Also, the next Abrams movie will redeem itself in my eyes if they cast Robin Williams as Mudd.
This is MADNESS!!!
This is BLASPHEMY!!!
Harcourt Fenton Mudd can only be played by Nick Frost in the new Trek. Please hand in your Starfleet membership card on your way out, Mal.

Actually, if they THOUGHT they were hot chicks, they were hot chicks. They just needed the drug to think they were, IIRC.

EDIT: Okay, look, Into Darkness was cute. It was a very nice thrill ride. But the more I think about it, the more I dislike that movie. It's basically the reason everyone trashes the Bay Transformer movies. So much fan service in lieu of actual plot or substance. For instance, if instead of Star Trek II rehash they did something involving Gary Mitchell and Elizabeth Lerner, I'd be completely down with a retelling of that classic episode. But, we got 10 minutes of plot and 2 hours of fanservice and a complete ignoring of any sort of 'real' physics that has been, until now, a hallmark of Star Trek. To be fair, the first movie did it too (how did Spock get such a good view of Vulcan from the COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SYSTEM HE WAS IN?), but the second one was far more egregious in the violations.
How can a movie be both Fan Service, and also made for Popular consumption, and be considered bad? I love Wrath of Khan, my wife never saw it. But we were both there opening weekend for Into Darkness and loved the hell out of it.

Hmph. Sounds like Mal is feeling grumpy today and needs a hug from an Orion slave girl.

I will take that in lieu of a cheesesteak.

It was... I dunno. I'm trying to think of a good analogy, but I think it's the ultimate "fun as long as I don't think about it" movie. Because whenever I think about it, that's when it makes me mad. Which is normally not the case for Star Trek... at least the even-numbered movies (except for Nemesis).
It seems like Into Darkness was just trying to hit the Lowest Common Denominator instead of trying to be a good movie in its own right.

I loved "Into Darkness" -

and I'll even risk wrath by saying Cumberbatch is ideal for today's Kahn (even the accent works if you think of the British influence on India, right? )
- but they did fail me on one key point: they worked so hard to give everyone a moment to shine they forgot maybe the most important character of all (and my favourite next to Bones): The Enterprise, herself. I wanted a glorious "Rise of the Phoenix" moment where the Enterprise was more than just a transportation device. She's as important as the crew in the overall lore and deserves a "This is why the Enterprise rules." scene.
"Nobody important? That's amazing. You know, in 900 years of traveling time and space I've never met someone who wasn't important."

I felt the opposite, I don't think they gave much of anyone outside of Kirk and Spock a chance to shine....Chekov was basically an extra all he did was change shirts and wear goggles, Uhura was too busy being a jilted lover, Bones was busy ogling Robocop's daughter (I will give him props for saving Kirk I guess), Scotty was MIA for most of the movie then snuck onto an inexplicably unguarded super ship. Sulu did have a nice little moment when he was acting captain. But as a whole I didn't feel they utilized the cast well.
Thanks, wasn't feeling Will Ferrell in those last few episodes. Felt like he didn't belong there.
He doesn't stick around, hes just a guest star. I actually liked the season of the office after he leaves better then his going away season persoanlly.
There was a brief period of time where I didn't mind Will Ferrell, but looking back on that time it was because he was in movies with a good ensemble cast. See: Anchorman, Old School, Blades of Glory (yes I liked that movie...shut your face) etc...I don't think I've ever liked a movie where he had to carry it.
