THIS WILL BE A MUCH BETTER GAME IF I DON'T HAVE TO MODKILL ANYONE FOR BREAKING THESE RULES
1) This is not a re-skin mafia game with one cop, one doctor, one reverse tracker, etc. In fact, there are no standard roles in this game.
2) Win conditions are also not standardized.
Certain characters may be unable to win together even though they have the same alignment and characters of differing alignments may find a way to win together. Your mason or mafia partner may have a different win condition from you and your win condition may change during the game.
3) Think outside the box.
Some of your powers are open ended or have an obvious use and a much greater but less apparent use.
If I don't say you can't do something, you probably can. Doesn't hurt to ask. I've purposely included loopholes. I'm sure you can find a few more.
4) You may not name claim or name hint on thread. You may not claim to be a specific person in the writeup. You may not post your exact, non paraphrased win condition or ask for anyone else's. You may not give another player your role pm, even if you are masoned or in the same mafia. Anything I pm you must be paraphrased if you want to share it with another player or post it to the thread. You may share things like your character name (off thread only), alignment or standard power names like "roleblocker" or "unlynchable" without paraphrasing.
5) You are responsible for your own night actions. Your partner (mason or mafia) may not submit them for you. You may change your action after consulting with your teammate(s).
6) Most players are servants or masters. Unless I tell you otherwise, you may pm your servant or master during the day and once you have submitted your night action, you may pm them at night. You may change your night action after discussing with your partner. Other out of thread communication is prohibited unless I tell you otherwise.
7) When a master dies, their servant will soon join any master who does not have a servant, creating a new mason pair. If there is no master available, the servant has one day phase and one night phase to uh...create an opening or they will be removed from the game as well. A master may remain in the game without a servant indefinitely.
8) All masters have three "command seals" that allow them to force their servant take an action the master wills instead of the action the servant chooses to take. If a servant and master are in agreement, this can boost the servant, modifying their power, guiding them or even giving them a one shot ability. Certain limitations may apply. Turning a roleblock into a jailkeep is doable. Trying to give your feral black knight that tries to kill anyone and everyone on sight a one shot cop ability will not work. See Rule #3.
9) The Holy Grail War ends when only one servant remains. The game ends when....oh, why spoil the surprise?
Alternative opening writeup: Watch episode 1 of Fate/Zero on Netflix.
Night -2900
"The Family"
A woman with white hair holds her newborn daughter close.
"So small...so very delicate. Look, Kiritsugu, she has your eyes."
Her husband can't bear to look at them. It hurts too much. Finally, he just says what's on his mind. "Iri...I will be the cause of your death."
She smiles, softly. "I know. It's what I was created for." She takes his hand. "You've given me a better life than I could have hoped for. Thanks to you, I'm more than a shell, more than a puppet. You have nothing to be ashamed of."
"I'm going to take away her mother," the just man continues. "How can I hold our little girl? I don't have the right to call myself a father."
"Don't forget your dream, Kiritsugu, to make a world where no one has to cry." The white haired woman gives the just man their child. "That includes little Illya. There will be time to mourn me but for now, stay with us and be happy."
The wind whips outside and the snow falls as the just man tries to forget his responsibilities.
Day -1100
"The Conspiracy"
A serious man stares at the marks on his hand.
"A command seal?"
"The mark identifies you as a participant in the Holy Grail War," the noble man says. "It gives you the power to command a servant, Kirei, a heroic spirit from the past."
"And whoever's spirit can defeat the other six, the grail will grant them their desire. But why me? I'm no mage."
"To help me. You see, the Tohsaka mage clan has always been open and clear about our goal. I seek the root of magic and nothing else. If I win, the world keeps turning. The Einzbern and the Matou clans have forgotten our original reason for seeking the grail. Their wishes are less altruistic than they once were. Of course, the other masters will likely be even worse."
The serious man understands. "So we'll work together. To the others, we'll appear to be enemies."
The noble man nods. "But in reality, we'll be working against the other masters."
Night -360
"The Deal"
A desperate man barges into his father's home.
"Kariya. I thought I told you never to darken my door again."
"I know you adopted the Tohsaka's second daughter!" the desperate man shouts. "Where is she?"
The old man grins. "With the crest worms of course. They'll hurt, yes, but her magic will grow strong and her children will be stronger, still, strong enough to win the next Holy Grail War in sixty years time."
