So my history in gaming is quite vast from 40k, to D&D, to Warmachine, to other games. In other words...games where you roll dice. We (I) have always played that any dice that goes off the table or is cocked gets rerolled.
So the game is going pretty solid and I am about to take out a character. I need a 6 to hit. I roll a 6 on one die and the other a 5 is cocked. My opponent proceeded to tell me that there is a rule that says I have to roll both dice...huh. he claims the rule is official, but could not find it in the book. This is important because I would have taken out the model in question and put me at an advantage. The judge does not want to get involved. I end up re-rolling and missing...game over from there.
So is there an official rule or did I loose to BS?
From my history, this is a standard rule from MANY games, to prevent someone from "trailing" a die. That is, seeing what one is going to be before "dumping" the other on the ground.
If one is cocked or falls off the table, BOTH dice get rerolled.
Truthfully I am not sure if it is in the offical rules anymore, but thats how I learned it from the start of the game 11 years ago, I think that did used to be in the rules, exactly for the reason Zelif said. If you were able to trail one you could get an unfair advantage, and that spills over into the "leaner". It sucks when it works against you but thats how the scale balances.

The Judge should have a policy in place for this. At our venue the rule on dice off the table or not landing flat is clearly spelled out on every force build sheet we print.
Having that printed and visible has saved us a few arguements.
Even most of the locals were saying you roll the cocked die. As for trailing, I have never done that. Even when the locals told him that is how we did things he wanted to complain. I am sorry but when you come to a store of locals and argue something against how it is done,,,jerk move.
Well, yeah, if thats how the venue does it, why did you aquiesce?
And as for:

Of course not, silly! And prisons are full of wrongfully convicted people! (I assume you have never done this, but the filthiest cheater alive wouldn't say he was trailing).
Dice Etiquette
All dice must be rolled at the same time. If one die is not laying flat on the playing surface or falls off the table, then all dice used in that roll should be rolled again.
That line no longer appears in the current tournament rules, but it probably should. Those of us who have been playing awhile still follow that rule.

Yep, that was what I was remembering. Gosh, I haven't seen that document in forever. I don't think the line still exists, but if you learned it in the beginning or learned from someone who did, you probably think its still offical.

Unless you have it written somewhere its not a jerk move. Just cause the whole store says something is a certain way, doesn't make it or them right. The judge in heroclix is the final answer and if they didn't make a ruiling one way or the other then the player was in their right to try and enforce a what they thought was a rule.
And you were in your right to debate the point, and the judge, should have made a ruiling, thats their job. I am sorry it didn't work out for you, but you should really be more upset with the judge for not setteling the dispute.

How in the world does the judge not get involved? There was a question about the rules of the dice. That is the only thing he is there for. That baffles me that he/she would not intervine to state one way or the other if it was both dice or just one.
As for me and my venue it is and always has been that you reroll both dice.

I'm still stuck on the fact that your judge didn't want to get involved... What's up with that?!
I have to agree. If i were visiting, because I learned in the old system, I would say the "right" answer is re-roll both dice. If the judge told me "no, we don't do that here" then I'd accept that answer. But my opponent says "nah, I keep the six and re-roll the other"? I need something a little more official, thanks.
The purpose of the judge is to mediate and settle rules disputes, not just to set up the next round of matches and keep the records. If the rule there is to only re-roll the "bad" die then he should have said so. If the rule is both die, he should have said so. This is what he's there to do.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
