“I Remember… detective,” Ra’s said in a nostalgic tone. “How barbaric things were when I was born. It was the height of the Persian Era - 518 BC.”

Everyone recoiled at the revelation except for Batman who just stared Ra’s down while showing no emotion.

“I wanted nothing more than to study the great sciences,” Ra’s continued. “However…you see, I was born to a nomadic tribe. They wandered the deserts, striking at Persian cities and then retreating to a secret Oasis that was known only to our clan. It was on my 16th Birthday that I got permission from my uncle to leave the tribe and to live in one of the cities. I‘ve long forgotten it‘s name, really - as has history itself. There, I studied medicine and became a doctor. I discovered the existence of germs 565 years before Galen and 2,376 years before Pasteur and his ‘modern germ theory.’”

“In doing so, I became the personal physician of the city’s ruler. I married a woman named Sora and lived happily, for a time. I thought it was all one could wish for. I was wrong.”

“One day while walking through the desert, I fell into a sinkhole and found the Lazarus Pit; an amazing and naturally-occurring spring of a green mixture which I’ve yet to fully discover how to manufacture. It not only regenerates all wounds, but it reverses aging itself by regenerating natural damage to the Mitochondria! In essence, the Lazarus Pit returns you to your peak age! Afterwards, it leaves you mad for a shirt period of time as your brain copes with it‘s newfound recharging, but I think you could agree that this is a trifling price to pay - this was Ponce de Leon’s fountain of youth nearly a millennia before he would be born.”

“One day, the ruler’s son became deathly ill. Nothing even I could do would save him. I decided I must use the Lazarus Pit - I felt I owed the ruler that much. He was almost at his peak age, so nobody would have known the difference in him when he rose renewed. I was foolish, however. When he emerged, he strangled my Sora to death before I could stop him.”

“When I explained myself to the Ruler he was angry. He would not believe that his son would do such a thing and he accused me of strangling her! He sentenced me to be buried alive. And so I was. I would not have survived had it not been for a young boy. He came to me as I had come to him long before, to ease his mother’s passage into the afterlife. He dug me up… and so I went back to the desert and plotted my revenge. I sent the Prince robes covered in germs of a deadly illness. When he became sick, I gave word of my survival.”

“The Ruler begged for me to cure his son. I told him I would do so if he and his son came alone and begged for forgiveness. When they arrived at my camp, I killed them. Then I convinced my Uncle to sack the city I once called home and kill all of the inhabitants.”

“All inhabitants save the young boy who had saved my life.”
