As far as I can tell there are three kinds of promoted Characters: Characters who are promoted to a starting line; characters who are promoted to the same click number; and finally, characters who are promoted to a number of clicks past a starting line.

On a result of 10 or higher, the replaced character begins on its blue starting line. If you rolled a 6 and the result is 12 or higher, the replaced character begins on its green starting line.

So my question is, how does healing work with these promoted figures?

line. A character with multiple starting lines can’t be healed beyond the starting line that it
began with in a particular game. A character is not considered “healed” unless a game effect causes it to turn its dial counterclockwise.
My assumption is Phoenix can't heal past the line she promoted to, but Emma can heal up to her top click? Where's Brainiac in all this? If he rolls an 8, can he heal past the blue line, as he didn't start on it?
Is it the reference to the starting line on promotion that makes that line the character's new starting line for purposes of healing? I assume this makes rolling the 8 total for Brainiac that results in counting from his Blue starting line the equivalent of choosing to start the character at that line for healing purposes?
(garbled wording on my part, but I'm just trying to understand in context of the rulebook wording "Any other starting lines and associated point costs are ignored for game purposes")

If you mean "Isn't the Blue line Brainiac's starting line if I roll a 8", then the answer is "yes". You might not actually start on the blue line (if the old school Brainiac took any damage), but you'd be using that blue line as your starting line and future point of reference.
Let me test my understanding...
005 Brainiac is on click 2. I have 4 promotion tokens on his card and I roll to promote:
*I roll a 5 and 012 Brainiac comes in on click 6 and can't heal past click 5.
*I roll a 6 and 012 Brainiac comes in on click 2 and can be healed to click 1.
That about right?
As a side note, if I fail promotion I can roll again next time I get a token on the card, right?
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

I would quote the wording for you but I am on my phone. All the battlefield promotions I have seen you can choose to roll a die when a promotion token is placed on that character's card.

Assuming you have the click numbers correct, yep, you've got it.

You may roll every time a token is added, yes. Exceptions like Marvel Girl aside, of course.
I was wonder what the rules are for healing figs that have promoted?
For example, if i use M10A001 Captain America and he get damaged down to his last click, if i were to promote him to M10A023 Captain America (Skrull version) and then try to heal the promoted/latter fig, how far back would i be allowed to heal this character?
I actually believe a promoted figure works different than an AE figure. AE figures can not be healed past there orange starting line if the were brought in via that mechanic. On the other hand I believe that BFP figs can be healed past where you brought them in at. Here is the difference in wording...
BFP - you may replace this character with the figure on the same click number
AE - you may replace this character with X on its orange starting click
The key words here are "starting click", because on a BFP figure unless you replace them at their full number of clicks they are not at their starting click and any figure can healed to their starting click. If you could not heal them past where you placed them it would probably read something like this..."replace them on the same click number, this click number now becomes its starting click." Unless this gets errated this is how I get I am understanding it.
I think I remember reading another form about this or about it in the units section. If someone else can throw there 2 cents in just for reinsurance. This is why if you can get a fully healed BFP figure it can be a real game changer having a team that is basically over the build total.

For the figures where it is simply "same click number" or something similar you're right. But some promotions are to a specific line, or X clicks from a specific line, in which case that line is now as healthy as they can ever be.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
