I still love the game, but its becoming tougher to enjoy. All the stuff that needs to be remembered needs to be remembered by both players. If I'm playing someone who's very new and trying to run "hotness" or an idiot who can't follow the rules, the game turns into a tutor session or an argument.
I love playing against other skilled players who know the game, because we all know the best games are the ones that go smoothly and quickly. When you're playing another skilled player, getting immersed in the game is huge fun. When you're playing a newer player who hasn't hit the power curve yet, its tough to enjoy if you're spending the match telling him why he can't do what he thinks he can. Playing one who doesn't want to learn the rules ('cause he likes his way) can be excruciating.
Entities, Resources, ATAs, and all that make the game a lot harder to follow.
Well WK doesn't care about any of that so we will just continue to have rulings to fix poorly written powers and don't waste your time asking them to reconsider because they will just hit you with the old "it works cuz we say so" line.
I don't think they are really overpowered, just really poorly distributed.
Well I've always been fine with rares and things really rare being strong but what I liked about clix was didn't matter what kind of team you had it was possible to win simply due to strategy and dice rolls and the pieces may have costed more but they were never that much and if you wanted them you could attain them some what easy, but now oh wow the prices are getting up there. Which is good in the sense that my chase rares might actually be worth something if they can be essentially put on most teams.
but I can not lie it hurts to see so many of the same figures on the teams...So many unused clixs. Resources were fine imo as it allowed my Arkham Asylum to be viable yeah, you can make that 1 guy stronger than he is but some teams that were just not viable actually became viable. They still weren't meta but they could hold a candle to the torch. Of course I still think resources weren't/aren't good for the game and even if Arkham Asylum teams weren't viable I blame the designers, they should've been viable(should've been better and not all gimmicky). Not saying every click should be uber but we shouldn't get a faces stomped by wannabe Dr. Manhattans.
The top three had Despotellis + Adara. (And another team in the top 8 had this combo as well.)
The top four were Entity theme teams.
The top five all had at least one entity.
Of the top eight teams, only one did not have an entity.
There were 11 of them in the top 5. That's more than an average of 2 per team.
That being said think of it THIS way...
Besides "bragging rights" is winning these tournaments WORTH the money spent on the team? If were are talking $500 of figures what is the payout? If everyone in the top 20 and everyone at worlds at this point has these $500 teams who are the big winners? The people pulling and selling these expensive pieces, that's who. People tend to lean towards the same pieces all around so unique/diverse teams are highly subjective because mostly likely 50% of your team is resources/WoL chases and at least one of the meta pieces. Also very large number of people just read about and use other people's teams. So you can't really brag about your team. At that point skill is mostly sucked out of it because its who lands the fist hit who usually wins. There is skill in setting up and positioning of course but still... I am not complaining mind you because I doubt I will every actually play in these type of events. Local play tournies: Sealeds for big cool prizes suits me just fine. Constructed with $$$ super cheese for a $10 piece is not my cup o tea. Perhaps I am just not doing it right.
If you answered YES to my first question then more power to you man! I will watch the crap out of the matches and root for you like a rabid fan! Watching super cheese vs super cheese is like watching a crazy action movie, I love the carnage!
Is availability the main issue?
Or just dislike of the entity mechanic period?
If some entities were avaliable in a entity starter kit would that help?
I have seen more diversity then ever in the meta but we still have people unhappy ?
If you enjoy uber broken teams vs uber broken teams then roc is great(and I do )
if you dont like meta then dont play in those kinds of tournaments do the casual thing (which is also cool)
I see alot of opinions from persons who arent into meta commenting on it why?
Resources ,entities ,atas, and primes are all going to have a heavy showing thats how meta is most over powered vs over powered .
Nerf the entities you still got centurion or bullseye or voodoo or iron pharoh.
Its the complexity that some of us like the aha or oh crap moments are the fun for us.
I have been to several roc events and had a great time and met great people at all of them alex for example is super cool.
I just dont get the hate on meta players or meta period .
It's nice to see variety and some dominance by Bullseye the past few ROC events. People are hating on Entities. It's usually resources, next set it could be something else. Not sure why everyone cares so much. Does everyone really attend every ROC or any? Then no need to get super competitive. If it's an issue at your local venue then kindly ask for formats where entities are not allowed or the keyword "entity" is banned. Either way there are a lot of ways to work around it but people would rather just be irate.
I've posted on these Realms Open Championship Updates before and I personally am not a fan of Entities because they are brkn but you can't fault the Players themselves. Don't hate the player, hate the game ... (that was for you, Tasoli )
If I had access to the Entities (perhaps borrowed as was the case in Origins for the Champ) and was going to play in a ROC Event then I would show up with them if I really wanted the prizes (I don't, actually.)
Who wants to show up with a knife to a gun fight?
On principle alone I get the discussion here (and I agree) but let's not be harsh on the Players, they've done nothing different than others since the War of Light Rainbow Brite came out.
I'll be attending the San Antonio Con At Your Store hosted by Chrisdosmil in August and I don't have any Entities so I've already resided to the fact that I'll be getting waxed by said Entity Teams (or even Resource Teams.) I'm okay with it, I'm going to maybe win a prize if the dice rolls are on my side and to see old friends I haven't seen in a few years.
Chill out, gang, Entities aren't going anywhere for some time until the new hotness comes out. Think of what your feelings were like as a music fan during 1999 and the domination of N'Sync and Backstreet Boys ... (another one for your my lover, Tasoli )

There is meta and then there is META!!. This is META!! play here, I felt dirty reading the team lists for the Top 4 teams. That is some heavy stuff there.
DarkLogos got into the top 16 in Tulsa using no resource and no entity, he had a better record than me in the swiss portion as he went 4-1 to my 3-2. I managed to win that event and the only element on my team worth more than 10$ was the Power Plant. Figures that cost a lot of money are that way because everybody knows they are great, but when everybody knows that they are that good then those figures cannot surprise you with what they are capable of and they can be planned against.
What you are trying to say is that there is more to it than just the team/pieces... it's the player, too (actually plays a larger part than most people would give credence to).

I agree with that part - but it has become the haves and have nots.
Yes a couple big ROCs were won without entities, but wow they sure help a lot.
While I 100% agree that a specific player can play a certain team and win with it all, and another can play the same team and lose horribly, the player with multiple entities is going to have an easier road than the one without.
Hence why yes I think you will see some teams win without entities, but I believe in the end you will see more teams with them winning.
Which I am totally fine with. ROC the eff on. I love where clix is going competitive play wise. I've posted about wanting $$$ payout tourneys forever. Here they are. I think it's great.
ALL venom is coming from people who have not, don't plan on, and don't want to play in ROC events. The critics are always the loudest, but always the least in numbers.

That's certainly true, but I'm also trying (and apparently failing) to say that if you only play what's expected then you're giving your opponent a potential advantage. They've been planning on playing teams like yours and have an idea of what to do when they come up against it. The toughest match I had in Tulsa was against a team that used Black Witch (prime) along with Splitlip to stack multiple relics on characters. Looking at the team I had no idea how to approach it so my turns took longer than in any other game that day. I lost (and nearly lost) other games due to luck, play errors, stuff like that, but I almost lost that game just because it was something effective and completely out of left field.
I'd love to have these competitive pieces and play in ROC's, but I can't justify spending the money. However, when I pull one of these money pieces now I immediately think how much I can sell it for on the bay. $160 in my pocket for other lix or activities is worth more than being able to top 16 an ROC. I enjoy high level play against skilled opponents. It's those type of games where you learn the most about your skills and where you can improve.
