Definatly has the raw stats to contend with anyone, but is it too lacking in mobility or utility? I wouldnt do it against a 'competitive' 900 pt team, but could it contend wiith say Avengers or Justice league?

Use the SI Iron Man he is so much better and the Illuminati are a force to be reckoned with. If you loose with that much perplex something is terribly wrong. Of course this team works a little better with feats namely Nova Blast on Black Bolt, I usually play them at 1000 and throw Brilliant tactician on Iron Man, Mr. Fantastic and Dr. Strange, it really turns them into a power house< I throw contingency plan on Namor as well. and then some filler feats yeah your down some points but they are really nasty.
