I successfully taught 3 new folks the game last night, and we first did two 1 on 1 matches, and then a team game, 2 alliance, 2 horde. A couple situations came up, and I made quickie rulings, but wanted to doublecheck..
1. I and a partner were Alliance. She had gotten a Lady Courtney in play, and 2 Kena Shadowbrand, and was tapping the 2 Kena's and then Courtney to heal.. nice card drawing engine going.. She wanted to know if every time she tapped Lady Courtney, she healed her folks, and *I* also healed, cause I was her partner/ally in the game.
I ruled that Lady Courtney only healed cards she controlled, not the entire team.
2. Horde player had a Besh'iah in play, with the ability "Destroy an ally in your party >>> Destroy target ability.", and 2 allies that had been Polymorphed into sheep. His Hero was targeted by a Fireball, and he wanted to be able to throw a sheep to Besh'iah and have her destroy the incoming Fireball.
I ruled that since the Ability Fireball had not yet resolved, it was not a valid target to be destroyed, and when it had been resolved, it would no longer be a valid target... pretty much said that Besh'iah was not a "counterspell" engine..
3. The next turn, Besh'iah herself was a Fireball target, and since she is only 4 health, she will die. The player wanted to sac Besh'iah to herself, to destroy a Mana Agate that was sitting on the Mage.
I ruled that this was a good use of Besh'iah's power, and allowed it. The Mage then paid a resource, and sacc'ed the Agate to draw 2 cards, before Besh'iah's ability resolved on the stack. Thus, by ruling of the chain, the Mana Agate resolved, the Mage Drew 2 card, Besh'iah's sacrifice of herself had no target, thus fizzling, and the Fireball killed her. Is this correct?
1. not sure, did they release multiplayer rulings yet?
2. you can't use Besh'iah to "counter" the fireball but once it does the 4 damage and becomes an attached ongoing ability you could sac the sheep to destroy it
3. nope it's not correct. you can sac besh'iah to herself by the card wording. but the chain would go something like this.
sac mana agate to draw 2, besh'iah sacrifices self to destroy agate but it fizzled, but this is where it's off. Besh'ish dies regardless because you destroyed her as the casting cost, just because the target is gone and her ability fizzles doesn't keep her alive. so now that she's dead from fizzling, the fireball itself fizzles because it's target is gone. same end result, but different reasons why.
You are correct, happytonamy.. that is what happened.. Besh'iah sacced herself to destroy Mana Agate, which was gone by that point in the chain, so she ended up saccing herself for the heck of it.. and then the Fireball fizzled when it got to where besh'iah used to be..
I had my memory altered, I guess... darn warlocks..
Party (411.7a): A player’s hero, allies, and totems are collectively called his or her party. There is no limit to the size of each party.
Quote
Lady Courtney Noel, 3, Alliance (Azeroth-194C)
Ally—Human Priest, 1 ATK (Holy), 4 Health
[Activate] >>> Lady Courtney Noel heals 1 damage from each hero and ally in your party.
Lady Courtney will only affect characters in her controllers party - allies and hero controlled by the player who controlls Courtney. All other friendly allies are not considered part of YOUR party. They can be affected by other cards referencing friedly targets though, the onlyxia loot pacs have a lot of "friendly" oriented cards designed for multiplayer games.
An example from HOA:
Cleanse, 1, Paladin (Azeroth-65U)
Instant Ability—Holy
Destroy any number of abilities attached to target friendly hero or ally.
When i went to Gencon the only thing you could do for other players that are on your team is protect them. Also YOU CANNOT protect for an opponent(Gurubashi Arena) the judges stated this at GenCon also.
Oh about the Mana Agate how was it used before Besh'iah sacced to destroy it but also used before on the chain?
