So I have a question about range attacks. Me and my friends have always thought/played that if you had more than one , you could attack multiple targets for your printed damage against each one and you used different dice rolls for each target. My buddy told us a few weeks ago he was reading updated rules and they said if you're attacks multiple targets, you only roll once (and compare the roll to all targets like you would with EE) and that you can only use the printed damage and divide it amongst the targets as you see fit (choosing the damage dealt to each before the roll).
Which way is correct, or are both wrong?
We started playing the way my buddy said he read was correct, but then i saw the IceCap power

SECOND DEFLECTION: When Captain America targets a character with a ranged combat attack, he may target an additional character within 3 squares and line of fire from the first character and divide the damage between them. The second character does not have to be withing Captain America's Range or Line of Fire.
and from the wording, it makes it seem like the dividing damage between multiple targets is not what you would normally do, making us believe the way we were originally playing was correct. Would anyone care to clarify for us all. Thanks
Normally, you roll once and divide the damage among the targets successfully hit (Note: after the roll).
Captain America's SP isn't using the normal rules for multiple bolts so the normal division in damage could not be assumed (while it seems redundant it was necessary).
Note that it has been divvy up the damage between hit targets for a long time
Way back it was 1 damage per target if you targeted multiple targets, ignoring your damage value (which explains Clobbering Time Hawkeye, 0 damage with RCE - so if you attack one person you did 2, if you attacked multiple you did 1 each)
When we first played Infinity Challenge in May 2002, we thought allowed you to make attack against three targets for full damage to each, including powers like RCE.
