I think prizes means that he would be able to win them, not buy them...
Because, you know, being able to buy the prizes online on ebay is a LOT better than being able to play for them.
Your right stu, how could he be so stupid. If those silly forgin countries want these prizes, they need to buy em off the internet. Thats what they get for not being AMERICAN!
USA! USA! USA!
Heh, I almost missed Stu's reply, what with me having him on my ignore list. Now I can feel bad about how I ruined the fun for all the US players. Except I won't. Because there is no way I am feeling bad for telling things like they are. If he can spend all his posts going on about how good UDE is treating his area and how UDE can do no wrong, then I can spend all my posts going on about UDE leaving me high and dry with no OP, enormous delays in product releases (if they are even released here, like Hellboy never was), and without even bothering to settle all of their accounts before deciding to ignore us.
Doc, thanks for sticking up for me. It's nice to know that at least some people can understand how royally shafted non-US players are right now. I tested for a PCQ, built my deck, paid the entrance fee, won the whole thing, and months later I have nothing to show for it but a single UDE reply to all my emails inquiring about my prize.
To add insult to injury, the UDE rep who replied to me told me to re-send my email to a bogus email address (I know it was bogus because it wasn't even an address, but a URL to a page that doesn't exist). I mean, the customer service rep could have at least put an '@' into the thing to make it seem real. UDE doesn't even care enough about me to make it seem like they put some effort into screwing me out of my prize!
Man I just found out neutral grounds and kings games both just had their RP events, and I didn't know since it wasn't up on their site. This is saddening...
Man, I bet this will get a better turn out now. I heard at least 3 people in my store suddenly take interest in the random punks tournament now that a EA Mobilize is involved.
I'll be one of the first to say this... but I think UDE overshot this one a bit.
Don't get me wrong... an EA Mobilize is nice... but I think that should have been reserved for a City Champ level event.
I've been promoting the RP format as a casual format where any player can build a deck because they don't need rares. But having an EA Mobilize as a prize may bring out the "sharks" and cause the tournament to be more competitive than originally intended. And the fact that they don't need to be sanctioned causes some "shenanigans concern" for me. I may be wrong... but we'll see.
Erick,
I took the Random Punks format that it was a City Championship. I actually thought it was just the next CC...Didn't realize it was suppose to be casual. There were no casual decks at the CC I attended everyone seemed to have brought their best ideas to the table. Of course over half of the playing field had to drive 2 hours or more to play so I am sure they didn't drive that far, I know I didn't, for casual play;).
Also, doesn't the Howard Playmat actually have City Championship written on it?
later,
Kj
EDITED: I just took a glance at the Playmat and it does NOT have CC written on it. My bad=P.
I'm guessing that your point is that this leaves little to look forward to for upcoming events. I agree, in as much as they'll have to try pretty hard to top it. Thankfully it does seem like they've been trying pretty hard lately.....and presumably it will continue....seems like this is sweeps month in the world of VS or something....
Although EA's of the newer sets would likely continue to draw crowds....that's at least one avenue they can take. Can you think of any others?

I don't think it's so much of an overshot ... as a 'too late'. The announced it after the start of the 'season', when many of the events had already been run and some people may have already decided not to go, etc.
It seems a little too close to the event itself to suddenly change it. Paraphrasing Dr. Strangelove: What's the point of having a very attractive prize if you don't tell anyone about it?
It always darkens my day to see your screename in one of these threads, since we all know what's coming.
You are nothing if not consistent, I will give you that. Maybe copy and paste that response to save yourself some typing time!
I have to say, and I'm not usualy one to horn in on this sort of thing but this was a totaly uncalled for flaming and simply, uncool.
Stu I repsect you for everything you do for the game. Your always singing the praises of the game and UDE and that's great, but one of the reasons you can do that is because UDE probably supports the game greatly over that side of the pond.
Now all your posts are positive about UDE IN YOUR AREA because of this, hell probably positive about UDE in all of the North Americas but that doesen't mean other people who enjoy the game as much as you do don't get hacked off when the support UDE promises them isn't there.
Calm down man, just because were attacking your favourite company don't give you no right to start flaming people, just be nice and civil. If it bugs you that much send a PM, don't try and openly belittle someone it just ain't right.
