Picking my own Avengers team is one I do alot since I only tend to play them when I have to use Marvel. Granted I would include Cap and Iron Man in the team, but since I cant I would go with this.
HOT Thor
HOT War Machine
AV Hawkeye (He's Retired as soon as the CW version hits my hand)
AV Scarlet Witch
SI Dr. Strange
SI Ms Marvel
IC R-Black Panther
CA Quasar
CA Black Widow
WOS Spider-Man (Red/Blue costume)
With the other two members Steve & Tony its a nice round dozen Avengers. With another 4 members I carry with me in my box, its my core group of Avengers to choose from when building my team.
Ms. Marvel
Spider-Woman
Invisible Woman
Scarlet Witch
Black Cat
Emma Frost
Darkstar
Carol is the Leader and Powerhouse. Jessica and Felicia are Infiltration and Scrappers. Susan and Laynia are Support and Defense; with Laynia also providing team Transportation. Wanda is the Mystic, and Emma is the Psychic.
A well-rounded team, and plenty of double-duty available as Carol, Jessica, and Susan can Blast; and Emma can Tank.
Plenty of other options available (can be guest appearances), but these are my top 7 ladies (7 seems to be the most common # in here).
This is an intriguing force if we use the dials presently available to us. Initially it seems to lack brawn, but I notice an impressive defense in depth in the power sets (extensive stealth, double pc, quadruple barrier). Seems like you should be able to hold off big bruisers and limit the options of cannons and win by attrition. My curiosity is piqued by the girl power aspect of the team as well. I wonder if there if there is either a comparable force among the guys or one which would do especially well against it.
I was given rep for my screen name alone! Now I feel all warm inside

I particularly look forward to the new CW Carol, Jessica, and Wanda. This team shall happen. Sadly, Felicia will no longer be in Modern. *grumble*

A well-rounded team....
City of Heroes: @MsNightingale
SHS Online: Incredible Cosmic Shield
Hank Pym as Wasp (The Leader, from Chaos War)
Hawkeye (Chaos War works)
Hercules (hulk set)
Cho (hulk set)
Spider-Woman (whatever)
Tigra (We need a new one!)
Wasp (Jan, from Chaos War)
Hank and Jan would incap/penetrating one damage the bruiser while Herc smacks him around
Cho Is support
Tigra ties up any annoying secondary attacker
Hawkeye destroys the enemies support
Spider-Woman is either helping Tigra or Hawkeye.
Preparing to use the Deadpool set Black Cat in every team for months
The big 3. Frankly I'm more interested in Avengers books when these three are at one another's sides...or each other's throats. They have a great dynamic - loyal friends but each a very strong and independent man (or god) who occasionally butts heads with others as strong and determined
4) Spider-Man
5) Wolverine
These two will take criticism of fanboyism and well...why not? Flagship characters sell books, flagship characters are interesting to both readers and creators and these two in particular have an interesting dynamic. They are also great representatives of the "New Avengers" era that has done so much to revitalize the franchise.
6) Hawkeye
He's just a dude with a bow. But he is the consumate Avenger who isn't one of the big three. Good representative of the "shifting" era of Avengers.
7) Phoenix (Jean Grey)
The Avengers have always had an interesting history of strong women being overshadowed by stronger men. Even Thor wouldn't overshadow Phoenix's power, though. With all the tension about the phoenix force in Xmen vs. Avengers and the history with Wolverine, I think Jean would be an amazing addition to the Avengers, and she's one of the few AAA level marvel characters who has never been an Avenger.
Hulk, Namor, and Nova would be my dark horse avengers who show up for some storylines but don't really fit the main team due to Nova's cosmic concerns and Hulk's and Namor's lack of being team players.
For me the team dynamics works best when the team is at six. I would love to see a Squadron Supremesque line up:
Wonder Man
Ms (now Captain) Marvel
Black Panther
Monica Rambeau
Iron Man
Namor
It's a more international team as well as being more media friendly. Now if I could just a get Kristoff Von Doom to join with a new armor. He could replace Iron Man.
First Daredevil, Spidey, Cap shot, Bucky as Cap, Steve's back, Odin's back, Bucky's dead, Tony off the wagon!? That's it. Marvel is dead to me.

Think of it this way... if you can only play the team in Golden Age, then you have more options to work with. Personally I prefer the original REV Black Cat over the WoS one and while there aren't many versions of Spider-woman they all bring something different to the team.

There's something about this team. Perhaps it's the timeliness; the possibility that if AvX concludes with the Avengers taking custody of Hope it could actually happen. I would certainly pick up the title and give it a read... which is saying a lot since everyone on that roster has had their stories told and retold to death and back. Individually I find all but Rogers dull.

So what's stopping you? It's a dream team after all and there are plenty of figures you could use to represent Kristoff at one power level or another. Especially with a Latverian this roster has the feel of a Marvel JLI. In Heroclix terms it also has some impressive potential with a lot of bruisers, high speed blasters and multiple support powers.
