So the other day i was fighting an A.I.M. team (i know, it happens to all of us at some point), and the Super Adaptoid landed its shape change roll. Since i couldn't target that unbalanced robot with an attack, I attempted to use Pulse Wave with Spider-Woman instead of the range attack i had previously attempted. Spider Woman was two squares away from all A.I.M. flunkies. The communal of judges/players voted against using this after Shape Change Pulse Wave action. I ended up range attacking another A.I.M. generic instead.
I still don't get why i couldn't use Pulse Wave. The activated Shape Change says " The attacker (Jessica Drew) must choose another target or be given another different non-free action." Can't the Pulse Wave be another non-free action? Doesn't Pulse Wave ignore all powers? If anything, couldn't i have just Pulse Waved and ignored the robot and hit all the generics swarming all over the frakkin place?
She could have used Pulse Wave, which would have ignored Shape Change. Super Adaptoid would have been dealt damage if the attack hit him.
Your judges/players probably considered this :
"If Character B makes a successful Shape Change roll against Character A's attempt at targeting Character B, then Character A cannot target Character B with an attack for the rest of the turn."
(from the Player's Guide)
but :
1) Pulse Wave doesn't target characters
2) it ignores all powers anyway.
