The inside of Jeff's mouth tasted like steel wool and kitty litter (not that he has any idea what kitty litter really tastes like, but he's got a pretty active imagination so let's run with it, okay?)... what did he DO last night?
As he tries to pry his eye lids apart, a sound like rip saw tears through his head. Is that... snoring?
Finally forcing his eyes to open, he is greeted by a scene of desctruction and spent debauchery. His friends lay strewn about the room in various states of undress (or overdress in the case of the guy inexplicably wearing a tuxedo), cast aside like broken toys. The furniture is overturned, couch cushions are laying in strategic stepping positions across the carpet, and there appears to be a Twister mat wrapped around the coffee table. And in the background, the theme music from the Super Friends played on endless repeat as the television displayed the menu screen of the last DVD. What went on here?
As Jeff tries to reassemble his jumbled memories and make sense of the tableau before him, the front door opens and Jeff's wife calls, "Honey! I'm home. How was your night with your frie...."
"Not again, Jeff. Didn't you learn anything from the last time?"
"Daddy is silly!" screeches a playful toddler that has followed behind his wife. Jeff winces as the cheerful laughter claws at his eardrums.
"Yes, Daddy is very silly," agrees his wife.
So ends the second installment of my DVD Marathon series! THANKS FOR PLAYING!
Batman, you are the resident genius… or at least, the rest of the Super Friends keep you around because you are the only one that knows how to run the computer. Each night you may target another player and have the Bat-Computer scan that player; you might learn their role, their power, or maybe you'll just end up making a grilled cheese sandwich (hey, even you aren't sure what all the flashing lights do). Also, if you make the night kill for your team you do it with STYLE! Who needs super powers when you've got all these cool gadgets and ropes and stuff. Now it may take you a little while, sure, but you alway catch your man. Essentially, if you are given the NK, your target won't die until the NEXT night phase, but your kill can't be blocked or misdirected.
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
For his Bat-Computer power he had a 33% chance for role, 33% chance for power, and 33% chance for failure. For his special NK ability, his NK could only be prevented by Doctoring the target and Quebbster DID try to doctor Wade on night 2, but Quebbster was RB'd.
Jerry_Damage01, Superman (Super Friends)
Superman, you are the most powerful being on the planet… and you're stuck babysitting these idiots. Sure, they mean well but you've got so many super powers you've can't even remember them all and they've got an invisible jet and can talk to fish. If it wasn't for your X-Ray vision and living with Wonder Woman, you'd have probably given up a long time ago. Anyway, you're in charge of the Super Friends so you get to have the final say in what happens every night. Also, due to your Kryptonian heritage, you can't be killed at night and it will take extra effort to lynch you during the day... until someone breaks out the kryptonite, of course. Also, once per night I will make up a power for you to use (they did it all the time in the show, so I can do it here). Finally, with your X-Ray vision and super speed, if you make the night kill and are blocked or otherwise prevented from killing your target, you'll know who stopped you (basically you will reverse track your failed kill target).
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
He was the Don (2/3rd majority needed and immune to NK while the other Super Friends were alive. There were six possible powers, randomly assigned 1) X-Ray Vision = Guide; 2) Heat Vision = Role Block; 3) Spin Really Fast = Silence; 4) Fly Through Time = Doubler; 5) Move the Earth/Handstand = Doctor, 6) Super Speed = Janitor
Mr Stranger, Robin (Super Friends)
Robin. Poor Robin. You're dressed as bright as a road flare and you're only real job is to keep Batman from killing himself. And that's not even going into all the, uh, "young ward" issues. Anyway, because you are always watching out for Batman to get his cape caught in some gears or for him to keep talking to himself while the giant fireball is hurtling towards his face, Batman can't be night killed while you're still alive; you always manage to pull his sorry butt out of the way just in time. Also, if you are not given the night kill, you MUST target a non-Super Friend player; that player will now target you instead of its normal target.
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
He kept targeting get_1... hence the constant barrage of green pants. I know it was frutrating for get, but I thought that was a rather effective use of the power.
Silver Lantern, Aquaman (Super Friends)
Aquaman is useless. The bad guys know this, the Super Friends know this, heck even Aquaman knows this. They keep him around mostly to clean the fish tank and also because occasionally the bad guys decide to rob a cruise ship or something. But mostly he just gets captured. A lot. And then the other Super Friends have to go rescue him. So much so that you've turned being captured into an art form; if Aquaman is killed or lynched, the next day phase will be open only a short time for discussion and no voting/lynching will be allowed. This is because the bad guys know that now that they have caught your sorry fish-keister, they'll have to prepare to get their HQ raided when your pals come to rescue you. But it isn't all fun and games, after they rescue you, the other Super Friends will make you go back to cleaning the fish tank and your not allowed to go out and play until that is done (basically, this is a fancy way of saying Aquaman is a Princess and he doesn't get rescued or ressurected back into the game).
