1. The librarian put the comic book on the shelf without reading it and considering what age it was appropriate for. Aren't there stickers that can go on books (Teen, Child, Adult, etc) to let people know who should be reading it or who it's aimed at? Why let a child check a book out when you don't know what's in it? EDIT: Mr_JTR reveals that there are such notices on this book, which were ignored by everyone involved. Tsk tsk.
2. The parent did not read the book before giving it to the child. This is just outright bad. That's the worst part of this whole thing. Who else can you blame for what your child sees and hears? Especially if you want the moral platform to complain from. "I let my child read whatever he wants, then make a fuss about it AFTERWORD!! What's wrong with that??"
3. The child should have kept his mouth shut - now he's got eleven years of Veggie Tales and Pollyanna to look forward to.
4. The media had a slow day and wanted a non-issue that they could inflate and sensationalize.
5. But clearly, and if you follow the chain of evidence and logic in my four posts above, we can squarely place the blame for this on Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.
6. This thread seems to really be chewing gristle. There's hardly any meat in this topic! We all agree with the 1st Amendment, and we all agree that there are a lot of people who could be better parents. Now if you really want something to debate - something that really makes you shake your head - do a search for the signs & notices that some parents stick up, asking people to use hand sanitizer before touching those people's baby. What's up with that.

Well, to be fair, the kid picked it up at the school library, so his mother probably didn't see it till it after kid had started reading it.

That's one really cool thing about living in Omaha; that wasn't a slow news day, it was just the regular news that gets reported.
On a related note - we've had about 5 days of news reltated to George Clooney being in town filming for 2 days. Some radio stations were giving hourly updates on "Clooney-watch".

I can beat that one. One day, EVERY news station in town had their top story as "Barry Switzer is retiring from coaching football." <sigh> Sometimes I wished I lived in the middle of a significant something so I'd get real news.

Trust me. That's better than constant murder, mugging, home invasion and rape stories. I actually long for slow news days, the more the better!
