i'm picking up countdown later today, once my shop opens... I'M SO EXCITED!!!
Have you seen the interview where Morrison talks about Final Crisis? At least that sounds to be a bit better than Countdown. AND it's going back to the Infinite Crisis "maxi-series" format instead of the weekly format. Which does have an interesting symmetry in that the past 4 years have been maxi series, weekly series, weekly series, maxi series.
So it seems like the "kill the fourth world" stuff is just building up to "Morrison recreates the fourth world". Which I guess makes up for the lack of any real cosmic "event" for Infinite Crisis. The started a new age of Magic ... and a bunch of people in space blew up a finger.
Also, it's just hilarious basically having Morrison talk about Galactus more than any DC character while hyping Final Crisis.

Countdown has been such a good book. It is one of the few issues I really look forward too every week. I guess I am surprised at how many people haven't liked it.
Hopefully it will be Morrison building the 5th world. I think Morrison is sometimes the Emperor Joker of comic book writers. He's great but the Joke gets old sometimes.
I just hope they don't revive all the New Gods. As much as I have the hots for Beatiful Dreamer I hope she & all the forever people remain deceased.
I am a huge New God Fan & death of the New God's has been both fantastic & heart wrenching.
Again I don't understand how people say they havn't liked Countdown. It is so much better then 52.
Blasphemy! The three volumes of 52 I checked out from my local library (What? I gots no money and my library is awesome) singlehandedly made me enjoy characters I'd never/barely even heard of (due to having no money and no comics) like Booster Gold, Steel, and Animal Man. It made me a Black Adam mark for Pete's sake. Now, if only my library would get the fourth TPB I'd be happy...

i gotta agree with Kaleesh here, Countdown has been the super-stains and Paul Dini is now the mayor of Stainsville. In one sweeping sweep, he's destroyed any credibility he used to have (in my eyes).
Act III begins with part one of “The Man Who Bought America”. I’ve been a little harsh on the last few issues of Captain America, what can I say, I hold these guys to a high standard. Let’s just be clear right off the bat then: this is a 5 Star book, hands down. It’s exponentially better than #35 and #36 for a number of reasons.
I am hoping that my plan to completely skip Countdown after the first month and be completely caught up by reading DC Universe 0 for 50 cents (on sale for 12 cents when I preordered online) in time for Final Crisis will work out.
Hmm. 152 dollars (91 if I preordered them) or 12 cents...
As the title suggests, this will not be your regularly scheduled review. I will rant, perhaps excessively, but within that rant you will find the popcorn kernel of an argument attempting to explode into your face! I will then present to the jury, empirical evidence in the form of scans from numerous Marvel comics from the last year or two to prove my theory. Including this issue of Hercules and this month’s Secret Invasion. My rant will be brutal and sometimes immature and hard to read. But, the argument I present is valid, and if you can look past the ridiculous fanboy ravings, you will see that I have a reasonable complaint and that Marvel editorial needs to sit up and take note.* Thus properly qualified, I begin my review/rant.
I love time travel stories. The Time Machine. Quantum Leap. Back to the Future. Timecop. Replay. Even The Man Who Folded Himself in all it’s sexual ambiguity. And I love Jason. Ever since his first book, Hey Wait, I’ve been in love with his style.
Let’s jump back to a couple of years ago: I’m working at my local comic shop. One day, a Wednesday, this new book hits the racks called “Runaways”. I’d read the blurb in Previews a few months back but decided against ordering it. I flipped through it that day, decided to rethink my earlier snap judgment and bought the book anyway. I took it home and read it. It was… okay. It was interesting enough to buy a second issue, at the very least. And so it continued for six months. By the seventh issue, I was so thoroughly bored by the title, that I actually sold the first seven back to the shop.
Seriously, does Darkseid seem the type to “chill”?
quoted from the read/rant blog!
Darkseid has even been known to show compassion. This was displayed in how he uses the omega effect to transport someone through out time & space rather then just obliterateing them. He did this with the forever people/ Infinity Man.
In the early issues of Jack Kirby's The New God's comic Darkseid didn't do anything but observe & watch from afar. He even goes so far as to try start a cult around Billion dollar Bates a buffon whom possessed the anti life equation on earth. Of course Darkseid had plans of his own but he is usually always behind the scenes. Even though most of his schemes were fouled up by some superhero it was usually not done directly to Darkseid himself.
Does this mean we should be getting a Concealed Darkseid someday?
While that may not be chilling exactly it isn't whatever the opposite of chilling is.
I guess I still stand as the lone fan of countdown. I actually like it even better then Infinite crisis which I found utterly confuseing. The characters seemed unusually foreign to me in that series. I found 52 the same way. The ending of 52 just completely threw me for a loop.
I thought countdown #2 was a great tribute to Jack Kirby. The end fight scene with darkside was epic.
I don't wanna spoil it for anyone yet.
as for countdown #4 I really hated Mary Marvel's Character after she turned bad again. It would have been better had she taken the power & then turned on Darkseid.
You can't blame Darkseid for watching Mary get undressed though.
As for Olson. I like the idea of him shacking up with a bug.
What more diabolical way could Darkseid shape the 5th world but through killing Jimmy Olson Superman's Pal?
I think this whole countdown series has been about prophecy & them being fullfilled.

I haven’t been posting a lot recently due to changing jobs and working overtime at my new position, but I got a DCBS order on Friday with 19 comics to devour, so you’ll hopefully be hearing a lot from me over the next two weeks, whether you want to or not. Ha! Now, let’s begin.
