My mom is a diehard old school Catholic. I went to a Catholic grade school and high school. The principal of the high school during my years there happened to be stationed at my grade school when I was in grade school for a few years as well. So I basically interacted with this priest for about 7 years.

Years later, he was in one of the first groups of defrocked priests when this scandal started.

When my mother heard the news of his involvement in the scandal she started calling my brothers grilling them to make sure they were unharmed/untouched from when they interacted with this man. But my mom is very OCD so she was calling us in birth order. As soon as she hung up with my oldest brother, he skipped down the chain and called me first though I'm the youngest. So by the time my mom got to me, she was already critically stressed out from talking to her children about this and as a whole, we're all pretty flippant kids.

So my mom is freaking out at me on the phone 1) because she's been talking about this repeatedly with my brothers and 2) because I had the most interaction with the priest. I'm also pretty nonchalant about the whole thing since I had spent a ton of time with this man and never once even suspected he could be involved in any of the things he was accused of. So mom is really upset with me, basically yelling at me about not being upset enough. So she says to me something along the lines of "aren't you the least bit upset by this?" I reply that I was in fact slightly upset... upset he never made a pass at me. I keep telling her that it was upsetting that I wasn't pretty enough and questioned why I didn't look available.

She hung up on me. But that ended the call!

You all should appreciate this ridiculous Catch-22 I have with the power company right now.

We're in the midst of a very strong windstorm/thunderstorm week, and I noticed that the power line pole that runs between us and the house to the west is blown approx 20 degrees from vertical this morning, and is getting worse. I have a 25 minute wait on the phone support line and cannot leave a message, so I go to the website.

Not helpful.
Is your power out? No
Is your power flickering/dim/intermittent? No
Is there a downed power line? Well, technically no.

Unless I answer one of those 3 with a yes, it gives me an erroe message. SO I tried to answer yes to the downed line one and the first caveat is that "please call emergency authorities if you have not done so. If unable to, we will do so" or something along those lines.

I just want to leave them a freaking message that the power line is in danger of falling, but they won't let me!

That depends on the phone system.

I have programmed the one where I work to do nothing but repeat the menu for 3 minutes and if you do not make an actual choice from the menu(0 is disabled) then it hangs up.

Now, the phone system will get you a human unless you specify a specific person, then it will depend on if they are at their desk or have the extension transferred to their cell.


And if someone is still using a rotary phone, please come into the 1990's and get a phone that does not contain bakelite.
