Things I've learned from doing my podcast Comic Shenanigans for the past two years
1) Maintain a regular schedule
2) Make sure the podcast is available easily (iTunes)
3) Keep a clear and consise format
4) Practice before you record your first episode, or record a sample of yourselves to see how the levels sound, what back-up noises are picked up, etc.
5) Test out the recording software that you're going to use
6) Find a recording software that you're comfortable with
7) Find a good place to publish and host your podcast
8) Figure out the format
9) Have fun!
10) Limit as much as you can lazy language and run-on sentences. Once you've done a few and listened to your own voice, you'll pick up on certain language patterns you'll want to limit in order to keep the show moving nicely.
11) If you're going to swear, tag the show as Explicit.
12) Keep the show shortened to the amount of content you actually have to fill. Don't needlessly let the show run long.
Thanks! Love your show btw. Will be tryin all those. One question: is it free to put on iTunes?
Yeah, it's free to put on iTunes. You have to have a place to publish your podcast first. You can then have your podcast listed through iTunes. For example, I publish my podcast through Podbean.com. I can then have it listed through iTunes (it's been a long time since I set that up, so I don't really remember just how I did it, but Podbean was pretty helpful in making it easy to do. Podbean has a free account, but it has a lot of limitations. I quickly outgrew the free account within a month, and ended up with a Gold acct that costs $200/yr. It allows the online storage you need to upload your shows and keep them uploaded and available in your back-library of episodes.
Which recording program are you using? I'm using Audacity, which I've found fairly easy and simple to use (considering that I'm really a novice at this kind of technology).
Any advice I provide, I'd be happy to give, if you want to PM me any other questions, etc.
