Looks, to be honest i am more interested in stats and the addition off all the cards.
And the frigging new rulez.
New game elements as cloaking devices depends more on the game mechanics that belong to it. What i saw was +2 to defense from ranged combat. So unless there is more that aint shocking.
Da Rulez will make me play or not. If the game mechanics are NOT fun to play anymore well other games enough.
But I warn you now, this will be the first bastardization of Battletech lore of many, many to follow.

Too late. IMHO, that dubious honor would go to the book "Far Country" by Peter L. Rice. Little talking, bird-like aliens running around with some DEST commandos and a merc lance with a LAM.

Ick, don't remind me. I try to pretend that Far Country never happened. Guess that's what I'll have to do with the Raptor... :p

So CBT fluff is sacrosanct except when you disagree with it, then it's not? Well one could argue that you're bastardising battletech by picking and choosing what you use. I’m not saying that’s wrong, but you can’t be holier than thou about the fluff when you aren’t following it yourself.
Hey fluff. Im the guy that almost killed Kava Graves with Kristoff Erbe.. :D
The whole invisable idea is kind of far fetched from what ive seen in the mechwarrior series.. i can accept ecm mechs being radar invisable, but..visually invisable is kind of ...out of place. I also understand that time goes on and people invent things, but what is weird is that If there has been cloaking tech. why is it old and not used till now?

And since the majority of you are taking it with a smile on your face, don't be surprised when WK introduces alien invaders, teleportation, photon torpedoes, and 8 story high "uber mechs" to the game.
Yea, verily, this Raptor 'tis the gateway drug, er, 'Mech, that will cause fire to rain down from the heavens and Justin Timberlake to become Emperor of the World.
Come on, get off your horse. Not only are the "majority" NOT "taking it with a smile" on their faces (witness the rabidness of the people on these forums), WizKids KNOWS that even this probably wasn't a good idea, but allowed for a temporary lapse of sanity and still did it.
There's no way they're going to be thinking "Ha ha, we got away with it! Now to REALLY screw up the Battletech universe!" Do you really think they just don't care? If that were the case, they'd be doing a lot more universe-breaking than just making a single clear-sculpted 'Mech that they KNEW they were going to get roasted over.

There are some things you just don't do to the continuity of a well established science fiction series. You don't write a Star Wars book and say that Han Solo is actually a woman. You don't do a Star Trek movie and say the Klingons are actually a peace loving society who are just a little grumpy sometimes. You don't do Lord of the Rings and say it was actually Pippin who carried the ring, not Frodo.
You don't do a remake of Battlestar Galactica and turn Starbuck into a woman... Oops.

By his own admission, Kevin took a concept that HE KNEW flew in the face of Battletech continuity and lore and made a figure just because "he thought it was cool." He basically said "F-U" to all the players who care about such things and WK went right along with it.
...knowing full well that they will never be allowed to get away with anything like this ever again.

Personally, I hope they do it again. Maybe not clear mechs, but something different.
News flash: CBT couldn't keep FASA afloat. Insisting the WizKids slavishly follow a known sinking ship is sort of counter-productive.
Original CBT was a fun game, but absolutely broke down when you paid any sort of attention to the tech (630 meter at long range anyone?). Yep, we have fusion engines, but we can't toss a missile over a kilometer! God knows, with that sort of realistic tech, changing it is some sort of abomination.

So, what's your point? There are a LOT of CBT purists who refuse
to acknowledge the existence of the Far Country novel.

I just want you to log that in memory and don't forget it.

Ok, but let's also not forget, that Sam carried the Ring, and it was old Anakin that was the ghost in the Endor Forest, but now it's young Anakin, and what was the Kitomer Accord again? OH yeah, a peace treaty between Klingons and the Federation.
Highdancer, I have to take issue with CBT being a "sinking ship" CBT stayed afloat despite FASA's best attempts to drown it. The game was supported by the players when the company did some pretty idiotic things.
The range limits are simple. They wanted to keep the scale of combat at something that approached tabletop size. If you took the "actual" firing distance possibility of either the Arrow or Long Tom systems into a battle game at the BT scale, the table would have to be 8' x 8'......
And remember, both of those were Mech mountable....

I'm not seeing FASA as a viable company anymore. I'm not seeing FanPro suddenly pushing out all sorts of 'pure' CBT that suddenly fixes whatever problems FASA did or did not put into it. Find me some sort of consensus on what FASA did to alienate people (hah!) and then show me why FanPro hasn't fixed that and made a stunning comeback.
Instead, I see a bunch of diehards, each with their own idea of what's 'real' CBT. It wasn't enough to support FASA and I guess it's enough to support FanPro, but that's not saying much and it could be Shadowrun there. ;)
Short story: the CBT community isn't the be all and end all. Offending them in exchange for broader appeal (and both MechAssault and MA 2 will likely have a much, much broader base than AoD will) sounds like a peachy business decision to me.
@ Highdancer: That was my biggest gripe about Classic Battle Tech. But that was about it. Now, we have the fusion engine, but if we move with it twice, we overheat it. Or if we aren't mech knee deep in a puddle of water when we fire our missle with the 630m long range, we shut down and our pilot melts. But we can turn invisible! Or, god forbid, those 5 Peasant Companies get behind our Assault Mech and fire all their futuristic M-16s with as good a range as some of the Mechs and knock a couple of clicks of damage off our bases. Or, watch out for those VTOLs. No, not aerospace fighters, helicopters.
Its not that Clan Battletech didn't have issues, but MWDA added more. Granted, they do try to fix issues that are brought up and that is appreciated, but alot of them could be fixed before hand by actually thinking about it.
@ jakal: regarding Far Country and LAMS: in CBT fiction, besides that book (1 of 30+) where do bird aliens and/ or LAMS play an important role or even make an appearance. LAMS are reffered to here and there as something that existed, but that is it. At least FASA LISTENED to the FANS AND PLAYERS outcries after that book came out. LAMS were to some extend what 4 Legged Mechs were in CBT, ideas that didn't really pan out. Since they were created at some point, some (as in very few) were around, but not used across the board. By that rationale, the Raptor is okay since it is basically a one of a kind thing, at the moment. I just see it as leading down the path of more and more one of a kind things this expansion being comonplace next expansion. And anyone here with business sense knows, if it is an idea they believe they can make money on, it will resurface regardless how it fits into the game world.
The diehards that resist change keep saying "it's impossible to make a 3-story-tall 'mech difficult to see with the naked eye". At least the technology they are attempting to add is being applied to a light class 'mech, and not anything bigger, as an attempt to be more feasable.
Again, it's not invisible. If WizKids meant to have the 'Mech invisible, they could have taken the route that the makers of the LotR Frodo "w/ring on" unique took - produced a base with the stats and name on it without a figure because he's invisible.
