The only sport I've ever seen that impressed me more than hockey is Australian Rules Football. That is, hands down, the coolest sport.

Absolutely! Cheese is cheese. Pull out a bag of shredded cheddar to top some chili, grab a handful for myself. A lifelong story.

That seems less funny, but also less rude than saying it directly to a failing student. That seems like an acceptable compromise.
Cheese is definitely a good snack.
There's definitely degrees to it. All fandoms have some level of ####### members, but some definitely have more than others. And in many cases, those #######s directly miss the point of the thing they're supposedly a fan of.

Star Wars fandom is one of the biggest ones noted for being toxic. Star Wars is fun. But the hardcores will pick apart seemingly every frame in each new movie and if it doesn't get 100% by some movie critic that a couple hundred people follow then it needs to be erased from canon.

Wrestling fandom is incredibly toxic on so many levels. I've been a wrestling fan for 24 years, I'll never stop loving it. But both the average and a majority of other hardcore wrestling fans can get bent.

Yeah, my love of star wars is almost equaled by my hatred of how awful some of the "fans" are.
