Black Glove Demon Question

For the purposes of

010a Strike From the Shadows: When a friendly character misses an opposing character adjacent to Black Glove Demon, after actions resolve, you may give Black Glove Demon a free action to make a close combat attack targeting the same opposing character.

Does Black Glove Demon count as a friendly character to himself? If he attacks someone and misses, can he make another attack?

This came up in a game last night. Thanks!
