As far as Morrison goes, the more I think about it and read these posts the more I realize how bad some of the stuff in New X-Men was. I started collecting the X-titles again when I read a couple articles in Wizard about all the crazy stuff that was going on in New X-Men. I got the first 2 TPBs of New and things looked good, though I do have to admit that Cassandra Nova was the 2nd biggest, flashiest plot device I've ever seen. (#1's name starts with "O" and rhymes with "Goneslaught". LOL.) After that, though, I got sucked into a state of Morrison hypnosis and just kinda went along for the ride. I'm among the people who liked Xorn, so you can imagine how pissed I was when it turned out HE was just a plot device too. Same with Kid Omega in the Riot arc. They started out with an interesting concept, then took it WAY to far and killed the kid, and the only thing it led up to was mini-Emma #5 hooking up with Magneto. Boo and yuck.
Now that the Planet X arc has ended, I've made a decision to hold out until the first few issues from the new writing team come out. If they're good, I'll continue to pour what meager cash I have into New. If not, I'll drop it and focus on Uncanny. Draco was bad, and Trial of Juggernaut had a LOT of potential that it didn't fulfill, though I'm glad they didn't stretch it out into a 6+ issue arc. As different and interesting as a superhero courtroom drama might be, I don't think I personally could've put up with it for that long. (Though The Tick DVD has a pretty cool farce of one.) Well, guess we'll just have to wait and see.
BTW, Shin, just to clarify on Ultimate Thor:
Ultimate Thor is pretty much a hippie. He claims to be the God of Thunder, but he's pretty much regarded as insane for thinking so. At least until he opens up a can of lighting-charged whoop-@$$ on Hulk. He's super-powered, but first and foremost he's an activist. He'll question every mission the team goes on up and down to be sure he doesn't think it's oppressive or otherwise unfair to anyone. That, and for some reason Mjolnir is now half-hammer, half-axe. Go fig. Crazy half-axed kids... ::Rimshot.::
I've officially pulled the plug on my reading/buying of the X-Men titles as of last month. Have Uncanny back to ~120, and I just don't see the same characters I care about. Frankly, the movies are more true to my perceptions of who they are, rather than the books recently.
I agree entirely about the earlier comments about Waid's revision of the FF - at the core, those are the same characters and Waid is showing different facets of them. He's not revamping them to be modern or hip - they've lasted as long as they have because they're iconic.
Here's the other thing...Mageneto kills people with his face? And SOMEONE tell me how he changed his scent so Wolverine wouldn't recognize him. There's a plothole you could drive a Leifeld though through.
Xorn is Magneto = Plot device pulle dout of the arse.
It's probably a mix of it taking awhile to realize that things have gone bad, seeing little glimpses of possiblities that could be good, being willing to realize that sometimes stories seem like #### until you've read the whole thing, and a good dose of sentimentality.
A lot of Morrison's writing had sparks of potential. It really did. If he didn't seem hell bent on trying to make it as 'out there' as possible and instead just put a dash of different here and there, it could have been really good.
I think for me, it was the Weapon Plus story line where I started going 'WTF??!!'. I was asking myself 'But what about Weapon X? That has been in history for awhile now. Well, I'll just see where he goes with it.' Alas, he didn't end up saving it at all.
Like I said, if the new writers can't turn it around, I am dumping Uncanny and New X-Men. I'll be happy with Wolverine, New Mutants, X-Treme and Exiles.

Magneto lifts up his helmet, and bang, what ever is in front of him gets atomized. Now his bloody helmet is off at the end of Xorn's first appearance, and no one was able to tell it was Maggy?
I'm right there with you, Shin. Though I had first I thought that maybe he was doing some plot twist where it wasn't really Magneto, but Xorn convinced he was Magneto. Alas, it was not to be.
Magneto posed as Xorn, a mutant who was born with a white star for a brain. They put a helmet on his head. When the visor was lifted, BANG, kentucky fried monkey.
When Xorn was revealed as Magneto the plot holes came rushing in. My biggest complaint is the issue where Xorn tries to save the big mutant/monster kid. In that issue (I don't remember the number) Xorn has a conversation with an old Chinese man who is from the same village he was! There was a line stating that the guy knew Xorn's Dad! So Magneto went back in time and familiarized himself with locals in a Chinese village to "complete the illusion"?
You can't ignore Wolverine not scenting Maggy from the get go. He gets to Asteroid M and he can tell the last time Magneto took a carp there. He stands shoulder to shoulder with Xorn and can't sniff him out.
Xorn (the real one anyway) was basically supposed to have a star for a head. Or at least inside his head. In his first appearance he removed his helmet (supposedly releasing the power of the star in his head) and pretty much atomized everything in that direction.
So how does that work with Magneto? If Xorn was Magneto then how did he pull that off? The same with Wolverine and Xorn's/Magneto's scent. Although I had heard that Xorn supposedly smelled of ozone because of the star in his head so that would have masked his scent from Wolverine. Of course now we know he didn't HAVE a star in his head. So how does THAT work?
And Xorn also apparently healed a bird so how did Magneto do that?
