Question 1> Do you like Powercreep?
Yes and no. Yes, because the game needed to creep signifigantly from it's original set to be more interesting (powers on the last click) and comic accurate (displaying the powers that need to be their . . . on the last click). Also, it's creeped a little too much. Try running any Secret Invasion figure through the point generator that's online. Compared to it's reasonably accurate calculations of sets from 05/06, you can see the SI set scaled up about 30-50% on some figures (That 50 point Spider-Man might not seem like a lot, but he really is in comparision).
Question 2> How does powercreep affect the amount you spend on new sets?
I found the power creep in SI to be very notable and while I didn't spend much money on SI, it's mostly because of the weak character selection the set had. I'm not a fan of skrulls, and haveing an X-Men every 2 years at this point is rediculous. So it was mostly character selection. Also, from what we've seen in AA so far, things do look like they creeped down a bit, but I'm more concerned with character selection (no green lanter? We better get a starter set next summer).
I think power creep will always bee in the game, and it will fluxuate. This is because the game will only ever have clix that are 11 clicks + a KO symbol deep. So a 239 point Robin could only ever take 10 clix before being KO'd. That alone should keep us balanced. And if the game ever movers to a 4x4 base standard or something, then I'm out.
Sez the guy who is wasting his own time commenting liberally in a thread written by a guy who he knew before he wasted his time reading this thread that he didn't like....and doesn't care for his opinions.
My threads to you are like donuts to Homer Simpson...you just can't resist can you?
For someone who has been in the game forever and loves to do theme teams it kinda sucks for them to see otherwise viable figs getting left behind
For newbies (like me) it's actually kinda nice as it evens out the playing field for me, if all figs were costed the same and there was never any power creep the dudes with the guys from way back who were complete beasts would be the champs forever.... like where do you go to get an Icons Superman or a KC Green Lantern for less than $50..... Fortunately I do have some of the kick butt new figs and can be somewhat competetive (except for lack of experience)
I think in the long run it's good for the business because it keeps people buying the new figs to keep up with the power levels and it keeps a game around that we all enjoy playing
and I'm hoping Superman prime will be a monster so I won't feel left behind with no chance of ever getting a Crisis Chase supes or the other figs I mentioned (or their peers) without parting with an Obscene amount of money for a "little inch high plastic dude"
So...for data gathering purposes:
Do YOU like powercreep?
Does it effect the amount of Heroclix you purchase?
Well, this assumes that Power Creep (things just getting better and better for the same cost) exists. Which it might very well. But I'm not convinced yet. Assuming that the "formula" for making units has been constant, then the only way Power Creep happens is that the designers get more efficient at making units that make more sense. Which is fine, as long as they are working in the confines of the existing system.
What isn't good, and probably more of a significant issue, is Special Powers. As they don't fit into the existing system. So indications are that Special Powers *do* result in Power Creep, as Special Powers seem to tend to be wildly undercosted.
Dude...are you a man or a lemming? If Wikids does something you don't like do you just follow the lemming in front of you off the cliff?
Personally if I see something that's I think might not be in the best intrest of heroclix, I do a little research and if it really is a problem try to make Wizkids/people aware that it is a problem in hopes that (if it is a problem), it gets fixed.
March on dude, and keep a steady eye on the buttocks ahead of you....
yeah. . .
I'M the sheep, because I can actually play the game and not only have fun, but win, and you're the hero of the day, because you're standing up to the big bad warmachine, and offering everyone a chance to play a better game by fixing the rules.
Yep, I'm just waiting my execution, and you're neo
You're nothing if not consistant.
As far as time goes, it takes a decidedly less amount of time to comment on threads made by a zealot that are on the front page (Hey I also reply to other threads too!) when I have down time at work (I have the easiest job ever) than to be the heroclix messiah and develop a new game system with my name in the title (god complex? lol)
As for the valuing his opinion thing, that wasn't a question, it was pretty much a demand. You obviously didn't get the point of his post, so rather than ask a follow up question, like an angry father dealing with a pertinent child, you demanded he answer your question
Basically here's the rub
You can hate this game all you want, and wanna be jesus and change it all you want: But it's just not that big of a deal, and aside from your cronies, no else cares as much as you do, so of course we're going to tease you about it. Think of it this way, we're not crucifying you, so you're getting off light compared to what you could be getting with that attitude.
I would just like to add that I think the recent dial of 'Batman' from the Arkham set is a perfect example of how to construct a dial, make an interesting character, and not be too 'power-creepy'.
The special power ('In contact with Bruce Wayne') gives the character some nice thematic powers, but dilutes them enough so that they don't make the character too powerful for it's points. The 'Outwit' portion of the SP is especially good, as it doesn't effect other SP's...making it less useful as time goes on (that is, as SP's become more previlant).

I agree almost entirely with you, I would just change one sentence.
Quote
as some Special Powers seem to tend to be wildly undercosted.
Some, like charge/flurry and hypersonic/stealth, seem to be undercosted, but in other cases, the special powers seem to be accurately- or even over-costed.
I like a slow powercreep, which is pretty much what we've gotten. Without it, the game would stagnate. Too much, and figures go out of style too quickly. The only stuff that's really unplayable due ot power creep is 4 years old, by my reckoning, so I'm good.
The source material for Heroclix are comic book companies with thousands of characters
Every Heroclix release has approximately 50 different characters (in both REVU and CURSR eras)
I can't say that I'm a big fan of power creep (if it is real or not). I understand from a "collectable game" POV why folks might argue for powercreep, but since the dial allows for so much variety anyway, I don't see the need to resort to power creep to keep longtime players interested.
Even following the accursed Tuttle strategy of driving up secondary market prices: why wouldn'tthe company want *older* figures to have as much secondary market value as newer figures?
