Hey, all. I've been playing clix for about 6 weeks now. My collection is starting to get sizeable, and I've played in 5 of my local hobby shop's weekly tourneys. But here's the problem: I've come in dead last every single time.
Now, normally, I wouldn't mind this, because most of the guys there are nice, and it is just fun to play and make new friends, but there is one guy there that has only been playing for an about a month longer than I have, and he is an absolute jerk. He uses the most annoying and cheap tactics he can to win (Like an entire team of prob controllers...) and is just an unpleasent and pompous guy all around. Long story short, I'd like to win this coming tounrey, but if anything, I REALLY want to beat this guy.
So here's the set up: Golden Age, 1000 Pts., but with a limit of 5 actions per turn. I decided that the three teams that would have the biggest advantage here would be Justice Leage, Avengers and Brotherhood. I pretty much already know that this guy I want to beat will be using mostly or possibly all Brotherhood, so my best option was Avengers. (The only other 1000 point theme team I could make would be "Teen" and I didn't like my odds there.)
So, what am I asking from you guys? Well, here are all of the figures I have with the Avengers keyword. I would like it very much if you guys could tell me the best 1000 pt. team I could make from them, what feats/BFC's I could use, and the general strategy I should go for. Here's what I've got (In little to no order):
Iron Man (Secret Invasion 188 pts.)
Yellowjacket (Secret Invasion 100 pts.)
Dr. Strange (Secret Invasion 149 pts.)
Hercules (Secret Invasion 142 pts.)
Wolverine (GSX 103 pts.)
Beast (GSX 95 pts.)
Black Panther (Avengers 92 pts.)
Firestar (WOS 81pts.)
Now, that's the team I've picked out, and if I did my math right, that adds up to 950 points, which leaves room for some feats. Here are the extra figures I have that you guys may decide are better used in my team than some of the above:
Iron Man (WOS 202 pts.)
Namor (Secret Invasion 150 pts.)
Spider-Man (Secret Invasion 50 pts.)
Stingray (Avengers 39 pts.)
So, that's it. What combination of these guys do you think would be most effective? What feats should I use? What should be my general gameplan here?
Thanks in advance for any advice you guys can give.
Perhaps the world is not made. Perhaps nothing is made: A clock without a craftsman...
...I'd consider ditching the Panther and Firestar and replace such that it sits out like this:
SI Spider-Man
SI Dr. Strange
SI/Classics Iron Man
SI Yellowjacket
Avg SR Scarlet Witch
GSX Wolverine
GSX Beast
SI Hercules
sitting at 999 points...
other option might be to pull Yellowjacket and Beast, and sub in SI Ms. Marvel, and toss in Stingray if he'll fit. She brings some additional mobility in her HSS stuff...
"A" is "A". And no matter what universe he's from, Luthor... is Luthor.
Well, the problem is, as you can see from the list I posted, I don't have Ms. Marvel or Scarlet Witch. I pretty much just have to work with the figures I listed above.

The best advise I can give you is "give it time". There is always going to be "that guy" at venues. In my opinion is "that guy" makes playing this game more fun. You may not be able to beat him is this up coming tourney. Your best bet is to wait for a 300 pointer to make your mark. By all means play this guy and I really hope that you beat him, but just give your self some time.
as for your team put brilliant tactician on dr. strange, vampirism on wolverine, contingency plan on yellow jacket, and pym particles on Hercules. That is an even 1000. good luck.

Change Ironman to the 202 point one. Take out Black Panther and Yellow Jacket. Put in Namor and Spiderman.
The 202 point Ironman gives you SHIELD TA so your wildcards can increase range. Dr Strange with increased range will be threatening. Namor gives shared defense to your wildcards on opponent's turns. Even when Dr Strange gets off first click, having Namor next to him will make him harder to hit. As well, if a opposing fig tries to base you, Namor can back him up. Wolverine can X-heal some injuries.
With remaining 28 points, do what you will. Lunge on Spidey is good. Forcefield for Dr Strange to give him toughness on certain clicks. Or brilliant tactician is a better choice for Dr Strange.
If you do run Strange, use Brilliant Tactician. Its great on him. I like Dr. tran's team. (LOL @ username)
I thought I'd also mention the following:
Iron Man 202
Dr. Strange 149
Namor 150
You know what's interesting about these Avengers? They're all members of the Illuminati, which is really really good at this build total.
Any chance you have Mr. Fantastic and Professor X? You could throw on SI Iron Man as well (different suits).
I actually do have Reed and Charles, and I thought about going for Illuminati, but I thought that Avengers TA would help me in this game, since it will help me get around the limit of actions per turn.
And thanks for all of the advice so far, guys. I appreciate it. I've been thinking about loading Herc with some feats. Immortal Contempt, Haymaker and then something to help him get around like Double Time or Unstoppable should make him into a tank.
Keep the advice coming. Also, I'll make sure to post the results of the tourney here!

If you really want to win, read the rulebook and PAC a few times, and bone up on the SPs of the current min/max power figures.
coming soon : nu52 Hercules

I ran a 600pt Illuminati team about 2 weeks ago i had:
Prof x (M&M)
Namor (SI)
Mr. Fantastic (starter)
Iron Man (wos)
I totally cleaned house, i would carry up the professor and protect him with iron man and namor carry mr. fantastic up and then perplex all defense up with the prof. x. When it was my turn again i used prof.x preplex on attack and running shot with iron man to get out of the way. Mind control with the prof.x and using the violet lantern to mind control from a 14 rangeand use his own guy to deal damage.(use mr.fantastic perplex if need) If you can get namor up close you can flurry for 6 with mr. fantasic perplex.
Do you really have to run a themed team? Themed teams are good and all, and yes there are many benefits to using one, it's just that you could probably come up with a more devastating team without having to rely on the bonuses afforded.
For example with SI Dr. Strange, it helps a lot to have a diverse choice of Team Abilities. As long as you have the utility powers like TK, Perplex, Prob control and outwit in the team, you could still give your opponent a run for his money.
Sometimes being thematic becomes too much of a crutch. It's just a suggestion though. The best advice that I can give you is to use figures that you are familiar with. A team made of familiar figures will do better in your hands than a new team.
Mr. Fantastic - 100 W/Brilliant Tactician - 20 and Outsmart - 10
Professor X - 123 W/ Metal Shields - 15
Dr. Strange - 149 W/ Brilliant Tactician - 20
Namor - 150 W/In contact with Oracle -10 and Protected - 8
Black Bolt - 166 W/Nova Blast - 10 and Protected - 8
Iron Man - 188 W/In Contact with Oracle - 10 and Protected 8
