DCU Releases for the week of 8/1/09-8/7/09 (Spoil The Comics, Spare No Rod)
:cross-eye
DOOM PATROL #1 - Comics' original misfit team is back with a new series by Giffen and DeMatteis.
JUSTICE LEAGUE - Cry For Justice #2 (OF 7) - In this tough new world, a new Justice League is forming. One that will take the fight to the real villains of the DCU
Red Circle - THE HANGMAN #1 - Get the origin of the Hangman in the new jump on point written by JMS.
SECRET SIX #12 - The Secret Six are torn down the middle by the job their paid to do and joining Artemis in her mission to overthrow an incredible evil. There's bad guys, worse guys, and then there's the Secret Six.
SUPERMAN - World Of New Krypton #6 (OF 12) Codename Patriot (Pt 1) - The latest crossover within the Superman titles begins here.
There has to be more then 5 DC books this week? But from the small list the only one I'm picking up is the Justice League book.
More releases, yes, but no info for me to put into them. Just wait, I'm sure St Dumas will swoop in and toss out a few extras. Then there are other people who do the same thing, but we like to single out St Dumas, makes him think that we're all watching him. He wouldn't be paranoid if we all weren't watching him.

...now, if we can just get Professor Pyg confirmed.
"And now you know, princess. What that moment is like, when someone makes you lower than the lowest animal."
As Wonder Woman arrives on Prison Island, she gets into a fight with Jeanette. Just when it looks like she has the upper hand, Jeanette pulls her trump card: she turns into a banshee. She recounts the moment she became a banshee, forcing the torturous experience into the mind of her opponent. She faints afterwards.
Jeanette, Scandal and Bane run away with the still-living body of Artemis while Ragdoll, Catman and Deadshot hang around. As the first three are about to be ambushed by guards, Artemis wakes up and takes them out, then goes on a warpath against the rest of them.
The second three, meanwhile, travel to the "ninth circle" of the prison and find the Devil, chained and hungry.
An average issue, which for this series means it's still a league above other series. Seeing more of Jeanette is cool, as well as seeing Artemis kick ###. And Scott's artwork is still great.
Doom Patrol #1
Story: 3/5
Art: 4/5
Leslie: How old was she? Eighteen? Nineteen?
Cliff: Old enough to know better.
Leslie: That's pretty cold, Cliff.
Cliff: I'm a robot. Deal with it.
We begin with the Doom Patrol (Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Woman, Nudge and Grunt) infiltrating a weird monster facility on Oolong Island. They are confronted by Dr. Amanda Beckett, who is also a weird monster. As the team escapes, soldiers arrive and kill Nudge. Grunt (who's a gorilla, btw) runs away with her body while the rest of the team escapes in their own helicoptor.
Back at home base, the team deals with the stress of losing one of their own in their own ways; Rita has lunch with local priest Father Leslie then talks things over with Bumblebee, Larry ignores him to play video games, and Cliff just ignores him. Afterwards, a scientist contacts the Chief and asks for help in dealing with a sentient black hole.
Weirdness abounds, which I can only assume is standard Doom Patrol fare. However, it's tough to get a feel for these characters when all they do is bury whatever grief they have and ignore the only hand reaching out to them. Artwork's okay, too.
In the Metal Men backup, everyone's favorite human-like robots fight off a giant magical monolith. They bicker, but the voices seem different than I remember. Regardless, they spend time afterwards hanging around the Magnus mansion (including a funny scene where Tina prepositions Will) and watch a TV series called "Douglas, Robot Hunter", which will feature in the next issue.
Again, I'm confused as to the differences in voices. But it was a fun ride. Looking forward to the next one.
slow DC week for me, JL Cry for Justice #2 and Wednsday Comics - This is the first week in A while where Marvel has outnumbered DC for my pulls.
Have not read Wednesday comics yet but just finished Cry For Justice and although I've heard people saying the story is slow, I've really liked it, The dialogue is pretty decent and the psych of the characters is done very well I think, The art is amazing in this especially the rooftop scene in Gotham and the scene downtown.
Greek Street #2 Well, that's one way to do a recap (having a stripper taking a bath while recounting the events of last issue)! The stories all start flowing a bit better in this issue, Eddie tries to cut his ... err... "Grayson" off out of guilt for what he did to his mother. The Fureys are in turmoil after the mutilation of one of their own. Mysterious things happen to the body from last week. Lord Menon is being set up. And Daedalus seems caught in the middle of it all. Whew, what a crazy issue!
Secret Six #12 Wonder Woman starts to take apart the Six, until Jeanette unleashes her Banshee cry, turning the tables. While the anti-slaver faction (Jeanette, Scandal and Bane) escapes with Artemis, the pro-slavers (Deadshot, Ragdoll and Catman) deliver the body of Wonder Woman to their employers as a make good for the trouble they caused. They deliver it to the "Devil" chained at the bottom of their prison, for a nice Amazonian snack. Anyone recognise who the "Devil" is supposed to be?
Wednesday Comics Lots of fun action. Even Wonder Woman was good this time out. Fun stuff happens in Metamorpho, Kamandi gets captured and Hawkman "catches a plane". Superman is a little slow still.
