In the deck we're talking about, there are 3-5 other characters on the field who can activate in the combat phase. So you give Random the Artifacts and a pump or two, then you get to attack 4-6 times per turn with him (after teaming up with X-Men and playing Sneak Attack so he can't be stunned while attacking). Declare an attack, activate someone else, discard a card to ready Random. Several of the other activations get you a card, to help pay all the discard costs.

So what you are saying is:

The X-Press needs 4 X-Men guys. I get the feeling the deck only wants one guy with the X-Men affiliation.

The ultimate Random enabler would likely be Speed Queen with an Ego Gem ... on it's own that's 2 activations and cards being drawn [although you do lose out the first time with the equip leaving hand ... unless you've got New Baxter Building to cut out the sting].
