Firstly I think you could have titled this thread better, no offence meant, but as soon as you say "Quit VS" people go mad as they are passionate about the game. Maybe you could have asked for help in changing the way things happen in your HL.
Anyway, I agree with you totally.
I think everyone can agree that its always nice to win, and if you have just created a new deck (that may or may not be broken), it is nice to test it out against friends.
But, this does not mean that you have to play a broken/tournament winning deck everytime you play.
Having FUN is the core of the game
My current deck is a team up of Heralds and Wildpack, the idea is to bounce your opponents characters. Now I hardly ever win with this deck, (at my local club Ive never won) but I have more fun with this deck than any one I have ever played.
Of course I would like a deck that I can win a tournament with and if I create one I would like to test it out against a few opponents, but there is still a time and place to do this. (Not during a Casual Game)
Its like Sport (now Im not the most knowledgable person about american football but try and understand where Im coming from),
If Indianapolis play Oakland. Who would you expect to win???
Indianapolis (I beleive).
Now, of course Indianapolis would like to (and probably will win the game, but, would they be more satisfied beating someone they are expecting to beat (Oakland)... ... OR, would they prefer to beat a team like Chicago (a team that will put up a fight).
If you could choose to go and watch one of the above games, which would it be? As a neutral I know the answer would have to be Indianapolis and Chicago.
Hence, the game itself (no matter who wins or loses) will be better, hence attendances will be higher, TV coverage will be better, and the atmosphere will be wonderful.
And if Indianapolis lose, they may be a little disappointed but not as much as they would if they lost to a team like Oakland.
(I dont mean to upset people with that analogy but I hope you followed my thoughts)
It can be difficult deciding which deck is broken and too good for casual play, but why not choose a deck that you and your opponent will have a fun game with, rather than one you expect to beat everyone with.
So where do you draw the line? If tier 1 decks shouldn't be played at HL do we next say that players with 10 or more lifetime pro points can't play in HL? That's exactly what the game needs to do limit the number of people playing in tournaments. Anytime there are cool prizes or money involved people's desire to win is greater and they will be more inclined to play good decks. Just because you wanted to play your favorite deck and it doesn't hold up to better decks don't come online and look for emotional support for your coming up short in a Hobby League. Dude it's a Hobby League let it go somebody wanted to win and they did what it took to win. You wanted to be original and fun now live with the consequences. The Globetrotteres are fun and original; Michael Jordan plays to win. Be happy that so many people paid attention to your little rant/pity party. Now be quiet and construct your next "i play this because I built it" deck and accept the beats if it's not as good as established decks.
because it was broken and for the past year and a half I've built a player base of 8-10 people But they don't want to come if someone is bringing something retardedly Broken. OK Thats why I didn't play it.
Ok. Let's get this straight. From the top:
You love Vs. To death. Spread the Vs. love is what you ALWAYS say. So, you have your own Hobby League. However, there are some people who built a deck that is *and I quote* "retardedly broken." It's so broken, that you decide not to play. But, you say it's not the deck, it's the enviroment the person brought with him. An enviroment such as, "You can't beat me b/c my deck is ba-roken." Right?
Ok. That's what I got out of it. So, you're telling me and everyone else here on these forums, right now, that you're deciding to quit Vs., one of the things you love most, because some guy thought he was better than everyone else b/c he had a "broken" deck.
Okay guys, lay off the man with these thread criticisms, I dont think he will actually quit VS...(I maybe wrong). But, I think what he's trying to say is that, he turns up with a few friends to play a few fun games of VS "the game he loves"... But this plan goes wrong when 1 player says forget the fun enjoyable environment Im gonna play like my life is on the line and WIN! (ok in tournament play, but in casual play take it easy)
aceswolf seems annoyed because you cant go out with your mates for a fun and enjoyable game of VS anymore as everyone wants to make it the most competitive thing in existance, everyone HAS to win.
Personally, I had the most fun game of my life the other night (read the thread entitled TO FUCHAL AND BEYOND) and we did not care about the competitive nature of the game at all, yet Iv never had more fun
People play as though, if they dont win, the game was not fun. (Im not saying we should all try to lose - of course you are disappointed when you do lose). The point is (especially in casual play) you do not NEED to win to have a good time. Iv had better, more enjoyable games when Iv lost than I have when Iv won.
If you are playing in a tournament or something, Yeah go for it and play your heart out, but when its for fun, take it easy and enjoy yourselves.
We understand, you think the Random Punks "enviroment" is some kind of sacred ground that is not open to innovation. A player brings a unique deck (read: not mono-team, unconventional win tactic) to an event and wins out and suddenly the deck is "OMG BROKERZ".
