Once Mastodon came around every big and crunchy band thought they need to have big and crunchy beards.
Funny thing is I've seen Mastodon a couple of times and I wasn't impressed.
I much rather listen to Kyuss, Fu Manchu, The Sword, Orange Goblin, Sixty Watt Shaman, The Workhorse Movement, Black Water Rising, Corrosion of Conformity, Monster Magnet or Wolfmother.

Yes, I agree. The only think I love about Mastodon is their album cover art. I almost bought the Leviathan album just because of that. Thank goodness I talked myself out of it. I do have to admit that since I shunned them for so long I am OK with listening to them.
IF you like those bands I have discovered some early sludgy/bluesy/rock bands that I have come to learn about. You should give these a listen to and see if it opens some doors to some new bands to enjoy...

It seems like you got a lot of great songs there. Are there any bands that you feel like the band is omitting?

I agree the Leviathan album cover art is awesome, and sounds like I'm in the same boat as you, if Mastodon comes up in a play list, I don't usually skip them. I just don't put them in searches for music or give them my cash for CD's.
Thanks for the recommendations, right away, I like the horns in Gun and you had with me with the Frank Frazetta artwork for Dust.

Have you ever watched the documentary "A Band Called Death" on Netflix?
1975, so ahead of their time, reminds me of Bad Brains before Bad Brains.
I once saw this band open up for Clutch and they killed it. Apparently, they never released any albums, but, they have a single on this hardcore comp, and to me it sounds out of place, compared to the other bands. I do like the song though!
