Well, we certainly didnt sent up ventry to lose, and he was beaten solidly every game. When I say we didn't set him up to lose, I mean we used the same teams we have been practicing with for the past 4 months preparing for gencon (which is also why we dont want to post them). We also took turns playing him against each other; I played S/V 6 of the games, my buddy played him 5 times. This means that if one of us was lacking in skill that person would have also probably lost against S/V when not playing him, but that wasn't the case.
Either way, it doesn't really matter how many times we beat him, you just have to consider him as a team you are likely going to have to face in 300 modern, and you have to prepare your team to be able to beat him. You also have to do this while not shooting yourself in the foot and making your team weak against other teams. It's of course hard to find the one-size-fits-all team but...that's what ya gotta do for worlds I guess.
Considering we aren't posting our teams, I understand the skepticism. I will say, though, that I certainly don't need the ego boost of lying about beating a heroclick online, and I assure you all that our 11-0 record is legitimate. I'll be posting teams as soon as gencon is over and explaining exactly what happened. Oh, and whoever guessed Uatu and Leech is in the right ballpark but not quite on as far as my team goes.
I totally agree and believe you. The team my friends and I have been testing loses only when the player can't roll a five 3 times in a row. Unlikely but happens. The worse is rolling crit misses. It skews the numbers a little. Once or twice a game is sub-par but 4 is too much.

Back when I was testing, I would always ignore crit hits and crit misses. They skewed the results too much.
It's like Michael Jordan going to the YMCA to play basketball.
Welcome Charlie (Charles William Cook)! Born 7/14/2011!
Basically where my team stands vs ventry in 300 modern w IG is if I win map roll (50/50, no theme team) i win. If i lose the roll, i dont necessarily lose but its a harder battle, one that i pulled off the 2 games i had to play against him when he got map choice. And yea, absolutely, any figure can get a lucky break with very good or very bad rolls on someone's part, which is why we made sure to test it 11 times. 0-11 is not because of bad luck.
In the "silver age" nothing but figures 300 semi final round, which due to no gauntlet is more favorable to sentry (except for the fact that it re-allows kid zoom), svoid has 0 chance no matter what the map roll.

I don't like doing this, even as much as I hate the swing they can create in a game, because it diminishes the usefulness of prob and having multiple attackers, since both mean more chances to crit hit, and prob also means an extra chance at rerolling a crit miss (which turns the probability of crit missing when you have prob 1/36^2, which is less than 1/100). So it isn't exactly a wash to remove them both gameplay-wise. Then again I'm talking about preparing for tournaments and whatnot where you want to play the rules as you'll be playing them there.

After the 10thAn sets come out, what about this team?
Iron Man 225 (Marvel 10th Anniversary)
+Secret Avengers ATA
Agent Coulson 25
+Infinity Gauntlet
+Time Gem
+Reality Gem
Even 300, not exactly revolutionary, just thinking that the Secret Avengers on Iron Man is a big deal. Just seems like a very solid team, and something any team you put together will have to test.

I like this team, especially since you will still get the theme team bonus, but I would probably switch the gauntlet over to Iron Man. I understand the Gauntlet makes Coulson a solid secondary attacker on his first two clicks, but there are so many "under 100" point characters that can make decent attacks now it might be wasted points.
I think the point of putting the Gauntlet on Coulson over Iron Man is so you don't get shutdown by another Iron Man who isn't toting the glove. It's a team entirely based on beating a meta that's abusing the Gauntlet. Typically their main guy won't be able to hit Coulson or Iron Man, so then Iron Man just has to run around and punk the guys who CAN hit them.
It seems that now that we have this Iron Man he is going to be the goto figure for most teams. He is really powerful. However I feel like he does indeed need the full IG or else he can be shut down by outwit pretty fast. I was at Gen Con this year and was lucky enough to win the new Venom so one of the teams that I have been considering is
Venom w/Full IG
Mole Man
Scarlet Witch (50)
S.H.I.E.L.D ATA
It lets you attack almost any square on the map. However unless you could outwit PulseWave on Iron Man you get smoked. So I guess the real question is, is it better to have an IG on Iron Man or not to. If you do, other Iron Men shut you down, if not Outwit can.

Rock, Paper, Scissor Shoot
Secret Avengers ATA handles the Outwit problem pretty effectively.
Sharon Carter can as well. Hard to Outwit when you can't draw a line to him.

This is true. Unless you can outwit through stealth. But those characters are few and far between.
Iron Man is certainly the new "Pace Car". I am personally not a fan of the figure so I want to try and find Meta ways to beat him. And I am sure he will see as much play as Nightcrawler did.
SM Magog 172
GSX Leech 35
GG Astral Strange 13
+IG and Space Gem 15
GG Cosmo 52
What Gauntlet, Tony? Shut him off, then get Magog into position to smack his face clean off of his face.
If anything, you're just shutting off Gauntlet tentpole things. Other teams still have quite a good chance, just have to be smart.
This is a really good team. My friend and I played and tested this team for a while until we determined that Magog was better with the IG. Because of Iron Man it may now be better. Rep to you sir. Great team. What else can beat Iron Man?
Anything that doesn't rely on one big guy with a Gauntlet can beat Iron Man. Avila's team from World's could at least Incap him to death, and Witch is there to back you up with Psychic Blast. You also have multiple attackers who can hit Coulson (against the team I posted.)
Here's another one I've tested a few times... I think this could probably give Tony a few problems.
CW Morgan Le Fay 122
+Infinity Gauntlet 40
CA Captain America 83
+Avengers Heroic Age 2
CW Scarlet Witch 50
+Avengers Heroic Age 2
This team is just incredibly hard to hit. Cap can share his 18 with Le Fay, making them both have 20 defense from range. You have 2 Psychic Blasts, and you have 2 other attackers who can not only wreck Coulson, but also handle Tony to an extent. Against Iron Man, Le Fay just becomes flat out the best support piece, packing Prob when she has the gem, TK for Witch when that gem pops up, and a plethora of other great things. This one definitely feels good to me.
The modern age team I brought to gencon was Stranger w 25 pt IG (reality, time, soul), dinah soar, and leech. I did in fact face a ventry, and he was only able to make 1 attack on dinah soar, killing her, and 0 for the remainder of the game. Opening move tk dinah up 6, run leech 5 behind her, carry 9, drop leech w 6 square range for 6+9+6 = 21 square leech threat turn 1. The team did quite well in the tournament, and in fact did its job getting me into semis, I just had a tough, very even game against Metron Nightcrawler, and a blunder at the last second lost it for me. Took down a ventry, strange + witch + astral, and morgan le fey, hawkeye w partial IG, scarlet witch to qualify for the semis.
As for teams now? Ive been playing around with wasp w full gauntlet, 3x scarlet witch, donald blake = 300. The other I came up with today which I think will work quite well is Donald Blake, 50 pt Scarlet Witch, 100 pt Dark Phoenix, Wasp w Full IG. Between mind gem and phoenix's power they can be tking each other, blake or witch can carry wasp early game to position, phoenix can running shot pulse wave an opposing iron man since she doesnt have the IG. Wasp supports w running shot dbl shot incaps, outturning their gauntlet holder hopefully, while phoenix acts as a boss secondary hitter.
Oh and I feel I should note that it was ChopChop's buddy that beat me in semis lol. Very nice guy, very good game.
