We've house-ruled the movie version of the Batman Ally TA to work for prerequisites like the Batman Cowl, Batmobie pilot abilitites, etc.

Is the official ruling still that the movie Team Symbol does not work for things that need the original Batman TA Symbol?

don't know, but i hope they count as the same... mainly cause they have the same name.. granted the symbols are different... but its kinda like "shield with stripe is indom" well... its like arguing... "the power says indom... not shield and stripe"

They are different, so if it shows one symbol, then that is the symbol you must have.

The current ruling is that the two symbols are different (obviously) and since the pilot ability calls for a specific symbol only that symbol meets the requirement. The DKR set Batman Ally symbol will not satisfy the requirement.

To us, it made no sense. They are called the same thing and worded exactly the same.

Out of curiosity, is this new for you with the Batman Ally team ability/symbols or have you also been house ruling this already for years with Hyperfime?

Hypertime is not called the same, there is Kingdom Come and Hypertime and they have name and symbols which are different

The "new" movie batman TA is just a different symbol with the same name. Through i understand the official ruling, i also have empathy for thugit home rule too.

Actually, there is no Kingdom Come Team Ability anymomre, there is only Hypertime. Hypertime Team Ability is represented by two Team Symbols, a "starburst" and a "KC".

I vaguely recall a KC symbol representing a differently named ability, but that may have been ret-conned, possibly with the underwear on the inside, now.

As stated, the situation you have with Batman Ally is the exact same as the one that has existed for a long time already with KC and Hypertime.

It is one team ability represented by two distinct symbols. If you look in the player's guide, you will see that there is no Kingdom Come entry and one Hypertime entry which has both symbols. It is the same for Batman Enemy and Batman Ally.


(To be fair, when Crisis was released, they were different but then were merged at a later point in time.)

Where something requires the same team ability they work together, because it's the same ability. Where it requires the same team symbol they do not, because it isn't. The TA, for example, calls for the same ability and they will interchange fine for that.

This sounds like a tomato/tomato debate.

There's not really any debate, though. The answers are definite.

Does an effect require a specific team symbol? If so, then only that specific symbol will qualify.

Does an effect require two figures to have the same team symbol? If so, then they both must be the exact same symbol.

Does an effect require two figures to have the same team ability? If so, then either symbol will count as the ability is still the same.

My take from this thread:

Before buying a movie tie in, check the symbols, keywords, and dials - or you could get stuck with a dead end expansion. Just like the Batman movie CTDs. Got it!
