Clixcast Episode 33: Top 5 RCE for Real!
This week Steve and Gudda talk about their Top 5 picks for RCE for real this time. This conversation leads to some more interesting conversation and there is a blooper reel!
Love the discussion, but I feel there are a few RCE pieces that you missed:
Vet Nebula 76 pts, 10 range, 2 targets with 3 clicks of RCE matched with Incapacitate and Mastermind. Trickshot her so she can see through her bodyguard (in the day, i was using Logan quite a bit) and she can dish damage or Incap almost anyone with her starting 11 AV.
U Phoenix Ultimates At 86 pts, 8 range, 2 targets. She gives me the same feel as Nebula, but relying on Super Sesnse to keep her safe. Only thing I don't understand about her is the "past" keyword. Isn't she from the future? Love the trickshot on her that allows her to attack with Psy-blasts or RCE depending on need.
Unleashed Vet Green Lantern Seven clicks of RCE didn't make your list? Back in the day he was the original tent pole that could cart around his own Enhancers, PCer, and Defend piece. While some people like the LE over the Vet for the starting 3 damage, the Vet has a 12 Speed and 11 AV which I think are more valuable.
Shield Snipers Vet from Clobbering Time has 4 clicks of RCE for only 18 pts. You may call her worthless if she is based since she is doing zero base damage, but with the changes to the Shield TA, can 18 pts be that useless? And the Sinister version at 22 pts may not give you that great 10 range, but with 2 clicks of starting stealth to really pull of the definition of sniper, I think they still pull more than their weight on a team.

I always hate playing against Winter Soldier, too. I feel like he's one of those pieces you play against that your eyes just get drawn to and you feel like is the biggest threat to deal with even though there may be more powerful figures on the map that are worth more points. I find myself always planning around him inadvertently instead of some of their bigger bruisers just because of the intimidation factor he brings to the table.
Also, I really like the Veteran IC Bullseye choice. I pulled that in my first starter set and that thing was a beast. That 11 AV was just crazy and great for copying AVs for the Sinister Syndicate team. All-in-all, an awesome figure. I used to feel a little bad for playing him because he's just so cost-effective.
My list would mirror a lot of Vevilaughs' picks. I tend to think of the heyday of Trick Shot and associate the great RCE figures with that. Nebula, Hal Jordan, FF Hawkeye, CJ Green Arrow, etc. But clearly, Winter Soldier is the best modern figure with the power.
1) Gladiator: Sure he has a glass jaw, but what a first click! 10 Range and 14 Speed with Running Shot lets him cover 17 squares (if you chose not to go with RCE). 12 Attack makes it unlikely he’ll miss. 17 Defense is OK and Impervious will help him stay on that first click (beware of Outwit!!!). Throw the RCE on the natural 4 damage and you got 6 clicks of pain. 2nd click drops Speed to 12, Attack to 11, and Defense to 16 but he keeps the 4 Damage and RCE.
2) The Mighty Thor (see ibeatdrew; you’re not the only one!): Three clicks of RCE with 4 natural damage and three with 3.
3) Starhawk: 12 Range with 3 clicks of RCE - what more can you ask for? How about attack values of 9, 10, and 11!
For "bricks"; that's going to be tough because there are so many to chose from. Like the RCE figs, I'll limit it to just ones I own...

I like it when people agree with me!
But how can Winter Soldier be the best modern click when he only has ONE CLICK of RCE?
He is a FANTASTIC CLICK that happens to have a click of RCE, but by no means does he qualify for "best modern click for RCE."

The Sean Galloway mentioned in the podcast; is he the same one drawing Teen Titans in Wednesday Comics? Yeah, it's a DC question, apologies...

So far, not many figures post-Supernova have been mentioned in the discussion. On the podcast, I think it was only SR Storm and Yellow Lantern who were given the nods, and those are each figures who don't start with RCE. Others, if they're sporting the RS/RCE, then their RCE is probably not used for the first couple of turns in a game.
But the Soldier is a near immediate threat to use RCE. And for that range and those points, extremely potent.
Meryln would probably make my list as well. The stealth and low point value is key.
I was happy to hear Firelord on the list. He is still a beast and has so much history of abuse.
The one figure I really thought would be on the list was Shield Sniper. (or did I miss it in the podcast)
I like the choice of Winter Soldier. Sure its only one click but its still devasting. The most dangerous RCE pieces are those that are hard to retalliate. Stealth and RCE are like chocolate and peanut butter.
Good Cast guys!!!
What is the Top 5 for next week? (edit: the Top 5 is Bricks. What do you define as a "Brick"?)
With so many bricks, I think they need to limit within pt range perhaps?

thats a good thought. I'm sure they will mix it up though. Cost effectiveness is a component of any figure.
Would Rampaging Hulk be consisered a "Brick" piece?
One of my favorites is Magog. He's a brick with range.
I think the Top 5 should be Bricks without range.
And is there a difference between a brick (someone that primarily takes damage) from a bruiser (someone that dishes out damage).
