The book I am referring to is Secret Six. Not a lot of people read it or even know about it, but it is really a great comic. Gail Simone writes some excellent stories about a group of second string villains who are pretty much out for themselves. The group consists of Catman, Ragdoll, Scandal Savage, Deadshot, Bane and the newly added Jeannette. The artwork by Nicola Scott is stellar along with Doug Hazlewood's inking. The artwork alone should be a reason for people to buy this book.
I started reading about this group when they came together in the Villians United mini series and then in their own Secret Six mini series and now into their own ongoing. I really can't praise this book enough. I didn't start the ongoing when it came out and just went back and bought the first seven issues. I was blown away by Scott and Hazlewood's artwork from page one. Their attention to detail is amazing and this is how a comic should be drawn. The best part is that they can also get a monthly book out on time unlike other so called "superstar" artists. Gail Simone is an excellent writer. I don't really agree with her current characterization of Bane, but I am hoping there is an underlying reason she writes him that way at the moment. This is just a great book about a group of rag-tag villains who get into some unique situations in which they are generally out gunned and out muscled. Usually, they escape with cuts and broken bones, but sometimes they end up needing a new member after it is all said and done. I highly recomend that you give this book a try. I think you will be pleasently surprised like I was.
The last issue with "You can't kill anyone tonight" night out was fun, including the Ragdoll ridealong comic.
Unfortunately, I missed issue #8. The store ran out because only four people there buy it. It shouldn't be too hard to track down though. I am just very surprised that more people do not pick it up.
I too am a big fan of this book. I've been reading since the beginning (back when it was just an Infinite crisis mini) and will continue to read it until it sucks.

I'm reading it, and loving it. It's about the only DC title I pick up actually.
For those curious, the sales of Secret Six are stable, but quite low. It's not amongst the bottom with Jonah Hex, but it's in that very precarious position where a sharp drop would probably get it axed. Thankfully, this book seems to have some very loyal fans, so it manages to stay rock steady. I just hope everyone reading it encourages everyone else they know to pick it up. It's really just a fun, irreverent comic, and I can't imagine many people not enjoying it. Unless you hate having a good time, and if so, I would like to direct you towards the Jeph Loeb section of the comic shop.

That's really interesting because my shop orders very few copies of it, and it sells out every time. I've had to add it to my pull list just to be able to get a copy (and I still haven't been able to get issues 7 & 8).
I'm just curious as to why shops are under-ordering this title as it seems to be a sell-out at every shop I visit. Is it piling up elsewhere?
If we had to lose Gail Simone from Birds of Prey, at least we get her on Secret Six.
That book may be the best thing I'm reading from DC right now. The double date issue was pure joy.

When our story opens, the Question is investigating an impossible locked-room murder mystery involving a midget and a 6'6"-tall call girl into heavy bondage. Don't worry, I'll explain later. It's all vitally relevant.

You know, I've seen the same sorta thing. I had to go to seven different comic shops to track down #8 after I missed out on getting my comics for two weeks. It certainly doesn't sit on shelves for long, so I'm curious as to why most places don't order more copies.
i too enjoy and have been getting secret six all along...was why i modded a scandal (and a never-got -around-to-painting-it ragdoll) way back when....
Gail is great...if you want a book that a lot of folks REALLY haven't heard about by her, check out "welcome to tranquility" about a small town where all of the old superheroes and pulp heroes retired. its not a current book, so youd have to track down back issues or (i believe there was) a collection, also last i knew she was planning to do more at some point soonish.
Love this series. Gail simone is awesome. Anything that breathes new life into Bane is okay with me. She also made me interested in Rag Doll who used to seem like such a nothing character. I said if before and will say it again. There are no bad characters, just bad writers!
