i dont understand what the heck that thing is telling me. so if im rolling against two people with a ranged guy with 2 lightning bolts, what happens?
You roll once. If you hit the target, you then compare to everyone adjacent to the Target including other targets. But if you miss, you do not compare to adjacent characters. You then count how many times each character was hit and then deal them that much damage.

Yikes, did they recently change the rules on this? I thought if you hit the targeted character(s) then all adjacent characters were hit as well regardless of their defense. Didn't know you have to compare defense values... must of been a house rule where we forgot the actual rule.

No
Here is Energy Explosion from Infinity Challenge
ENERGY EXPLOSION. This character’s ranged combat attack can affect all figures in squares adjacent to the target. (Optional) Give this character a ranged combat action and reduce his damage value to 1. A successful ranged combat attack affects the target figure and every figure in a square adjacent to the target, delivering 1 click of damage to each figure successfully hit. Make only one attack dice roll; compare that result to the defense value of the target figure and every figure in a square adjacent to the target.
Energy Explosion has ALWAYS required you to compare the defence values of all adjacent characters IF you hit the main target
so how does someone become hit twice? thats the part that loses me, the whole part where people could get hit twice. does that mean if i make a second attack w another EE guy? also..
so when doing the EE, the amount of lightning bolts does not matter?

You can get hit multiple times via EE 'splash' Damage. Like so:
C = character with EE and 3 1,2,3,4,5 = opposing characters
So C targets 1 2 & 3 with EE, and this is what happens:
1 is hit with EE and 'splash' from 2, for 2 Damage
2 is hit with EE and 'splash' from 1 and 3, for 3 Damage
3 is hit with EE and 'splash' from 2, for 2 Damage
4 is hit with 'splash' from 1 & 2, for 2 Damage
5 is hit with 'splash' 2 & 3, for 2 Damage
If C were elevated, he could do a lot more Damage by targeting 3 4 & 5, rather than 1 2 & 3.
That's what it means.
Trade to Canada. We're friendly, and we love Beavers..........

W.I.T - isn't 4 adjacent to 1, 2, and 3, so it should be 2 damage?
Possibly use the FONT="Courier New" /FONT tags (tip just given by Suttkus in another thread)
Energy Explosion tripped me up a bit, too, until I realized that a character with multiple attacks (bolts) can fire into a group of opponents to blast them multiple times.
I'm just getting into clix recently, so these threads are invaluable to guys like me.
