am also having a hard time finding Ectos. The people that have it love it and won't trade it! How disappointing...
Yea, I tried the combo right when I got the Dolls and decided to double check and came up with
If "Malice Doll of Demise" is Tributed to activate the effect of "Mass Driver", then "Malice Doll of Demise's" effect does not activate because the Tribute is treated as a cost, not an effect
I don't run it anymore though. I've realized what Ecto is for though it is the ultimate in field control so far the only true monster combo is with Doll. While you get some damage done if you combo it with HLB and BBHTD it is truly deadly.
