One thing about people out of the top 8 not getting good prizes ...
How many Elite Series are expecting more than 8 players anyway? I remember once in a while playing in a constructed PCQ, in spite of the format, just because attendance seemed low [often the case of places where a 10K or PC was being held, and they had sealed and constructed going on at the same time].

I think that was due, in part, that you had the tournament around once or twice a month. Not to mention that Since constructed and sealed PCQs were separated, most played sealed as it helped them a heck of a lot in testing for day 2, then playing in constructed, which would of been a format that wouldn't of mattered as the PC would of been different anyway.
With this the only very competitive tournament, and one that happens once every 2-3 months, a larger turn out is to be expected. in NY last time there were 30 people, and a number close to that in NJ.

I think the ironic part of that is the possibility of no "official" prizes for 9th and below being a factor in people not showing up. Never underestimate the power of the "I don't think I'll Top 8, but I'd like to play and at least get a few packs for my trouble" player.
I'm driving seven hours no matter how many people show up.
I admire your determination, though with twin seven month old daughters, a four year old son, and my better half-my "free time" is quite limited, so I have to choose how to spend it. If it was a bit closer, I wouldn't mind about the turnout at all.
There's a Chipotle Grill next to the Berkeley one btw.
Man, as a dude who used to live in Berkeley, why go to a chain place like Chipotle Grill when you could go to the far superior Montero's that is not far away (Solano and San Pablo)? They have bomb Horchata. You should also make sure to eat all the breakfasts you can there, especially if you are hungover.
By the way, can anyone confirm the existence of chipotle more than ten years ago? I say it's a conspiracy. Either that or archaeologists unearthed the secret of the chipotle in ancient Mayan ruins...

Chipotle Mexican Grill originated in Denver, Colorado in 1993. The founder, Steve Ells, still serves as chairman and CEO.

That's funny because there's one near Neutral Ground in NYC. Though Neutral Ground has moved a little bit this week, so I'm not quite sure how close at the moment.
I'm really looking foward to this one, and maybe some PC points ;)
Erick said they were giving out Points for this event If this would of been announced I bet the turn out would of been alot better
Well I don't think they really need to announce it. Under the tournaments tab on the main page it specifically states:
Elite Series
These events occur in select locations on a quarterly basis. Players participating in Elite Series events can earn PC points that qualify them for the Pro Circuit.
I feel 10 pounds fatter just from reading this thread :(. Gamers need to lose weight, so we gain energy and don't fall over from heart attacks (less gamers = bad). Plus, if more gamers became health consious, game stores would start offering healthy options on their snacks :).
I try my hardest to gain weight, and have my whole life. I am one of those cursed with an unholy metabolism. Was always too light to participate in any physical sports.
Right now I can eat two Chipotles back to back with a soda, and some chips, on my way to the infamous "three burrito challenge" offered at out local Chipotle.
I have been asked to leave a Red Lobster during all you can eat shrimp for pushing past the 230 shrimp scampi mark, and plan to hit 300 before I die.
I would like to add that I am in the best shape I have been my whole life, and my doctor agrees, so anyone who wants to stop eating "gamer" food can pass their leftovers this way.

Eh, just watch it... the reality is
1) The food may not affect your waist line, but it will hurt your long-term health.
2) This will go away with age. I've known a fair number of people with similar "problems", and the end result is somewhere in the mid 20ish area, their metabolism fades, they're used to eating that much food, and they end up the largest chubbers in existence. My friend Frankie (eternal Junior Pro Tour Champion for Magic: The Gathering, since he was the last one :)) is the worst case of this... I'm seriously scared for him, and he's only 27 now. He used to brag about how many dinners he could pack away too.
I've been fat a few times in my life, and I can safely say not being such is FAR better. Beyond that, if one person starts the trend, you might help your friends in the long-term, too.
Oh, and on topic, I won't be attending Elite series. Without a major prize, I rarely feel like playing constructed, and $20 is far too much for a minor-prize constructed tourney to begin with. Magic tournaments typically give prizes that are actually more than the entry fees... the store owners know they will get the money back in sales of singles, food, and packs. I know VS isn't quite there, but they still shouldn't be charging more than, say, $4 or $5 above prize values for a tourney. They still do get traffic in their store, which will lead to some prizes.
But, as a low prize constructed tourney, I just have better things to do with my time and money.
If you don't attend even though you 'realistically could', then you don't have a leg to stand on when arguing or complaining.
Define a realistic chance of going?
I'm in Lowell, MA - a 4+ hour drive to NYC. I'm married, have 3 kids and (silly me) actually expected there to be one at YMG this time around. It's a matter of Priorities - My wife, kids and general homelife are more of a priority to me than Vs. right now.
The 2 stores up here that actually seem to be interested in running tournaments on a regualr basis (Harrison's in Salem, MA and Jetpack up in NH) are (IMHO) left out in the cold by UDE because of UDE's connection with/loyalty to YMG. Aces and his crew are bending over backwards to grow this game, while YMG does nothing, and that's the real problem up here.
