OK, the judge at my venue came up with some "interesting" rulings tonight. The issue is movement over or past another figure. Two examples were contested by everyone there, all disagreeing with this Judge. Here they are.......
We were playing a scenario where a Galactus (in somewhat of a scenario-mode, modified by the Judge)+all four of his heralds (Silver Surfer, Firelord, Nova, and Terrax) were against several players all attempting to do the most damage to this force. Here is where the problem arose:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxwxxxxxxxxxx x=empty space
xxxxgggggggggxxxx g=Galactus
xxxxgggggggggxxxx w=Wonder Man
xxxxgggggggggxxxx
xxxxxxxwxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
w=wonderman's starting space, player wanted to fly to the other "w" in this chart (doesnt matter which w is starting/finish space)
The Judge says that this cannot be done because Galactus "owns" the spaces he occupies and you are unable to fly "through" the spaces, even though Wonderman had plenty of movement to cross this area of Galactus' "footprint". He claims you would need to soar "over" Big G to get there or go around.
It gets even more bizarre for us when I give him an example of another situation like this:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxWSWxxxxxxxxx W on the left=Wonderman starting space
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx S=Spidey
W on the right is where Wonderman ends his
move (for purposes of my example,
Wonderman has only a 2 movement speed
w/flight)
He claims that Wonderman cannot do this. That he cannot "fly" over Spidey to end in the target space. WTF?! We all were very surprised by this and couldn't believe he was saying this.
No where, and I mean no where, can I find a rule supporting this opinion. In the hovering section of the rules it states: "Hovering characters can move over outdoor blocking terrrain without changing flight mode". If they can do this, what would stop them from blowing right by Galactus?
"A hovering character may ignore the effects of opposing characters and hindering terrain on movement". Isn't this enough? What am I missing here?
Also, there is nothing in the Galactus rules to indicate this "I own this space! None shall pass!" ruling. Nor in the Big Fig section or Giant rules.
No where in the Blocking Terrain section is there anything about this.
I have been playing this game since it came out and have been playing in weekly tournies for almost a year. I have never seen this ever in any game I've played all this time. I may be wrong in this and I'm sure the HCRealmers will let me know , but that's why I'm posting this. Help a brother out and set me or this Judge straight! Thanks.
Hey, Bill!
You are right and that judge was nutty. As long as the flying character who is adjacent rolls breakaway, they can move anywhere, even through the square of an opposing figure, and if they are not adjacent to begin with, same thing.
You would think if you had the rules handy you could just point out that "hovering character ignores" bit in the book, it's pretty clear I think.
Besides, people aren't going to fly through the legs of Galactus?!? Just, you know, if they are curious???
but what if they were indoors and the big g was in a hallway then would they have to go around or can he someway hover over him i think no. because once in the venue the judge let someone's blackadam carrying a medic fly though me when i said but we are on a indoor map in a hall so blocking terrian on both side of me how can he fly trhogh me answer he his hypersonic speed but i still think he was wrong.
UltraSuperGuy!
"Opposing characters always secceed at breaking away from Galactus". So you can throw a dice if you want, and 1-6 will be successful.
RedDragon, I don't think there is a special limitation to this 'throughflying' even though you are on an indoor map. Only similar thing I can recall is that you can't hover on top of indoor blocking terrain. It goes all the way up to the roof.

Yes, you can fly through an opposing figure no matter what kind of map. If you are adjacent to him or other enemies at the beginning of your turn you need to breakaway(and in Galactus' case that is always successful). If you carry someone with you then they get past the opposing figure along with you as well.
At least that's how I understand the rules.

I have had this judge before, and he is the epitomy of evil judges. I can't handle it. NRadd59, I feel for ya man. I say it is time to bring down the evil that has plagued our humble venue. To all Air Trafficers out there, join the APL. But, back to the ruling, it's bogus. The judge is nuts. See ya Tuesday.