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
Aquaman could only NK Black Manta. If he was given any other target, he'd automatically fail. He's frikkin Aquamna... what did you expect?
Grinner, Wonder Woman (Super Friends)
Wonder Woman is pretty hot and she is always wearing that halter top and trampy hot pants, so I guess that's why they decided to make her jet invisible. Now they can always see her. But have you ever noticed how the same actress that performed Wonder Woman's voice did ALL the female characters in the game? Yeah, that's pretty bad when even a 5-year-old says "Mommy, why does Giganta sound like Wonder Woman with a cold?" But at least it helps confuse your enemies: they can't be sure it is really you or maybe one of their friends in disguise. Once per night, you can target another player and randomly misdirect them with your voice "talents". Also, because of your fancy invisible jet, if you can't be tracked when targeting another player (with either the night kill or the misdirect).
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
Frankly, given her untrackable actions, I was kind of surprised Grinner was never assigned the NK.
Over all, the mafia communicated with other very well and had seemed to have a fairly good handle on who the major powers were... but they kept getting their actions blocked. The lack of NKs absolutely killed their chances.
Also, once I publish the player list, you'll notice that claim-wise the Mafia did have the deck sort of stacked against them (although there are several non-LOD villains that could have been used, like Darkseid), but they had some pretty potent abilities (2 couldn't be NK'd and the silence immunity to lynch really favored them) and the town had many built in points of failure in their abilities, so I thought it all balanced out. Frankly, if they could have pulled off a couple more NKs, this probably would have quickly shifted to a landslide victory for the mafia.
But you don't seriously think we should have known that though right? Given the same options I'm sure I'd have had Aquaman attempt those kills 99% of the time. I mean we all had night powers except him why wouldn't we have him make a kill? Maybe if after the first attempt the writeup screamed "Hey! He is never going to kill anyone! Hello!"
So you guys kept using Aquaman for kills, even though they never worked? Hmmm...
Well, at first we thought he got stopped by either a RB or a DR. Then other it came down to everyone else having things to do during the night and trying again with Aquaman.
Stupid Aquaman being so lame.
I'm interested to see what Michigan's power was since that kind of tripped everything up and put us out in the open.
It's like Michael Jordan going to the YMCA to play basketball.
Welcome Charlie (Charles William Cook)! Born 7/14/2011!
I didn't take the Grodd claim for several reasons.
1) I was pretending to be silenced, if I suddenly came on and said "don't lynch me I'm __" the Town would know I'm full of it since I wasn't responding before.
2) I wasn't expecting that "lets give all the votes to Rokk and let him try everyone" thing.
3) I had too much heat. I thought that at this point it would be better to cut off the finger to save the hand.
Also Get, I targeted you all of the nights you got green pants.
It's really bad luck for me that Charles happened to have green pants and you all assumed it was him on the second night.
The Aquaman thing sucked...I would've made him perform every single nightkill, in theory, since the rest of us had night powers and he didn't.
You are the mad genius in a purple jump suit with plans for world domination. Unfortunately, ever since you formed the Legion of Doom, most of you time has been spent replacing furniture and getting the smell of wet gorilla out of the carpet. Even so, your evil intelligence has conceived of a plan to place video cameras EVERYWHERE (you've even got one in the center of the Earth) and while you usually use these cameras to spy on the Super Friends, you could probably make a fortune in black mail if you wanted. Once per night, you can target a player with your abundant cameras and you will either see everything that character does (track them) or everything that happens to that character (reverse track), your choice.
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
Unfortunately, charlesx frequently choose characters that had little or no activity... there was only two nights where he got an really meaningful results.
get_1, Brainiac (town)
Even with your flawless computerized mind and supreme intellect, all you really want is a pair of pants. Grundy might get all the credit for pants stealing, but YOU started it. Each night, your flawless computerized mind (and tiny short shorts) can target a player and search for their pants. And while rifling through their clothing, you're bound to discover a clue as to their role or power.