Can you point the finger at a single card (or cards) that are a problem with this deck? It burns you.... with cards that are often discarded to the bottom of a sorter box and not often played in any enviroment. As opposed to complaining about it, why not celebrate the creativity and ingenuity involved in creating such a monstrosity?
As long as you've been gaming, you should be used to "that guy" who brings the PC winning deck to a Hobby League event (or Friday Night Magic or whatever your gaming background is). Every playgroup has one and the only way to curb them is to take the advice that was given before: find a deck to beat it.
If you were "polling" the room (as it sounds like you were) asking if the player should have brought and played such a "broken" deck, then of course you're going to get some negative feedback... no one likes to lose, especially when there is excellent schwag (if not $$$) on the line.
In regards to your grammar and posting on any forum on the internet: You are judged by what you say and how you say it. In the context of online posting "how you say it" includes grammar, punctuation and content. While no one is asking you to be a Spelling Bee Champion, they are asking you to slow down and think your posts out a bit (in regards to said grammar, punctuation and content).
No Im going to quit because I've pushed this game for a year and a half to grow a group of players and Now I'm the only one who Plays Now. So what should I do. Play with myself because everyone that plays live to far away from me. I'd rather sell every thing make some money and tell every one not to play it because there are Pros that will just degrade you by Kicking your face in Repetedly.
The other thread got closed and I wronte allthis so it is not going to waste! :(
Argh, oh no, inner hippy breaking though.
Guys, rather then shouting at each other the same repetitive argument of. "ITS BROKED I NO WANT PLAY WITH BROKED." against "SHUT UP, I LIKE WINNING, IF YOU DON'T LIKE WINNING YOU A STUPID." why don't you calm down and take a look at the perspective of both people for a second, I know I have already contributed to this thread trying to say things in a civil way but apparetly I am the only one.
Ok, aceswold point of view. He has worked hard to garner support for Vs and a Vs community in his area due to his love of the game, it is something he has worked hard for and has the income to keep doing. Great for him. Then somebody comes along to what he has undoubtedly heralded as a janktastic fun tournament with a deck that is exceedingly good. We've all been there, being disheartened when being throughly trouced by an opponent with a better deck, even if yours played it's best and you still lost. Now some of his players are pissed off it wasn't as casual as they liked and he is pissed off his player base could be waning.
People reading his posts point of view. Whine. Whine and more whine. Aces, if you want to complain about something do so, if you want argue your point do so, but try to do so in a manner that doesen't leave yourself open to rife flaming because there are plenty who will take the chance, and the fact you get angrier every time doesen't help. Chill.
Fact in point. Not everyone will agree, people play the game for diffrent reasons, that's a good thing too, means our game appeals to lots of diffrent people. Some people play to win, other to have fun, maybe even some weird form of massichist who plays to lose (Just like Big Eclipse). The point is, you won't agree so why harp on the same flaming all the time?
Anywho, said my piece I am sure the flaming will continue, so fire away boys. (Get my pun? :P)
I'm going to post part of what I said in another thread.

The really strong decks some of us hate are sort of like... well, the big companies in America. Wal-Mart. McDonalds. Phyzer. They can pull some really low things to hurt their opponents such as creative pricing and elaborate ad campaigns. The ma' and pa' shops don't stand a chance. They either find a niche to adapt into, such as relying on a loyal fanbase or providing products their competitors can't. They may provide quality and service over their competitors. They may try to be healthier or cleaner or trendier.
The same can apply to VS, in a rough analogy. A lot of people hate Wal-Mart. A lot of people hate Quickfate. However, people still go to Wal-Mart because of their low prices, and a lot of people still play Quickfate. Both can roll back prices/endurance all over the place. Cheap tactics- but capitalist tactics which have proven themselves over the course of time. How do we adapt? The way which people such as RanmaSolo have been suggesting: the smaller decks either find a niche where they can get an edge on the competition- whether it means employing hate against what they believe their greatest competitor will be or becoming innovative with something nobody expects.
Just calm down. Don't quit. I know you feel passionate about this, because it can be REALLY AGGRAVATING to be up against decks like the ones you were against. Just hang in there, calm down, leave the message boards for a while and find something you enjoy, whether its VS or something else. But calm down. We don't want you to quit.
In all honesty, I think you should keep playing and enjoying the game... but stay off the forums. You went way off the deep end this morning in that nuked thread. Could you do that?
you should really take your own advice, i beg you to do so
