I have found a location that is willing to hold events, but the only thing in question at the moment is "judges". I am under the impression that a judge is just a well knowledgable person on the rules, and could in turn be anyone. Is this infact true, or is there certification that must be obtained first like some other games out there.
The person in charge is wondering, and this weekend I'm meeting with him to discuss the details. A link or any benificial information would greatly be apriciated.
Also keep in mind that Prize Support Kits have to be paid for by the venue, so when trying to recover that loss some venues have a buy in price...
Like states there are no official judges at the moment (except the deputies) so you can be a self proclaimed judge and if you have any questions you can always refer to here.

Often times the judge will also fill the role of envoy. So try to make sure that whoever you pick to be judge isn't just knowledgeable in the rules, but is also socially equipped to be a Cheerleader for the game and the store. Enthusiasm is contagious and having someone in place that exudes that will only help your Heroclix group to be the best that it can be.

Judges are no longer Wizkids certified (there was a time where there was a test and a process). So if ye wish to be a judge, you are.
Now I have been corrected my share in my time of playing this game and judging it, but this part scares me nowadays with some of the rulings I have seen.
A good defense will only last for so long, before you must crush your enemies outright!

Also keep in mind, Judges usually don't play in the tournaments. At every venue I've been to, the Judges, with notable exceptions few and far between, only play opponents in the By-Round slot, as an option to just sitting around for 40-50 minutes. But, the venues usually provide a set of figures/maps/objects from the OP Kit in gratitude for running the events. So, Judges usually play less, but don't have to worry about LE pieces.
Just stuff to keep in mind.

It just frustrates me when the game rewards crummy judging.
if you are talking about the prize kit...
The Third prize came be utilized how the venue chooses. For instance a venue can give out all prizes that that way there is no break in prizes between sets.

Another good quality for a Judge to have is attractiveness. You don't want your Judge to be an unhygienic, overweight, uncharismatic slob. Who's going to want to join a group with that as the "leader"?

I dont care if the judge is a one legged dog thats frothing at the mouth, as long as he calls the game correctly and fairly.
You say that now... Wait till he starts drowling on your map!