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
Mr Stranger, as Robin, was messing with his results almost the whole game. Frustrating for get, I am sure, but hilarious for me to watch
Morpheousdr3am3r, Cheetah (town)
Every time Luthor calls role in the Legion of Doom headquarters, you respond by shredding the table in front of you with your claws. Yeah, your name is "Cheetah" and you have claws… the whole Legion gets that! You don't need to use the furniture as a scratching post everytime we say your name. If your going to do that, why not go and try and claw something worth clawing? Like another player, perhaps. In fact, that's your night power: each night, you can target a player for a good clawing, removing them from the game as they are embarrassed by their now shredded clothing. This isn't a guaranteed night kill and sometimes you will feel the urge to claw the furniture for old times sake. (Basically, you're a vigillante with a % chance for success... and no, I won't tell you what that chance is.)
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
Base 50% chance for success on the NK. I really expected people to play the drinking game more, and thus get the bonus for getting the correct answers, so figured this vig power would come into play much more frequently than it actually did.
ChiRocker, Black Manta (town)
Some people achieve greatness; others have greatness thrust upon them. At the completely opposite end of the scale we have you, Black Manta, the man who has decided to make Aquaman his archenemy. Aquaman? Are you kidding me? You'd get more of a challenge trying to steal candy from kids on Halloween night. Well, you've must have been Luthor's college roommate or something, because even with THAT life-goal hanging over your head you still managed to make it into the Legion of Doom. And since there doesn't seem to be a lot of water around here to justify your submarine, you're just going to have to spend your time holding whatever sciencey device Luthor or Brainiac hands to you. Each night you will recieve a random power; you may sometimes get the same power again, but there is never any guarantee what you might have from night to night.
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
He had six potential powers, randomly determined each night: 1) X-Ray Scanner = Tracker; 2) Dream Reverberator = Random Misdirect; 3) Freeze Ray = Role Block; 4) Heat Beam = Night Kill; 5) Magnetic Repulsor = Bus Drive; 6) Malfunction = choose one of the others, but it backfires and silences Manta
CarlosMucha, Giganta (town)
You're 50 feet tall and you decided to wear a skirt? That doesn't seem like a very good idea… but it does tend to, ah, "stun" anyone below you who happen to look up as you pass by. Once per night, you can target a player and your pantless antics will stun them into silence.
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
So here was one of the silencer culprits... also, since the voice actress that played Wonder Woman also did the voice of Giganta (and most of the other female characters) so any mafia action that targetted Giganta had a 25% chance to fail (the idea being that they would think they were targetting a friend and would stop), but it never came into play(Cheetah took Giganta out)
Rokk_Krinn, Scarecrow (town):
Your whole deal is making people afraid of stuff with your fear gas, which sounds pretty cool at first. But then you realize that he seemed to need a different gas for each different fear effect:a gas for fear or heights, a gas for fear of snakes, a gas for fear of commitment, etc. With all these super-specific fear gases, you have to wonder how the testing of these gases went... did he just does a guy with his latest batch of fear gas and then show him different pictures until he screamed? And, if so, just how many cases of "Fear of Creepy Clowns" are in the Legion of Doom's basement? Anyway, once per night you can target a player to get dosed with your latest concoction and then try to scare them. It might work so well you scare them away for good, or perhaps you just scare them into not acting for the night, or maybe it is just another batch of "Fear of Creepy Clowns". (basically, you have a chance to night kill, role block, or fail and, no, I will not tell you how much of a chance for each)
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
25% chance for NK, 50% chance for Role Block, and 25% chance for failure. He would also drag his target or anyone who targetted him 25% of the time... and unlike some of the other secret powers, this went off A LOT. Way more than I anticipated.
ghosta, Riddler (town): I've always wondered why the Legion of Doom let you stick around. As soon as they were done creating a new plan to take over the world, you were running to taunt the Super Friends with one of your stupid riddles. And the weirdest thing was that they always believed you! You could tell them anything in riddle form and they would do it... why you didn't just tell them to all jump into a volcano, I'll never know. Once per night, you can target another player and give them a (stupid) riddle that they must answer. If they answer it correctly, you will be silenced the next day phase. If they don't answer it correctly, or fail to answer at all, they are role blocked for the night. If you target the same player two nights in a row and they fail both times, the will be removed from the game (maybe they jumped into a volcano?). Please remember to send ME the riddle and the target's name; do not actually PM anyone else.
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
Sadly, ghosta had a hard time coming up with riddles to send. He sent one night 1 and was silenced when it was correctly answered and then chose to pass his action every night after so he could stay active. In hindsight, I would have done something a little different here... but I guess I was blinded by my enjoyment of the power (I would love to get something like this) and didn't think of what would happen if the player didn't really know any good riddles. Oh well... sorry, ghosta.
