“What?” Batman said confused.

“You shall be my heir, should any tragedy befall me,” Ra’s Al Ghul said. “I once fancied the young boy who saved my life as my heir, but even he betrayed me in the end. He kept a written record of our accounts throughout the years, even though I forbade it. So I was forced to kill him. Think about it, Detective - if word got out about us and the Lazarus pit, it would be disastrous. If mankind got hold of it… they would push the natural order beyond the breaking point. Since I killed him, I have been looking for a new heir. For hundreds of years none have proven worthy, until you came along.”

Batman stood stock still, betraying no emotion as Ra’s continued. “My daughter Talia was assigned to that base you took down in the mountains some months ago. She was assigned to work for Deathstroke, the so called ‘Kingpin.’ Then when you invaded… she was simply waiting for the right time to strike. Somewhere while watching you move, you won her heart and proved yourself to her. She called me and I called off my hired assassins. Had she not, Detective, you and your compatriots would likely be dead now. Something about you caught her eye… so I decided to test you.” Ra’s stood up and walked towards Batman. “Congratulations; you’ve passed.”

Batman simply grunted as Talia walked up to him as well and wrapped her arms around his neck in an embrace. “If you join with me, Detective, you will have the power to take revenge on the one who murdered your parents and much more. You could rid the world of crime! Not just this godforsaken city.”

“By wiping out humanity,” Batman said angrily as he took Talia firmly by the shoulders and held her away.

Ra’s waved his hand dismissively. “Simply controlling the population, nothing more. Just like any forest ranger might do should a swarm of termites grow too large and threaten to destroy a forest.”

Robin had heard enough and held his tongue for too long. “You compare the deaths of millions - billions, even - to pest control?” he challenged, at first feeling proud for standing up to the madman before a look from Batman made him feel more ashamed then anything else. It was a look that told him to keep his wits about him and look out for danger.

The Demon’s Head simply replied in a matter of fact way. “People are worse than bugs, child. Bugs serve their function in the circle of life. Men pervert the balance of nature, deeming themselves more important than the planet that nurtures and sustains them. Stay out of the affairs of men… boy. You clearly cannot comprehend such matters.” Ra’s turned back to Batman, then. “What do you say, Detective - will you join me?”

“No.”

“Do you realize what you are turning down?”

“Yes. I will not be a party to mass murder, no matter how easily you try to twist the truth to suit your perverted ideology.”

“Foolish… though you are not a fool. So you already know, no doubt, that I cannot let you leave here alive,” Ra’s said, unsheathing a sword at his waist as Talia backed off and pulled a gun hesitantly.

“No, daughter,” Ra’s said, waving her away. “Your heart is not in this battle. You would be more a burden then a help. Withdraw.” Talia left the room. Ra’s snapped his fingers on his free hand and three bodyguards entered the room.

“En Garde, Detective.”

It's cool. That's how the dice roll. Man I've gotta learn not to put your big guy out in the front in the very beginning. Geez...happened at a tourney recently and put KC GL out there thinking his high defense would be okay...nope...first attack hit and it went downhill from there.... it's all about luck...but hey, it's good for you... this is gonna be a pretty quick game....
