Finally got around to seeing Looper. Not bad! Fun stuff! Could have done without Piper Perabo starring as yet another piece of pretty set dressing, but meh.
I thought Looper was simply astonishing.
Buckled in and got the Godfather trilogy on VUDU, and the HDX quality actually looks better than charlesx's loaner blurays.
Watched I and II, don't have the heart to watch III. Think I'll need to develop a drinking game for it.

I could not have asked for a better chapter in the ongoing saga. From where this series started to where it is now... hilarious. Just an absurdly good time. Emphasis on absurd. The most fun movie I've seen in a while. Anyone who goes to see this for any other reason... you're doing it wrong. OH and the trailer gave most of it away, so don't expect much more.
Oh! again! and the tease for ANOTHER friggin' sequel? Yes. Yes indeed. The wait is the worst part.
How they tied it all together... this is maybe the dumbest use of talent and ambition in storytelling and movie-making you could ask for and still get a result of fun.

In the past couple of days, I've seen two films in the theater:
Epic: My son really wanted to see this, and his mom wouldn't take him. I admit I was a little worried about how I'd react to this film, as the theater was mostly filled with 4-to-8-year-olds and their parents...but it turned out to be a solid film. It was pleasantly PG-rated, but it had enough action that I didn't notice. It was actually fun to be in a theater full of well-behaved little kids who reacted at all the right spots.
Star Trek: Into Darkness: This was the film my son vetoed forcing Epic, so I took myself to the first morning matinee. I enjoyed this film but I wasn't knocked out of my seat. It absolutely was firing all cylinders. Ultimately I think I would have preferred a film that was not so closely tied to certain elements of the previous film franchise...and I would have preferred that a certain actor from that franchise *not* appear...almost literally phoning in an appearance for nothing but nostalgia.
That said, I'll probably end up owning a copy of ST:ID and not Epic.
Saw Iron Man 3. Enjoyed it but I can see where fans would get fired up. I liked the change.
I agree with you about the fans, but are we not fans? We enjoyed it. I loved the twist because it was one I did not see coming...
Just saw Hangover III. Not sure it counts as a film, but it definitely had a darker more somber tone throughout.I enjoyed the characters for the most part, but there where changes.Should you choose to see it make sure you don't leave too early...
Just watched Seven Psychopaths.
Pretty predictable at a lot of points but a very fun movie.
But how can anything with Christopher Walken be bad?
Even stuff with a guy imitating Christopher Walken (ie. anything DCAU with Ghoul in it) is good. That's just how good Christopher Walken is.
I got to see Iron Man 3 last weekend. I really don't see why people are so upset, though I was just watching it because I wanted to see Robert Downey Jr. playing a superhero again. Plus, the trick he did with the Mark 42 armor against Killian was completely unexpected. Probably the most impressive part was that they took, in my opinion, a completely unlikable character from the comics (the Mandarin) and made him awesome; the twist as to his identity revealed later in the movie just made him better.
I just watched Brave. Wasn't particularly impressed. Not a very good offering from Pixar. Sure it wasn't as cloyingly toyetic as Cars, but just not really all that interesting.
Django Unchained. Really dug it. Not a Tarantino movie with a whole lot of layered subtext, but it did have some really fun performances from Waltz, DiCaprio and Jackson.
I finally got around to watching Cabin in the Woods.
It's hard to talk about without being spoilery, but if you like slasher style horror flicks it is a FANTASTIC take on them.
