So I just played in war of light month three I guess I must be rusty. Do you not get +1 when you are in hindering but being attacked in close combat? I've always been told you do before this match.
The key to the hindering modifier is a hindered LoF. It doesnt actually matter whether the attack is Ranged or Close Combat. Typically Close Combat Attacks do NOT draw LoF and typically Ranged Combat Attacks DO.
However if there is some special Close Combat Attack or portion of a CCA that does draw LoF the hindering modifier would come into play. (Dreadknight for example).
Equally, if there is some special Ranged Combat Attack or portion of a RCA that does NOT draw LoF then the hindering modifier would not come into play.
I will caveat that by saying barring any other ruling by WK.
"A Jester unemployed is nobody's fool." - The Court Jester "And so he says, I don't like the cut of your jib, and I go, I says it's the only jib I got, baby!
What about if the character is a sharpshooter and makes a ranged combat attack to an adjacent opponent in hindering terrain?
Do they get +1 to defense then? If they're stealthed are they able to be seen by the sharpshooter if he's standing right next to them?
Ranged combat attacks draw LOF. If LOF is hindered, the hindering terrain modifier will activate. Relative distance between attacker and target does not matter.

What he said ^
(I was answering on my phone, otherwise I would have answered with the same eloquence demonstrated here by IceHot)

According to the rules you are right and that makes perfect sense following the rules for LOF. What bothers me is that it doesn't make logical sense. How can a character standing right next to a stealthed character see him and damage him if he decides to attack with his fists, yet if he decides to instead pull out a gun and use sharpshooter, all of a sudden his opponent is invisible?
I mean when you are adjacent to an opponent that means you are literally right next to him engaged in close combat, and sharpshooters are trained to use their range weapons/powers/abilities to make point blank shots. I just think that logically if you're close enough to punch someone stealthed in the back of the head, you're close enough to shoot them in the back of the head lol. Just my 2 cents.

You're confusing intuitive with logical. Thsoe are two very different things.
And the only logic that matters for the game is the game's internal logic, which is completely consistent in this case.
