So this whole ring giveaway has gotten me interested in DC comics...
I'm surprised to say it. I'm buying the ring issues and enjoying the reads. I was "suckered in" by the Sinestro Corps ring (I was a casual reader of Green Lantern, but LOVED the Sinestro Corps), and really liked the Doom Patrol issue that came with it.
And then this week came around, and R.E.B.E.L.S. has blown me away. Brainiac 2 (Vril Dox) and Starro...
Just excellent. My kind of dark hero who stops at NOTHING to bring about justice. Even if it means crossing the line to do it.
I havn't been this excited about a comic since the old Valiant days.
I'm going to keep buying these lovely ring issues, and I'll gladly pick up R.E.B.E.L.S. to keep following the story.
And hey, now I'm actually paying some attention to Blackest Night. Seems like DC had a real winner of a promotional idea here. Got me anyway.

I completely agree. I actually picked up Doom Patrol after hearing that there'd be a ring to go with it. Turns out I'm enjoying the story (enjoying the Metal Men feature more, but hey.) I'm trying out new books and getting a prize for doing so?
I swear, DC can treat me like I'm a little kid for a while if it gets me awesome swag. Sure beats having to buy that $200 display replica set.

T me booster was the best but I think the hardest to get into from a non reader standpoint becasue there was no action it was all about development and emotional resonance

Yeah, the Doom Patrol book was nicely augmented by the Metal Men story, but I thought the whole book was pretty good.

booster gold was awesome...i used to hate this guy.
doom patrol i knew nothing about even though i have their first appearance (i still haven't got time to read it). it gave enough history and enough campy horror/suspense to keep me interested. r.e.b.e.l.s i have to admit i am completely lost on. when does this take place?
i though all these guys were in the future? it was still kinda cool even though i have no idea who or what or why they are.
I'm buying the books for the rings. Here are my thoughts on the books so far:
Booster Gold: Pass. I like that Dan Jurgens can keep with this character for EVER, but I didn't get a kick out of this book in the 1980s, I didn't enjoy the Jurgens JLA, and this title isn't doing anything for me twenty years later.
R.E.B.E.L.S.: I was a fan of the L.E.G.I.O.N. title for a few years (until '91?) so this was nostalgic...I can't believe that the Sinestro Corps ring would have made such a terrible mistake as choosing Vril Dox...I'm curious how this will turn out, but not enough to buy the book regularly.
Doom Patrol/Metal Men: The only Doom Patrol for me was Grant Morrison's. I can tell from this issue that this will be a solid series for anyone following it, however. It's great to see the creative team on the Metal Men. Much like Adventure/LSH I think I might ONLY buy this book for the second feature.

Pretty well agreed with what you said EXCEPT for this one. I never read the original L.E.G.I.O.N. or R.E.B.E.L.S., but I'm enjoying this. I'm not familiar enough with Vril Dox to know if it was a "terrible mistake" or not, but I enjoyed his response.
I actually liked it so much, I went and bought R.E.B.E.L.S. #9 to get more back story. I may go farther back, and I'll probably continue forward.
Keep the rings coming though, they are fantastic.

That exactly, If I went back in time five years and told myself that I would be pulling Booster monthly I would have punched myself in the face and spit on me while I was on the ground, but now I can't wait for the next issue.
IF you went back five years ago and someone told you that Booster Gold was going to be one of the greatest heroes of all time and Max Lord would cause a cataclysmic destruction in the DCu....you probably would have gone "And what...Darkseid will Adopt Ambush Bug as his son?"

I don't know why, just can't seem to like the guy.
Loved the last two "Ring Issues", and I might need to step back and buy the rest of the main Blackest Night run. Loved the JSA issue also, but it was a bit slow and ploddy. (like a typical zombie film in a dark warehouse...).
Thus far though, I have gone back and bought some R.E.B.E.L.S. back issues, and I may start reading a few more as well.
But not Booster. Not now, anyway.
