I'm asking a lot of questions today. I just registered recently.

Anyway...for Allen the Alien, I think I have an understanding of how to use him properly but i want to make sure.

True or False:
1. I can make it so grounded chars can't used ranged combat against him simply by carrying a nonflyer and dropping them adjacent to the same grounded char as Allen ends up next to. The opposing char can then only use close combat but can choose to attack either the person Allen carried or Allen himself.
2. I have no way of preventing another flyer from using ranged combat on Allen even with a non flyer being there.

2. False. If two characters are on the diagonal it blocks line of fire.

1. Correct.
2. If you have Allen on a diagonal, flanked by two characters who are also adjacent to said flier...then he has to be close-combat attacked.

2) True (unless he gains Earthbound via something like a Swingline attack or is blocked or something)

ah yes, the dreaded diagonal. That may help Allen's usefullness. Although it's a pain explaining these things to some of the people at my venue. I had a hard enough time convincing people you could do range attacks from adjacency at all. Now I have to try to explain all the exceptions to the rule. It's usually just easier to try and avoid bringing up situations like this at tournaments and saving it for friendly at home games.

Actually, I find it easier to ignore in friendly games.

In tournaments where everything's supposed to be by the book and a prize is at stake? I'm borderline rules lawyer.

Crosswinds BFC and being in the Aerial Baffler's AoE also help that strategy. Provided they don't hurt your team in other ways.
