Welcome to the Parlor -- Marvel FanForces' Sue Storm
Welcome to Part 2 (of 5) of "This Old FF" where we build the New Young Fantastic Four. Since the combined point values of the Veteran FFers from Clobberin' Time is a Perfect 400, we're going to follow suit and build a 400-point FF team (Part 1 was Johnny Storm). What do people see in the bronze Limited Edition/Super Rare Sue Storm that makes her one of the most sought after LEs in Fantastic Forces?
The review is broken up into two parts:
How well the figure does what it is supposed to do.
How the figure compares to the REVs.
"Type" tells you how the LE ranks compared to the REVs. "+" means "better than", "-" means "not as good as", and "~" means "a variation of". Sue Storm
Fantastic Forces #205, 49 points
Range: 6
Targets: 1
Team Affiliation: Fantastic Four
Based on: Invisible Woman
Type: E+
How well the figure does what it is supposed to do.
Sue has lots of features worth mentioning, so I'll start with the most obvious and move on to the overshadowed facts of her dial.
MOST OBVIOUS: Sue has a 19 defense. Although certainly not the first, last, or cheapest with a 19 defense, Sue has the Fantastic Four team ability (FF TA) that, combined with the Fantastic Four feat card, gives her the Alternate FF TA where any FFers (or Wildcards) can replace their defense value with her 19. This reason all by itself is what makes Sue so desirable.
NOT AS OBVIOUS: There are very few figs with both flying and Stealth. A few nasty tricks for flying stealthers are carrying in a figure and protecting it for a turn (the next turn, the figure Charges, does a Running Shot, gets smack happy with Hypersonic Speed, uses Telekinesis, or so many other possibilities), flying past enemy figures and blocking LOF for Perplex or hindering Support, and carrying a fellow Stealther in order to create more squares of LOF-blocking terrain.
AND FINALLY: Barrier. With four clicks of the stuff and a 6 range, you should be able to crimp your opponent in some fairly effective ways like protecting your own figures, blocking LOF, trapping opponents, and limiting escape routes. On Sue's last 3 clicks a.k.a second half of her dial, she has some Incapacitate that might come in handy though her 7 & 6 Attack Value (AV) mean that you're probably trying to roll an 8 or better. The first Incapacitate click is combined with Stealth while the second occurs in tandem with Energy/Shield Deflection (ESD) and a 15 defense (which means that your opponent is likely trying to hit an 18 defense at range).
ONLY FOR THE EVIL: Ingredients--Sue and hockey puck Invisible Woman from Critical Mass. (For Unrestricted games, feel free to use Clobberin' Time EV Invisible Woman in place of Sue and R Invisible Girl in place of the hockey puck.) With the Alternate FF TA, Sue replaces hockey puck's 18 defense with a 19. Hockey puck is then able to share, via Defend, her 19 defense with anyone adjacent to her.
Is Sue worth playing? Yes Rating: 9/10 Stars
How the figure compares to the REVs.
For two points more than the Experienced, Sue picks up an extra click of Stealth which keeps her Stealthy all throughout her Barrier clicks, a higher starting AV, better defense values overall, and flight. She does drop from a base 2 damage to a base 1 one click earlier, but who cares! Everything else for two points is awesome! What practically makes Sue a V+ is Sue's defense of 19 vs the Veteran's 18! (Of course, the 19 is most important to those who are using the Alternate FF feat; even if you're not using it, a 19 can be a lot harder to hit than an 18.) It can be argued that outside of Sue's first click, the Veteran is better. The Veteran certainly has more staying power, but when it comes to what you're going to use her for, Sue easily outshines the Veteran simply due to the large point difference. Personally, I'll never play with either the Experienced or the Veteran when Sue's an option.
This is probably the first figure that I would give 11/10 stars on. Sue is definitely joining our line-up.
With respect to the REVs, is Sue worth getting? Flippin' Yeah! Rating: 10/10 Stars
Relevant Battlefield Conditions and Feats Darkness/Deep Shadows – Sue already has a range of 6 and Deep Shadows gives her Stealth even more freedom. Force Field – With a full dial of Barrier and ESD, 10 points is not a lot pay for six clicks of Toughness. Fantastic Four – Let others feel the love of a 19 defense.
New Young Fantastic Four -- The Roster
1) V Human Torch... 102 points
2) LE Sue Storm..... 49 points
3)
4)

I've been saying "He who dares, wins" recently at my tournaments right before I do something crazy. Whether the attempt works or not doesn't matter; I didn't debate my actions for five minutes and my opponents tend to crack up.
Sue Storm is insanely good with the new FF team ability. I really like how, with her, the Fantastic Four become a tournament worthy theme team. It's kinda too bad that wildcards can copy it too, since that loses the theme. Oh well, now I just need to get her and the FF card.
Oh, and that strategy with the hockey puck Invisible Woman is so good it should be unpostable.
So? Exp Gotham Undercover has a Wing symbol despite the lack of a flight base, and he doesn't fly.
Good point. Another prime example is the Ororo Munroe LE from Ultimates who was in the same situation, but WK made it right with an errata on the Marvel FAQ.
If WK wants to make people happy, they will errata her to fly. If they want to piss people off by making her less effective, then they will errata her to not be a flyer.
And I am just repeating what I heard from a local judge who sometimes has a heads-up on these sorts of things. He made no absolute statement, and it didn't sound like it was settled.
She was in the first pack I opened. I just about soiled myself in joy. the whole day I played her and laughed every time that she would take on people and they would need to roll a 12 just to hit her