DarqFeonix, Captain Cold and Toyman (town)
Two of the more useless members of the Legion of Doom in one role! Apparently, when Luthor was recruiting he decided that the only way to counter Flash's speed was with a guy in a parka with a sno-cone maker and that another guy who worked at Toys 'R Us part-time would be able to get them some sweet employee discounts. The good news, though, is this gives you some options. Each night you can target a player and either create a Ice Duplicate of your target, which will give them an extra action for the night but will also silence them the next day phase, or you can let them use your employee discount to get a new toy, which might grant a random one shot power to that player... or it might do nothing at all. Also, you the player will survive the first time you are night killed or lynched, because the character you used most recently will die, but the other will remain. If you're killed a second time, though, game over.
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
So this was the source of a lot of the silencing this game: doubling + silence. Unfortunately, one night he doubled ghosta (who wasn't using his riddles at that point) and another night he doubled Rokk (who failed both fear gas attacks). There was a 75% chance that the toy would be something useful one shot power, 25% chance of crap. If a useful result was rolled, the target was given one of these six possibilities: 1) Exploding Top (Role Block); 2) Kevlar Doll (Body Guard); 3) Remote Control Spy Plane (Tracker); 4) Super Strong Silly String (JK) 5) Toxic Bubble Blower (steals vote) 6) Wind Up Batmobile (MD)
Immortal_Rave, Gorilla Grodd (town)
You are a powerful simian scientist, and while you hope to one day rule Gorilla City with your evil mental powers you haven't apparently figured out how clothing works. Seriously, as soon as something is sentient, it should at least put on a pair of shorts. Anyway, your gorilla mouth has some difficulty with human speech and you tend to growl, slurp, and spit a lot when talking (at least, that's what the voice actor always sounds like). Once per night, you can target a player and they will be stopped in their tracks as they try to decipher your slurred speech, role blocking them for the night.
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
I was looking forward to writing this one up, too, and then he went and was captured night 2. Oh well...
Quebbster, Sinestro (town)
Your Yellow Power Ring makes you one of the most powerful beings in the universe. You can create anything from giant, rampaging yellow dinosaur constructs to protective yellow bubbles… so naturally the Legion of Doom tends to just leave you at home a lot. Oh well, at least you get to hang out in the "Villains That Are Too Tough" lounge with Bizzaro and Grundy. (Translation: You are Sinestro. The Legion of Doom tends to leave you and the other actual super-powered villains at home most of the time, where you hang out in the "Villains That Are Too Tough" lounge with Bizzaro and Grundy while people like Toyman get their heads bashed in by the Super Friends. This means you are masoned with Bizarro and Grundy and may PM them as you wish... but each night only one of you three may submit an action since Luthor doesn't let you out of the Lounge very often. Your night power is Doctor)
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
Mason ends when at night 5 or when there are 7 or less town players, whichever happens first. Also, each night he had a 10% chance to role block himself, anyone who targetted him, and 1-3 other random players... this was meant as a bit of a joke where during one episode, Sinestro creates a yellow construct of a T-Rex and then loses control of it and it sits on him and attacks the LoD (and he just seems to forget that he could just will it away). This never went off and I was soooooo looking forward to writing up
The DarkStone, Solomon Grundy (town)
RRAAGGGH! GRUNDY HATE THE SUPER FRIENDS!!! GRUNDY STRONGEST ONE THERE IS AND HE WILL GRAB THE SUPER FRIENDS AND CARRY THEM AROUND ALL NIGHT BECAUSE THESE CARTOONS NEVER LET PEOPLE ACTUALLY HIT EACH OTHER!!! GRUNDY ALSO TOO STRONG FOR LEGION OF DOOM AND HAS TO STAY IN THE "VILLAINS THAT ARE TOO TOUGH" LOUNGE WITH BIZZARO AND SINESTRO!!!
(Translation: You are Solomon Grundy. You hate the Super Friends. The Legion of Doom tends to leave you and the other actual super-powered villains at home most of the time, where you hang out in the "Villains That Are Too Tough" lounge with Bizzaro and Sinestro while people like Toyman get their heads bashed in by the Super Friends. This means you are masoned with Bizarro and Sinestro and may PM them as you wish... but each night only one of you three may submit an action since Luthor doesn't let you out of the Lounge very often. Your night power is Jail Keeping.)
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
Mason ends when at night 5 or when there are 7 or less town players, whichever happens first. Grundy was also secretly a silence nexus, with a 25% chance each night to silence anyone he targetted or who targetted him. That night with 4 silences? That was the one time it went off and it happened to be a night where a bunch of people targetted him.