"How can you subject a little girl to that? You want to live forever so badly that you'd do anything for the grail!"
"This is your own fault, you know. If you hadn't discarded the Matou name and your abilities, I'd have a mage to fight for us in this war. Instead, I'll have to use Sakura's children in the next."
The desperate man clenches his teeth. "What if I win this Holy Grail War? Then you wouldn't need Sakura, right?"
The old man scoffs. "Your magic is weak, Kariya, and you haven't trained a day in your life. The crest worms would devour you in a few months. Even if you could hold out for a year, your servant would be weak and you'd likely die in the middle of the war without any other master having to lay a finger on you."
"We can make my servant a Berserker to boost his strength. I'll last long enough to win the grail. After that, I don't care what happens to me."
The old mage cackles. "If this is how you want to die, I accept your proposal. Win me the holy grail and I'll let the girl go."
Day -12
"The Lesson"
The clocktower professor addresses his class. "It is well known that a person's magic ability is determined by blood. The most powerful among us come from long lines of mages because magic refuses to give up her secrets in a single generation. You might wonder why I start today's lesson with something so basic." He holds up a term paper. "'How Wizardry Should be in the Twenty First Century.' I'm disappointed in you, Waver Velvet. Do you honestly think that hard work and exact technique can overcome inherited magic potential?"
The student stands to defend his work. "Sir! I was merely trying to pose a question that the Mage's Association has been hesitant to address."
The clocktower professor scoffs. "Your family has only produced mages for three generations. Compared to the long history of the Mage's Association, your family is a little baby and I'm not interested in a baby's opinion."
The student leaves the class, angry and embarrassed. Determined to undermine the clocktower professor, he investigates rumors that the professor will be participating in a secret mage war in Japan.
"The Holy Grail War. Seven servants: Saber, Archer, Lancer, Rider, Assassin, Caster, and Berserker, assisted by their masters, will compete until only one remains. Titles don't matter, here, only strategy and skill." The student grins. "Then this Holy Grail War sounds like the perfect place for me."
Day 0
"The Summoning"
Around the globe, the student, the just man, the desperate man and the noble man prepare their summoning spells.
"Heed my words," the student says as the symbols he drew on the ground begin to glow. "My will creates your body and your sword creates my destiny. If you heed the Grail's call and obey my will and reasoning, then answer my summoning!"
"I hearby swear," the just man begins, his trench coat fluttering in the unnatural wind, "that I shall be all the good in the world, that I will defeat...all evil in the world!"
The desperate man begins his incantation. "Then let thine eyes be clouded with the fog of turmoil and chaos. Thou, who art trapped in a cage of madness, and I the summoner who holds thy chains!"
The serious man watches as the noble one summons his servant. "Seventh heaven clad in the great words of power, come forth from the circle of bindings, guardian of scales!"
Light erupts around them and each is satisfied, save one, who is much more.
"We've won, Kirei," the noble man proclaims, looking in awe at his servant. "Victory is ours!"
It is now Night 0. If you have received your role pm, you may pm your partner at this time. No night actions will happen on Night 0.

The serious man and his servant, a figure dressed all in black with a white skull mask, stand on a hill overlooking the noble man's mansion.
"You have your orders, Assassin. Go, now, and kill Tokiomi Tohsaka."
"I thought you and Tohsaka were allies."
"You don't need to concern yourself with that."
Assassin obeys. With unparalleled agility and skill, he navigates the maze of traps, barriers and sensors protecting the manor until he reaches the central jewel that provides the grid with mana. A spear skewers Assassin's hand from above, shattering the jewel and pinning him in place.
Ignoring the pain, Assassin looks up at the source of the spear. Standing on the roof is a man in golden armor. Small, glowing portals open behind him.
"Did I give you permission to look at me? Know your place, mongrel."
A sword or spear launches from each portal. They fly faster than the eye can follow, turning the man in black into a human pin cushion.
Jackofhearts2005 is dead. He was Hundred Face Hassan aka Assassin. (Mafia)
Day One begins now.
With 15 players, 8 is majority. You have 48 hours.
Watched the first episode back when I signed up (that was August?! woah time flies), and have promptly forgotten most of it... so I'll probably be catching up on it when I can :P
