I guess the title is pretty self-explanatory. I've been reading Marvel comics now for a couple years and I am interesting in getting in to DC Comics. This is primarily because I've been so turned off by the events of Siege and how that is unfolding as well as some of the preachy messages in Captain America (hello Watchdogs).
I guess I'm not sure where would be a good place to start. I read Sinestro Corps War and I also read Kingdom Come. I thought both of these were very good. I'll also admit that playing with certain figures in Heroclix has fueled my curiosity (tip the hat to the two Chase Supermans). Are there any suggestions out there where would be a good place to start? Right now the whole DC universe seems very confusing and messed up compared to the more simplified Marvel universe.
Hey bud. Am here to help. I love DC and its very hard for me to recommend reading material cause there is just was too much stuff from DC to read. I used to be a Marvel fan (still am but care for DC more) till my friend lent me a copy of The Dark Knight Returns and Swamp Thing by Alan Moore. I would start with Crisis in Infinite Earths. So you can get a feel of what they are trying to do now. If you read Sinestro Corps, I would recommend getting GL: Rebirth and catch up on what's up to date with the War of Light in Blackest Night (best mega event I've read in a LONG time). Batman: Long Halloween, Dark Victory, Haunted Knight, Superman for all Seasons. JSA by Geoff Johns is freaking awesome or any tthing that he writes I roccomend. Check out Blackest Night as well. The list goes on and on. If you need any e-mail me and I will most definitely help you. Hope I was of some help to you.
DC has courteously provided a variety of "jumping-on points" in the wake of Blackest Night.
Take a look at the Brightest Day series, and you'll probably find something to catch your eye. Me, I'm most excited about Birds of Prey, but something like Flash may be a better entry-level read.
If you want to try the trade paperback route (great for getting a lot at once) I'd strongly suggest three series.... with a bonus after.
1. JSA/Justice Society of America. The previous volume went ~80 issues before being re-launched under the expanded title. You'll get a variety of characters that have really developed arcs and turns. Stories that reach into the past and future of DC as a whole. Basically, it's just a very solid book.
2. Starman... for obvious reasons. Available in Omnibus editions that'll be coming out into early next year. 1-4 out now, 5 later this year, and 6 next year (I believe). I'll probably never stop advocating for people to check out that series.
3. Green Lantern +Corps - These have just been very strong and that's the reason they were the leading force behind the latest big event. You read SinCorps, so either go back, or start picking up now... whatever.
4. Here's a sideways suggestion... maybe not viable for you based on your principles, but I really suggest checking out Marvel's cosmic titles: Nova, GotG, etc. Big stories with exciting and fun characters and strong continuity with ties going back to events of yore. Yeah, it's Marvel, but it's also the guys doing some great work.
Not sure why the current Cap arc turned you off... but hopefully something in my ideas here works out for you.

I agree with all of this, particularly the bolded. I cannot recommend Starman enough to folk.

If you find any of Paul Dini's Batman: Detective Comics, go ahead and pick them up. They are mostly single issue stories, but they are pretty much all very strong and enjoyable.
All the crisis books are good all round 'what's going on' titles; Crisis on infinite earths, Infinite crisis, Identity Crisis, 52, Countdown and Final Crisis.
They will make you want to catch up on Batman, Green lantern, Superman...

Paul Dini is very strong - this is good advice.
Identity Crisis was the best comic story I've ever read. (AGHHHWatchmenisthegreatestcomiceverAGHHH!) The OMAC Project details the aftermath.
Green Lantern Rebirth really got me reading GL.
Green Arrow: Sounds of Violence is by Kevin Smith, and really fun.
I'm a Batman bobo myself, and if you want a good Batman experience, A Death in the Family and A Lonely Place of Dying explains the Robin Hierarchy pretty well. From there: Knightfall;
Cataclysm/No Man's Land;
Bruce Wayne: Murderer/Bruce Wayne Fugitive
Batman: Hush
Under the Hood
and Batman and Son
will get you up to speed.
Oh shoot. I forgot about 52 and that deserves to be mentioned (and was above me!). They really got the talent lined up to keep that out each and every week. Countdown generally was weak, but 52 basically set the bar pretty high for how good a weekly comic could be, and keep in mind while reading it that it was coming out once a week for a year... and had some behind the scenes drama and such that could have totally messed it up, but didn't.
Because of 52 I do follow The Question in all the minis she shows up in and now in Detective (also love what Rucka has done to mature the Batwoman character).
