It's probably a tie:
I had JUST gotten myself a Norrin Radd from the convention for buying a VIP weekend pass, and went to play my new Dr. Donald Blake and Ganthet at my venue...one of the regulars gave me $50-60 worth of Vets from Collateral Damage, Sinister, and Armor wars that I needed to complete those sets...I bought Norrin again last year for $14, but he DEFINATELY was worth $50 or $60 back when I got him.
I had JUST bought a Superman Prime for $37 when I got offered a Lamppost Batman for a Superman Prime, so instead of chipping out $70-80 for Lamppost Bats on Ebay, I made the trade!!
I bought a Cosmic Justice Despero for $5 at a comic book shop I had never been to before...that night, I played in a tounement at my venue and afterwards, offered to trade for someone's Sinestro (the only piece I lacked in the set)...he went through all my stuff and picked my CJ Despero!
*smile*
How much can you take, and keep moving forward?
The Green Lantern Corps is DC's version of the US Marine Corps.
Usually when most people trade they end up with figures that they want or need. In the end both people are happy. That is what matters.
I traded a TON of nons (Critical Mass and Mutant Mayhem) and a Thor's Mighty Chariot for a Sinestro Bats. Local trade, by the way. Guy was missing A LOT of Critical Mass and Mutant Mayhem so he was more than willing to make the trade.
I traded a heap of Batman Enemy LEs and uniques for KC Green Lantern back in the day. The friend I traded with knew the relative value of these figures, but I'd given him a lot of figures in the past, he loved Batman Enemies as a team, and hunting them all down would have been a lot of effort... so we were both pretty happy about this.
I traded my time (listing and selling stuff on ebay for a friend) in exchange for the paint master colossal Spectre fig and a KC GL that is signed by Alex Ross.
There are 542,000 children in foster care. Talk to your local foster and adoptive agency. You could change a life.
The most awesome trades I have ever had were.... Any that I actually receive my part of the trade. I've been ripped off in the past by people not sending their side, so that's always a bad trade for me.
If you are talking about value, I think it's sort of irrelevant. Let's take a look at one example of the KC GL. I think KC GL goes for about $80 online (I might be off a little bit). Now let's say you bought 10 unique/LEs (batman enemy, whatever) as well. Now when you add shipping costs (I think avg is about $4 or so) and the end price of the LE, you will get close to that $80. May not be exact, but you have to include shipping. Granted, you might get one seller and combine shipping, but if you take an avg price of $5-6 per figure (with shipping included), it's somewhat relative.
I've traded uniques/LEs for nons before and I don't bat an eye? Sure, I may be missing out on money, but in the end of the day, if I get 10-20 figures, that's equivalent of buying 3-4 boosters. @ $12 a pop, that adds up quick. AND I'm not even guaranteed the figures I want. Sure, I could get an Odin or some other cool figure. OR I could get a ton of Rookie Ghost Riders or Princess Pythons or some other figure as well..
As long as both sides are happy, both sides receive their figures, and the figures are in good shape, I call it an awesome trade. Then again, I'm a bit old school that way.
Many many moons ago, when travelers would venture into this thing called a chat room that used to be around these parts there lived a {WHYCANTIREMEBERTHENAME?!?} and he was kind enough to hear a user {ME} whine about something...
He sent me a Hulk, no questions asked... the one that looks like he is constipated.
That guy was awesome. Hulk and the {WHYCANTIREMEBERTHENAME?!?}
So are we supposed to celebrate "getting one over" on somebody else? Wow...pretty low, sir.
My favorite trade was trading for Susan Richards chase. I gave some good figs that I expected to give and I got a figure I really prized because I am a Skrull fan and a FF fan. It was a very good trade.
My experience with trading on the Realms has been positive and I have enjoyed interacting with this community.
This isnt a trade, but an awesome purchase I made today. Went to the local flea market on a tip from one of the comic shop employess, cause he said there was a new guy with a bunch of clix and wasnt selling them for very much.
So I went and looked around for the shop, finally finding it before I was going to leave and looked up and there was Carnage staring back at me.
He said all of the uniques on the shelf were $1-$3, so I grabbed Carnage, Silver Surfer, Nimrod, Ultimate Iron Man, Scarlet Spider, Spidey 2099 and the Elektra LE from Explosion.
The guy then proceeded to tell me that he had some loose clix that he was selling for .25 apiece. Started digging through the box and KC Wonder Woman jumped out at me. (was glued to the base, but that didnt really matter to me for a quarter :P). Grabbed a Baron Strucker, CT Enchantress and Joker from HT, plus a few random other figs.
Ended up paying $21 for all of the uniques plus the random stuff I pulled from the box.