Wade Wilson, Bizarro (town)
Me am not Bizzaro! Me am best friends with Superman and Super Friends. Me NOT hang out in "Villains That Are Too Tough" lounge with Grundy and Sinestro. Me NOT masoned with Grundy and Sinestro. Me NOT able to misdirect another player each night with backwards speech! (Translation: You are Bizzaro. You hate Superman and the Super Friends. The Legion of Doom tend to leave you and the other actual super-powered villains at home most of the time, where you hang out in the "Villains That Are Too Tough" lounge with Solomon Grundy and Sinestro while people like Toyman get their heads bashed in by the Super Friends. This means you are masoned with Grundy and Sinestro and may PM them as you wish... but each night only one of you three may submit an action since Luthor doesn't let you out of the Lounge very often. Your night power is a random misdirect.)
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
He was also 50% immune to NKs AND the mafia had a 50% chance to fail out right if they targetted him (since he looks like Superman)... and of course, night 1 he gets targetted by Batman's special NK and fails both rolls. Ugh.
Yeah, at first I would have been giving him the kills, too. That was kind of the point to why I set him up the way I did. But he was also the Princess... a MAFIA Princess. I thought that was actually a tremendously useful power as it (theoretically) would buy the mafia a whole extra day phase where they don't have to worry about lynches.
You’re the computer that always sends the Super Friends off into yet another ridiculous and hairbrained adventure. One of these days, they'll just say "Screw this" and unplug you, but until then you need to tell everyone where to go and what to do. Once per night, choose a target and pass them a note of impending doom (well, Superfriends version of 'doom') and how they might avoid/avert the doom (you will send me this note with your target's name and I will actually send it to them). You win if you can get three players to do what you tell them to do or by surviving until the end of the game.
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
I was absolutely floored that no one was discussing the notes that they were sent. I think Quebbster mentioned he got a riddle (which was from ghosta) night 1, but not a peep about the stuff mich was sending out. Ended up being a very easy win for him.
For the drinking game:
If you guessed below the correct number: X% chance that any power you were targeted with had some kind of additional negative side effect , where X = 10*number you missed by. For example, if you guessed 5 drinks and there were actually 7 drinks, you'd have a 20% (7 - 5 = 2, 10*2 = 20) of getting a negative effect. Negative effects were either silence, role block, or loss of vote.
If you guessed the correct number: If your action normally had a chance to fail, it would automatically succeed. And if your action normally did not have a chance to fail, you had a 25% chance to avoid being blocked or misdirected.
If you guessed above the correct number: X% chance that your action would fail, where X = 10*number you missed by. For example, if you guessed 5 drinks and there were actually 7 drinks, you'd have a 20% (7 - 5 = 2, 10*2 = 20) of failing.
And, of course, if you chose not to play there were no penalties or advantages.
RE: the drinking game
I know that many of you had difficulty viewing the links. And I am sorry for that (it was one of the reasons I finally decided to discontinue the drinking game there near the end). However, I chose to use seanbaby's links for a couple reasons: 1) I honestly thought Real Player was fairly commonly used (at least, I've never had a problem running it and until now I can't recall hearing of anyone else who couldn't run it), 2) I was looking for something short, sweet, and to the point for the clips (most youtube videos for the Super Friends run at least 4 or 5 minutes) so that way you could quickly watch it a count up a few drinks, 3) they were readily available and already organized on seanbaby's website (which I was hoping people might be referencing anyway to get some of the little jokes/hints dropped in the write ups).
If I had to do it all over again, I would have done something different for the game. I don't know what, but obviously this didn't work out nearly as well as I had originally planned and something should have been done differently.
Multiple NKers for the Town, a three-person Mafia, a hindered Mafia hitman with no other power, and a limited character base.
Mafia had no chance, normal.
All three of the NKs for the town were far from sure things AND two of the mafia were completely immune to NKs for the majority of the game. If anything, the town NKers were much more dangerous to their fellow townies than anything else when they weren't being ineffectual (as seen by the Giganta kill).
The three person mason group was powerful, pooling information, but they could not act together at night; they were only allowed to submit one action. Plus Wade was taken out right away. I thought it was fairly balanced actually.
The only real disadvantage the mafia had was in the claims department. But even there, they had options beyond the LoD, plus Supes could (and did) Janitor sometimes. So it did hinder them, but I call that a far cry from no chance.
More than anything, I think what hurt the mafia the most was mich's note. That came at just the wrong time for them when people were really beginning to get suspicious of Jerry. If it had come even a day earlier, he probably could have sold the Natas claim more easily and bought the mafia some wiggle room. As it was, it just pretty much painted a big ol' target on Jerry and then anyone that tried to defend him and/or not vote for him.
