I do not know why anyone that says "I don't want to play against these figures" thinks that it matters to anyone any more than when I say that I don't want to play against Skrull Ms. Marvel or Nightcrawler.
For some reason those figures get a pass because... They are Marvel comics characters, as opposed to being heroes in some other companies comic or some other medium?
Master Chief is every bit as much a super-hero as Nick Fury.
Seriously, what the hell is the issue here? Maybe it will get more people into the game, and if it doesn't so what?
There are a few ways to reasonably see this as an issue.
1) Too much too fast.
For players who are simply HeroClix fans, this can get expensive. There is a lot of material coming in a relatively short time frame, and some players may be hard-pressed to buy into it all. You don't want those customers to get into a habit of sitting out a release, either. Once they've decided it's safe to sit out Street Fighter and Gears of War, will they later decide to sit out a Marvel set they were on the fence about?
2) Long waits between a fan's preferred categories.
This is actually the flip side of #1.
Right now NECA!WK appears to be releasing their alternate lines alongside the standard Marvel/DC schedule. If someone chooses to ignore Street Fighter or Gears or War or Lord of the Rings, then the product they would have otherwise purchased will continue to come out as expected.
However, if NECA!WK were to slow down the overall release schedule in order to satisfy players under #1, then they risk players who limit their purchases losing interest between releases.
3) Dilution of the property.
There is a concern that the additional properties will change the flavor of the game from what they currently enjoy. If they were already holding their nose for "Martial Artists" or "Soldiers" because they were still playing with comic characters, will they remain interested when their opponents start blending characters who are completely outside that bucket?
Note that I'm not saying they should tell their opponents what they should or shouldn't play. But since they can't do that, will they just lose interest in playing?
These are genuine risks NECA!WK faces when they expand their product line like this. Yes, the new lines offer them an opportunity to attract players to the game. However, there is a possibility of losing players as well.
I don't envy NECA!WK the decisions they have to make on this one. I'm wishing them the best in this.

QFT, rep to you.
Salu Digby as LeVIathan in clix!
“I used to be a heroclix player like you, then I took an arrow in the knee.”
Great for those that like the video game properties.
Will I buy it? Nope, but I don't even buy DC!
It's cool because maybe one day we'll see a property I do care...like...
Ratpack figs of Dean, Sammy and Frank
I would buy those (still woudn't mix them with Marvel), heck I might even buy some LotR (but only for LotR only games).
I'm all for having many universes and properties. Mixing them in the game, however takes the fun out of it for me. Not a big problem, though because there are more than enough people who think the same.
So YAY for the GoW lovers
I just seriously hope that spreading the resources DOES help the game more than it hurts it...

Wow! No wonder WizKids have been quiet - they must have been working 24/7 to line up all these releases!
I've never played Gears of War and if it was a full (60 fig) release I'd sit it out. But If I can find someone to split a case with then I'll pay £16 ($26?) to get 10 new figures.
I do worry about the number of releases coming out but at the end of the day each of these small releases is someone's dream set. (For me it was the Watchmen set - I'd have bought that even if I'd not heard of heroclix before)
It's also worth remembering that while I am in a position to save up for a case every three/four months more than half the players in my group are kids and they don't have that kind of cash (apart from Birthdays and Christmas)
However they are able to hit up there parents for a couple of pounds to buy a booster almost every shopping trip - So I can see the single boosters selling really well over time.
Phyl.
Spelling? Grammar? I laugh at your bourgeois affectations.
at least not until I buy Gears of War 1 and 2 clix. I don't want to join the story in the middle and then be lost.

I am not arguing the speed that they are choosing to shell things out. As a college student, I am the last person who has money to burn so I can't really keep up as is. (I get what I can though.)
What I am arguing is more the third point you made. I think that mentality is ridiculous on the players part. With each new set you run the risk of losing players due to "broken" pieces or whatever reason you could come up with. These are smaller sets that they seem to just be testing the waters with and by no means is replacing the comic series (aren't we getting a Captain America set soon?) So I don't think either of these sets will become dominant in any way, shape or form.
and I am sorry but I find the point about people losing interest in the game because of who their opponent chooses to play is absolutely juvenile. It is like me saying "I don't like DC, so I wanna avoid anyone playing JLA". Personally, I'd lose interest in playing with a person like that before I did the game itself.
I think the issue here is this is different and people don't know how it is going to result. It's a new idea and well, not everyone likes the concept of new, right? I think its better to wait until the sets drop before judgement is past that these sets are bad or not. Though believe me, I will be among one of the most disappointed if they are because I support this concept as much as I do.

Matter of perspective. Some people are and were fine with the game being a largely superhero-centric game, which it still is.
To assert that someone's play preferences are "juvenile" is an unnecessary attempt at reductionism. Or do you routinely purchase/support games in which you have little/no interest?
The point is that, for some people, dilution of the game experience with figures outside the theme directly AFFECTS their interest level.
