In an effort to unofficially determine the best Heroclix team Gargantua and FlyingIcarus took 22 of Marvel and DC best's teams and had them face off. When the dust settled there were 11 winners added with the best performing loser for 12 teams total: Avengers, Batman Allies, Defenders, Fantastic Four, Injustice League, JSA, Legion, Masters of Evil, Sinister Syndicate, Titans, Ultimates and X-Men.
Volume 2 will reduce the group to 6.
Gargantua will take Defenders, Injustice League, JSA, Legion, Masters of Evil and Sinister Syndicate.
FlyingIcarus has Avengers, Batman Allies, the FF, Titans, Ultimates and X-Men.
ROUND 1: Sinister Syndicate squeak past the X-Men
ROUND 2: Legion of Super-Heroes soundly defeat the FF
ROUND 3: Avengers zapped the JSA into submission.
ROUND 4: Ultimates took charge over the Masters of Evil.
ROUND 5: Defenders vs. Batman Allies. A work in progress.
I was tempted to try The General last game, but not with all the Outwit available to the Batman Allies. I liked the way the team I ran worked out, but I still want to give The General a go, so my team will be:
The General U 176
Gorilla Grodd V 86
Weather Wizard E 42
Rolls are 5 & 7. You get map choice and first move. Reroll for Objects is a 7.
Hmmm...while I share your like of Gorilla Grodd (one of my favorite DC pieces to play) you seem to have a fascination with Weather Wizard that eludes me. Rockin' choice with the general.
It's kind of funny that Weather Wizard does keep showing up on my teams. I rarely play him normally. In this case, he's one of the few IL figures I could still afford after the other two, and well, he's better than Black Manta. At least he flies so I can use him as a taxi. Though if I had known you were going to take the park map, maybe I would have taken Manta, just on the off chance I might get some use out of his Aquatic movement!!
"The Titans?" Grodd ranted, "Bah! They can't even send the Justice League against us? Are we so insignificant a threat? Hmph. We'll show them. We'll tear these children limb from limb!"
"Personally, I'm just as happy not to have to be facing Superman," Weather Wizard admitted. "I'm always game for a shot at the Flash, but I'll readily admit the big blue boy scout's out of my league. No pun intended."
"Shut your holes, both of you," the General ordered. "We'll beat these Titans. And then we can use them as hostages. The League will have to do what we want, or we'll send them the junior division back to them piece by piece."
Grodd went into a sulk. He didn't like being ordered around, but like all bullies, he bowed readily when confronted with someone bigger and tougher, and this General was certainly that.
"Injustice League," groans Cyborg, "Looks like our work is cut out for us, guys."
"I don't recognize them, Cyborg," Jessie Quick says then asks, "Who are they?"
Hawk answers for Cyborg, "Their big gun is the General. Super tough and strong. Can hit at range too. Justice League have had real hard times with him."
"Please Hawk. He's all bark, I mean look at those teeth," Starfire adds, "It's that Gorilla Grodd that bugs me."
"Strength and mind control. A dangerous combination," Hawk says agreeing.
"Plus all that far really smells when he sweats" she says.
"Weather Wizard," Raven jumps in enigmatically, "He is what his name applies. Do not underestimate him, my friends, that is his real asset."
"We won't," Cyborg says, "Now let's get to work...carefully. We can do this but we have to be cautious."
"To meet this guy head on!" thinks Hawk. He knows the physical threat the General poses and rushes to confront him. The General laughs and charges at Hawk. The two men butt heads like two battering rams and, for the moment, neither is the worse for wear. Hawk knows it is but a temporary reprieve, his window to do some damage is closing...fast.
You do realize Cyborg's range is only 6 right? He can't hit anyone from C17.
Okay, since you've been so good as to come to me, The General will attack Hawk. AV12 on DV15, a 3 is all I need. Rolls an 8. 5 damage with CCE -1 for Hawk's Toughness means 4 damage to Hawk.
Whoops, didn't mean to post that just yet. Wasn't quite done.
Grodd's going to push to MC Starfire. AV10 on DV15. Needs a 5. Gets the 5. Raven can use her PC and I presume she will. Reroll is a 6.
Grodd will have Starfire turn her Starbolts on Raven herself. AV9 on DV16, she needs a 7. Gets an 11 for 4 clicks to Raven.
1 click to Grodd for the push.
The General @ H10
Gorilla Grodd @@ F10 (1 click w/LO)
Weather Wizard G9
"You're either very brave, sacrificing yourself to buy your friends time," the General said to Hawk, "or else you're immensely stupid. I'll give you the credit and assume you're brave. That doesn't mean that coming after me was also not the stupidest thing you've ever done."
He reached out with his gigantic hand and grabbed Hawk by the head. He lifted him one-armed, high into the air and then threw him to the ground with enough force to crack bones.
Grodd watched the General with relish, and couldn't wait for his share of the action.
"You're mine, woman," Grodd slavered reaching out for Starfire's mind "mine to play with." Starfire turned and glared at Raven.
"Kori, no!" Raven whispered trying to use her empathic powers to counteract Grodd's mind control, but she was too slow. Even as she tried to restore her friend, Starfire struck with a devastating starbolt.
The Titans let out a collective gasp. Only by retreating into her soul self was Raven able to survive the blast.
