I've really enjoyed playing Ares in Heroclix and love the piece. However I am not very familiar with him in comics so could someone fill me in on some of his accomplishments in the comic book universe. How has he showed off his awesome power. Also would anyone recommend certain comic issues for me too buy that feature Ares? I'm not sure where to start with the God of War!
I haven't had a lot of exposure to Ares myself. The only times I've read him, have been in the current Teen Titans series, pre-Infinit Crisis. He has monitored Wonder Girl (Cassie), and even gave her her lasso.
Here's an article on Wikipedia about the God of War, as he appears in the DCU. Hope it helps:
Thanks Darth. That sites a good start, but still doesn't quite get detailed enough into his power level (like comparing to Wonder Woman's or telling what happened in their battles).
If you want a really good Ares tale, you should check out the Marvel mini-series of that name. It was just completed and I'm sure a tpb will be out soon.
Thanks, but no thanks . This time I'm sticking with DC.
I claim loyalty to none, instead I read good stuff from any company, but hey, that's just me. If you wanna find some dc Ares stuff outside of Wonder Woman, you might have a hard time, but I wish you luck. I think he had some relevance in George Perez's run on WW, and maybe some more in some Teen Titans issues regarding Wondergirl Cassie, but I don't know specific issues, sorry.
I'm not sure, but I don't think there was ever a knock down drag out with him in the Perez run (where he was most prominent). He, like the other Gods, more or less just pulled a lot of strings behind the scenes. Even in "War of the Gods", the Gods themselves didn't do a heck of a lot. I thinkin the Rucka run he lost the helmet and got even "schemier" but I'm not sure (I avoided the Rucka run like the plague, being on eof the few who hated his view of WW).
Thanks for all the help guys. And I actually am more of a Marvel guy, but of coarse DC and Darkhorse have a lot of great stuff so I buy from all different companies.
yeah Ares almost always shows up in his appearances in Wonder Woman, and even then he shows up rarely. If you want to find a lot with him look for the Wonder Woman's post Crisis on Infinite Earth where he was *created*, he shows up the most there near the beginning of Vol 2.
