Contradictory Wording: Venom & Banshee & Also a Spider-Bot Question..
So.. I've been wondering how this situation plays out, because I was wanting to put these two on a team together, but I've been avoiding it completely because I have no idea how this works.
So, assume DP 034 Venom and 051 Banshee are on the same team..
And let's assume Venom gets knocked down to one of the clicks where he has: LET THE MONSTER LOOSE: When Venom attacks an opposing character, that character can use Super Senses. Once per game, give Venom a free action and when he can use this power, he can use Battle Fury and modifies all of his combat values by +2.
So, I think you know where this is going. Say Banshee is within range as well.. and his trait reads:
IT'S GOING TO GET A LITTLE LOUD: Opposing characters within 6 squares can't use Super Senses. Opposing characters within 6 squares can't use Impervious, Invincible, or Invulnerability but can use Toughness instead. When Banshee hits a character that can't use a power due to this trait, increase damage dealt to that character by 1.
I assume the "can't" from Banshee's trait would take precedence here?
Another example/question would be with Banshee's trait knocking down Invuln/Imperv to toughness, how would this work..
IM3 012 Extremis Brute's EXTREMIS HEAT: Extremis Brute can use Poison. Adjacent opposing character that take no damage from this use of Poison put a Heat token on their character card. A character with 1 or more Heat tokens can't use Toughness. A character with 2 or more Heat tokens can't use Invulnerability. A character with 3 or more Heat tokens can't use Impervious. When an opposing character clears action tokens and is not adjacent to Extremis Brute, it may remove 1 Heat token from its character card.
Would you only need one Heat token on someone in order to completely have no defenses left?
Also, I've been reading through the Spider-Bot discussions and haven't really seen any concrete answers to these two questions..
1) SPIDER-BOT SWARM: Modify Spider-Bot's attack value by +1 for each other friendly character within 3 squares named Spider-Bot.
If you have two Spider-Bots attached to Superior Spidey, does that count as +2?
and now for the ridiculous question:
I've seen people ask if attached Spider-Bots can attack.. It's safe to just say no, right? I mean, that would just be stupid.
The reason I ask about the Spider swarm ability is because I haven't seen any official ruling.
As a new-ish player (just a few months), those are some really interesting questions.
I would think that Banshee would prevent the use of super senses in the first example. Venom's damage power gives the opposing character super senses, but Banshee's trait prevents that character from using it. You could be on to some really neat synergy between these two!
In your second example, I'm with you again. I would think that if Banshee is within 6 squares and an opposing character also had at least one heat token, that they would not have any damage reducers available to use.
Finally, the Spider-Bot questions. I have no idea. I have Superior Spider-Man and 5 Spider-Bots (Mark 1), but I haven't played him yet. The way the wording looks, it seems as though you would get +2 to your AV with a Spider-Bot if you were within 3 squares to Superior Spider-Man (and he had two Spider-Bots attached). I guess it would depend on if the attached Spider-Bots were considered to be "in" Superior Spider-Man's square or if they were just attached to Superior Spider-Man. We know that two friendly (or any) characters can not occupy the same square, so on second thought, No you would not get +2 to your AV for being within 3 squares of attached Spider-Bots. The attached Spider-Bots are not considered to be occupying a square until they are detached.
You can tell by my amount of posts and reg date that you should take my answers with a grain of salt, but I like engaging in "theory wars" and I'm constantly battling with interpretations myself being a new player. Really enjoyed your examples and interested in what other players think.

Thanks for looking.
1) - Banshee wins. If one power says you Can do something and another says you can't the can't wins 99.9999% of the time. There are a few corner case exceptions, but this is the way that it generally works.
2) - That is correct. If you pair Banshee with any figure that says the opposing character can't use Toughness then Banshee plus that figure could leave that character with a naked defense.
3) - Nope. If the Spider-Bots are attached they are not on the map. That means that they are not within 3 squares of anything and they cannot attack.

2 doesn't tell the full story. At 1 heat token, a character could still use Invulnerability, Impervious, Invincible, and plenty of other defense powers. At 2 tokens, they can use Impervious, Invincible, and the other defense stuff. At 3, they can still use Invincible and other defense stuff. 1 token + Banshee might leave them naked, but it might not.

The presence of Banshee is what prevents the use of Impervious, Invincible, and Invulnerability. It permits toughness. The Heat token prevents the use of toughness. So a character within six squares of Banshee with one or more heat tokens is, effectively, naked with regards to damage reducers and dodging. They can still use combat reflexes and ES/D, though.

Oh, okay, I was reading it as 1 token and just that guy as the scenario asked about, then Dragon mentioned Banshee too. I misunderstood.
Well, they still get weird defense special powers.
