Question about Doomsdays Special Power-Unstoppable
When this figure was first released everyone was going NUTS over unstoppable and what a great special power it is. However, I have been thinking about it and I think some people are assuming you can use UNSTOPPABLE on the very first click.
Doesn't a special power have to be showing on the dial BEFORE you can actually use it?!?
So assume Doomsday gets hit for 5 damage. After Invulnerability he takes 3 damage. He didn't have the unstoppable power when he took the damage. As far as I know there is no game effect that lets you use powers that are on your dial in the middle of taking damage. So why should Doomsday possess this power BEFORE it shows on his dial?
In my example Doomsday takes 3 damage and should blow right past the special power, right?
In order to avoid Unstoppable again you would have to deal 4 or 6 damage to miss the special power and then your in the clear.
It seems to me that the only way you could use the power is if you are lucky enough (or your opponent is foolish enough) to land exactly on the special power clix.
This special power is VERY confusing and I just don't get it.
Can anyone explain? PLEASE HELP!

The special power states that as soon as it shows up while taking damage, you stop taking damage.
What's so hard to understand about that? If a power says it doesn't follow the normal rules, then you do what the power says. Nobody has ever said "Well, leap/climb says I don't have to break away, but the rules say I do." "Flurry says I can attack twice, but the rules say I only get one attack per action." But -everyone- seems to say "The power says it works if I click onto it while taking damage, but the rules say the power has to be showing to work."
Unstoppable works as written. If you take damage, and Unstoppable shows up, no matter what was showing before, YOU STOP TAKING DAMAGE.
Okay maybe I am just a glutton for punishment but I re-read the card a third time and here is what confused me:
If you don't have the power showing (and don't possess it) you never even get to the point where your read or apply the special power effects.
Remember, Unstoppable shows twice on the dial so it COULD have been meant to come into effect when you land on that power preventing you from getting hit for more than 4 clicks of damage (after invulnerability).
I guess that does seem unlikely, but it is arguable.
THATS what confused me.
There is still nothing on the card that says you get to possess the power on the dial BEFORE it shows IF they meant to make it only for specific use I listed above.
Does anyone else agree or see my point?

No
This is very simple: It says that when you see this power, stop turning
See, it works only when it is showing, just like normal powers. You are merrily turning for umpteen clicks and two clicks in you see a white box, stop turning
What is so hard to understand?
Gah, this reminds me of the three stooges short where Moe holds a spike and tells the other stooge, while holding the spike, "when I nod my head, you hit it". He nods his head and the other stooge promptly wallops him on the head.
HIT THE SPIKE!
Yes, you can easily Outwit it when it is showing. If, while turning, you run into it again, it remains outwitted and you blow past it, just like any other power
I wouldn't call it "broken". I would call it what it is: A USEFUL Special Power, which actually suits the character. For a character at such a high cost, accused of being too "slow" to actually take on similarly priced characters (well, mostly unbalanced ones like the old Icons V Superman and others that are themselves badly made), having a power that actually makes it impossible to be killed by a one-two shot is quite fine, I think. He will NEED this power if he faces the kind of characters people assume he's supposed to fight.
This is Doomsday. I wouldn't find him very impressive if he could be taken out by 1-2 attacks from Superman or Magog or some other powerhouse. Even with the new rulings on objects and Super Strength (vs the rule of 3), it's still too easy to smack most grounded brick types into the floor. Doomsday's Special Power tries to adress this, and in doing so, it contributes something good to the character.
Just because the second part of the power says "when you take damage stop clixing when you get to UNSTOPPABLE" how do you even get that far if you don't possess the power yet?
Its doesn't say anywhere on the card that the power applies if it isn't showing.
IT COULD mean once you get the power you then apply the rules listed.
Keep in mind its shows twice on the dial.
In terms of order of operation how can you even get to the point where you are reading the terms and conditions of a power your figure doesn't even have yet?!?
If they intended the power to work as you describe why doesn't he have the special power on the first clix?

Because it's a newer mechanic. Something unique.
How are you proposing it works, again?
"I love man for all the potential that he holds, and hate men for how seldom they live up to it"
I think I am finally convinced that it works how everyone says it works.
I guess I am most upset with the poor wording on this and other special powers.
I was thinking maybe you needed to land on the special power before it kicked in. That would be useful (but not as useful as if you have the power right from the start).
I am still waiting to hear from the rules arbitrator on the issue but I am ready to concede defeat at this point (unless the rules arbitrator agrees with me :-P)
I just wish they would take more time wording the cards and special powers to avoid confusion.
Can you imagine being a new player and having to deal with all this madness???

Poor wording? On unstoppable? This is one of the most clear powers there is. I wish people would stop overcomplicating things (often looking for exploitable loopholes) and maybe we wouldn't have so many FAQs.
All it needs is a SIMPLE phrase indicating this power is always in effect.
But it isn't!
Let's say DD took 4 damage on his first click. When you are merrily clicking the dial from the first click to the second, you don't stop. The second to the third, you don't stop. Why? Because he took 2 damage (assuming non-penetrating here)
If I told you that you should not play with matches around gasoline, are you going to assume that you should play with them when you are not?
How about this: When this power appears in the stat slot, stop turning the dial, no matter how much further you think you have to go. Go do something else. Never mind that you are not done turning it. JUST STOP.
